  1. Bah wrong eclipse! on Eclipse Finally Gets Code Folding · · Score: 0, Offtopic

Was I the only one who read this and thought it was about the lunar eclipse that's just finished?

Couldn't see much cos of cloud cover - I drove miles to get out to a decent location to take photos, for no good reason.

Ah well. Fold your lunar eclipse code @home or something.

  2. Effusively? on Guild Wars Ramps Up To E3, Previewed Effusively · · Score: 0, Offtopic

Yeah there is nothing I love more than coming to an idle X console session on box I haven't touched in a while and watching it grind itself into oblivion because everything has been paged out.

What's wrong with that? The machine shouldn't sit and be ready for every possibility. If you've not logged in in X hours, it shouldn't expect you to suddenly log in. It grinds for a minute or so, and then it's fast again cos it's got what you want to use in RAM. Which is the whole point of swap, stuff you're not using gets paged out.

  4. No flash ads on New WordPerfect Releases Reviewed · · Score: 1

Just an annoying moving bouncing banner ad.

Really must setup JunkBuster again one day.

  5. Slashdotted on Russian Music Site Offering Legal Songs By The MB · · Score: 1

Their site is struggling under the load. Someone setup a mirror with content, ta. :)

Wish Apple would hurry up and let me buy music in the UK. Although they probably don't have the Scorn albums I want, as _nowhere_ does.

  6. Sweet. GNUPlot rocks on Gnuplot 4.0 Released · · Score: 2, Interesting

Just as I've been working for ages getting some groovy graphs drawn that I can't really do in MRTG, they release a new GNUPlot.

    Groovy.

So if he killed the man at 5mph, he should have got a lesser sentence? How does this make sense? If he'd killed him with a cuddly toy, should he just have been let off?

The problem with longer sentences is they often are hard to follow, especially when people forget to use commas.

  8. Re:No Solar For You! on A Step Closer To The Optimum Solar Cell · · Score: 1

The real problem is the way oil is collected. In the North sea and other offshore locations, they pump water in and it forces the oil out. Only problem is, this technique (for whatever reasons) only gets about half the oil out. Then they cap it and move on.

So, solution to world's oil problem: Find a better
way of getting the oil that is there out. There's
    plenty left.

  9. Hmm on Monday Releases Cause Crashes · · Score: 2, Interesting

I check everyday for updates as a matter of course and installed yesterday's security stuff. Luckily
being in the UK I _still_ can't buy music from iTunes, and I don't have an iPod so no problem really.

Annoying that they don't check these things more carefully.

  13. Who? on Transcript of Eben Moglen's Harvard Speech · · Score: 3, Insightful

Another great slashdot article which assumes you know _exactly_ who the person is featured in the article. Can't we have just a little one line in the first paragraph saying what it's all about?

Argh. You made me look underneath my MS natural keyboard for this bar. I don't have one but MY GOD it's filthy underthere. I'm going home and not coming back for 2 days. When I return, it'll be with cleaning products, and plenty of 'em!

You're obviously a muppet then. Who cares what information they store, it's not like they'll come round your house and shout "STOP GOING ON PLANES THEY'RE BAD!" and sell your cat on ebay. Even if they did, it'd be something to do.

    Fool!

  19. Re:What's next? on FCC Still Pushing for Number Portability on Nov. 24 · · Score: 1

Oh don't be a moron. No one cares what their IP address is. That's what the domain name system is for. Also phone numbers aren't connected to the structure of the network the way IP addresses are.

Except they are. They're not called area codes just for the fun of it. People with the same MSB are generally in the same area as you - on phone networks and IP networks.

There are phone routing tables in the same way there are IP routing tables. Porting numbers makes the way that is handled all different.

  20. Woo! Nice one. H&D was great. on Hidden And Dangerous Released For Free · · Score: 1

H&D - one of the hardest games I've ever played. Took months to get to the final mission, which I never completed. Well worth playing multi player co-op, as you need to have snipers covering you as you move.

Looking forward to downloading and playing this again. Yes, it was buggy, but the patches a few years ago seemed to make it playable enough.
