A lot of the comoponents in this craft came from my former employer, www.InterPoint.com, who laid off half their staff a few years ago (me was one of those). Little boxes the size of a pack of cards, hand built. Really amazing stuff.
I don't have the time for this, but how about a case mod / coffee machine that you could start the perk from home a few minutes befor you leave for work, via tcp/ip... Intenet appliences?
This is remarkable, and a testament to good software / hardware integration. It is true that I think this money could have been better spent elsewhere in terms of our understanding of the universe, but still, these types of projects and the hardships that come with them teach miles of experience in remote software / hardware problems.
I do seriously wonder if these types of projects will tell us anything more than esoteric wonders of Mars, but from a strictly engineering standpoint, perhaps it's worth it after all.
Tell me, how is it 100% stable if you have to restart it to install things or change settings?
Stability and having to re-boot to install *certain* software packages have nothing to do with each other. Yes, the need to re-boot for certain installs is a weak point for Windows, but that's not the same thing as stability.
It's understandable that many here do not like Windows. But many people also understand that certain applications don't run on Linux, nor have *nix equivalents. We who must use these apps are stuck with Windows. But the need to re-boot is not the same as instability, and indeed many Windows machines have up-times that rival the average Linux server. It's true.
By the way, it it "instability" that after making changes in a Linux configuration, you often have to re-start services?
Funny, because... The man page format *does* suck. But I guess one must say it differently to avoid to "troll" modifier.
Truth is, man pages are almost unreadable, unless you already know the material, they are not designed for the unwashed like you and I. They are meant for the gurus and the Illuminati who already know the material, basically an exercise in masturbation.
If this non-news, standard issue spam, had not included "Patriot Act" FUD, it would have never made Slashdot. People, it's run-of-the-mill spam. Delete it and move on.
Microsoft is going to have a lot of problems "hooking" the Third World on the kind of garbage mafia contracts we have to deal with here in the "First" and "Second" worlds. And, an interesting note, "Third World" countries often look at contracts they have signed with rapists like Bill Gates, and thumb their nose, and move on. For example, several "Third World" countries have told American drug companies to get fucked, they will reproduce patented drugs (like AIDS drugs) if they please.
In the end, I think Linux and Open Source will win out in the "Third World", they have a much better understanding of the dynamics because they have not yet been brainwashed by the "corporate greed = = democracy" mantra
I highly doubt his innocence will remain unchallenged for very long.
But average/.ers still think its hunky dory to go out to the net and download it. Everybody wants something for free, doesn't matter what it is.
We can all go on and on about the evils of big business, how all they want to do is rip us off. But most people also think that the rules that apply to us "little people" such as honesty and integrity should apply to Big Biz as well, no double standards. So why do most here still think it's OK to steal music and movies?
There's the answer [netcraft.com], they should of sent the letter to Sprint instead. Of course they don't want Sprint's legal team on their ass...
Why? CenturyTel owns the netblock my servers are on, but the servers are mine, maintained at the place where I work. CenturyTel only provides the pipe.
I thought Redhat was trying to do this now in the US.
RedHat is no longer an Open Source company in the sense that most people here mean. In time, RedHat will enter into a contract with SCO, and go on their merry way.
Slowly but firmly, Dirk thrusted his gargantuan penis in and out of Laura's tight little pussy. Earlier that evening, Dirk had picked her up hitch-hiking on the interstate, a young little waif ripe for teaching the ways of the world. Laura had never had a man before, though she had played with her pussy and knew what an orgasm was. But her virgin love lips had never before experienced the pleasure that Dirk now gave her. As he built up steam, Dirks thrusting got deeper into Laura's child-like love nest, and she moaned "please, oh God, it feels soooo good!" as Dirks large balls slapped on her flawless ass with every stroke. Dirk was almost at his breaking point as he could feel his load slowly move from his ample love orbs up into his man-root. Laura's eye rolled back as she shuddered in ecstasy with the pleasure she felt in her she-loins. And then Dirk pulled his tool out from her hole, and straddled her tiny breasts, as he jacked his monster anaconda and fired his white creamy load all over her face.
Yup. Book reviews here are in fact adverts. All the Slasshies run to BandN and buy it after reading the GLOWING review here. Has a Slashdot Ed *ever* read a book "he" doesn't like? I don't think so... Especially if it's on sale at BandM....
In practice, it is VERY difficult to prove that they weren't just trying to maximize shareholder value and make the most of their interpretation of the intellectual property they think they own.
This is one of the things that is wrong with American business: The sole (soul?) and primary duty and goal of and corporate board of a publicly traded company, is to increase the value of that company's stock. Many people do not realize this.

For me, the ultimate case mod will always be the server / espresso machine. Got to know what's important, UP TIME!
YES! stability != availability
No, not really a joke, I really do think these documentation projects are not "intuitive", and I really do think that this is a flaw.
No big deal, not a reason for a flame war...

If I invalidated arguments here at Slashdot based on grammar and spelling (there, their, they're), there would not be much left to read. Grow up.

Harp on some other point that makes more sense.
So this is an eletist project. As I thought. This is one of many of the reasons Linux will never win against M$, the "Linux Attitude".

JESUS! Are you with Mensa also?
If you HAVE to ask, your not on the list...
Sounds like living in the Hamptons.
Depends on the by-laws of the organization. But it should be easy to re-form the group without SCO.

Yes but if you follow the link to buy it, OSDN get's a cut. SlashVert.
Thank you, I love you, let's have wild sex.

When I worked for IEG (Internet Entertainment Group), I had to look at porn all day. Doctor, my eyes...
