Not really on topic, but Windows is like that about everything. Does the Windows bootloader acknowledge any other OS except a Windows one? Of course not. Booting Linux is simple, but don't plan on seeing it provided on a Windows installation anytime soon.
This isn't about Microsoft's monopoly. It's about how MS uses its large market share in the OS market to push its own software in other markets (ie - the media player market).
We don't want an election without a paper trail...all three owners of the companies who make these machines are donors to the Bush administration. Is this not corruption?
And if Clinton was president odds are they would be donating to Clinton. It may be corruption, but at least it's universal.
Ok, let me get this right. Those people downloading your movies before they are released and then going to watch your movie 1-3 times in the theater are the ones you want tossed in jail?
Looks like the MPAA hasn't learned from the RIAA's mistakes. Instead they are trying to repeat them earlier.
Seeing Linux distros as an option pre-installed into major OEMs systems would be great. Desktop linux has all the tools that the average consumer needs (especially those buying from OEMs). Not to mention that consumers might be more willing to use linux if they didn't have to actually buy Windows first.
They must be getting rid of the entire ending in the shire then. That's a shame because the question of what happens to Sauraman was burning in my head as I was reading the last book, and it really isn't addressed until after the big battle (which looks to be the ending). However, this is most likely for time concerns. Hopefully it will be in the DVD.
Nokia should just get up and walk away from the N-Gage and cut their loses. This thing offers hardly any advantages over GameBoy at twice the cost. The game selection sucks, the screen is in portrait instead of landscape, and there are WAY too many buttons.
Nokia doesn't belong in the handheld game console business. They should just continue making phones that can play games. Not make a game machine that doubles as a phone.
That is actually a pretty good price. This is not geared towards the average home consumer. This is more useful for a small business. To toss down $3000+ on a good network storage system for a business is money well spent.
Nvidia really isn't close to being put out of business. Sure, ATI's $500 card is slightly better than Nvidia's $500 card, but guess what, very few people spend $500 on a video card. Look at the GFFX 5700 Ultra vs Radeon 9600XT if you want to see a more mainstream comparison. Nvidia is very competitive in the mainstream market where are the business is at. Oh, and if you are running anything other than Windows you might want to go grab a Nvidia card because their drivers are still better than anything ATI has for Linux/BSD.
If I were to buy a mp3 player, it would be used mainly for running and exercise. All this article points out is that if you're looking for a mp3 player to exercise with, you are better off with one without any moving parts. And unless your name is Forrest Gump, you're not going to listen to 15GB worth of songs in one run.
The statistics presented in newspapers are almost always flawed if not totally inaccurate (as this one seems to be). Good luck trying to find out how the NPD conducted their poll. Odds are they took the 11% decline in file sharing and multiplied it by the number of users. I wonder if NPD even knows what "deleted" means.
So let's say MS decided that their office products would delete the OpenOffice system files that allows OO to interact with the MS proprietary file formats. It wouldn't disable OpenOffice, just stop it from opening and saving in.doc,.xls, etc. Could you imagine the uproar that would happen on/.? I love how Apple does this and it isn't all that bad.
Ok, I understand MM is a piece of crap and its store is no better but no piece of software should delete anything something else needs, period. When MS does this they are flamed to all hell. Apple does this and it is ok because they tell you they are going to do it? I just don't see the logic there.
Why all the criticism for anyone wanting to use something other than notepad or vi? WYSIWYG webpage creators are still very useful even if you code your own html.
Looking at this weeks Best Buy ad you can find the Matrix Reloaded movie on DVD for $14.99, or you can buy the soundtrack for $11.99. Anyone but me see a problem with this? The music, which probably costs less than 10% the cost of the movie to actually make, costs just $3 less in the stores. Also, most of the songs on the soundtrack were already released on the respective band's album.

I knew it wouldn't take long for someone to blame Apple's fuck up on MS.
Yea, and according to the EU it is also illegal.
RTFA.

So what exactly isn't an OS supposed to do? This argument could be made for ANYTHING MS wanted to put into Windows.
Internet browsing, function.
Media player, function.
Word & speadsheet processing, function.
Image editing, function.
Developer IDE, function.
Cost of OS, $400.

So what exactly does "some compatibility problems" mean? Sounds like a nice way of saying it isn't going to work at all.
I wonder if this will bring along with it another tax on everyone's phone bill. This sounds similiar to the Local Number Portability charge.

I never said it stopped OpenOffice from working. I only said that it stopped it from accessing propietary formats.
