I used to leave my machines on 24/7, but found that this accounted for the majority of my electric bill, not to mention sometimes needing AC, and having the disks wear out earlier. Just a thought.
Actually, he could hear through bone conduction. He sat at a piano with a long stick. One end was placed against the harp and he held the other end between his teeth. Still, great music though.
Stops viruses and worms. Palladium won't run unauthorized programs, so viruses can't trash protected parts of your system.
Cans spam. Eventually, commercial pitches for recycled printer cartridges and barnyard porn can be stopped before they hit your inbox-while unsolicited mail that you might want to see can arrive if it has credentials that meet your standards.
Those who would give up an open computing environment in order to be free from Spam and Viruses deserve neither. Besides, Microsoft has never been able to accomplish these with software measures, what makes them think hardware measures will do the trick. Or maybe they just won't allow any non MS software to run. How long before someone cracks it, or users complain that they can't run XYZ.
Or you could create Word documents that could be read only in the next week.
Now how does this differ from the current system. Seriously, I have long term issues with the word format being a write-only black hole of information. 100 years from now, ascii documents should be easily read, but will the same be true for word documents?
Hear hear. I think they are barking up the wrong tree. The bigger problem I'd see for foreigners is that none of our coins have a value in arabic numerals. Some don't even spell out the value.
Repeat N times:
Rewind the tape
Record a message onto the tape
Now let's be pessimistic and assume that each message could only be recovered with 1 bit of information. After N loops, you have N bits. As N approaches infinity, the information approaches infinity too. Now in practice, the tape would surely break. But the contridiction shows that it should be possible _in theory_ to completely erase a length of tape.
You never completely erase a tape. You think you do, but you really don't.
Bull puckey. If you record over a tape enough times you will erase the original information. Otherwise, a length of tape could hole an infinite amount of information.
OTOH, just because you 'can' erase a tape, doesn't mean that it was done in this case.
If there are is really a lot of demand for titles on VHS, people will just go to another store. Conversely, if ther ewere a lot more demand, CC wouldn't be discontinuing the format.
D'oh, I meant elipse is the set of points where the sum of the distances are equal. Bonus points for the first person who can tell me what the rule for the parabola is...
I admit drawing elipses with a string and thumb tacks is important, but I remember when I learned about things like defining a parabola as the set of points where the sum of the distances to the foci are equal to a constant. The first thing I thought was "What do you get if you try to make the product equal to a constant instead?" Don't think you can do this with a string, but a graphing calculator was able to do it.
I think you have the right attitude. If the code is released for all to use, it could be the basis for a commercial product and a GPL product. If the GPL product has enough users, the commercial product will have to maintain compatibility. If the company making the commercial version falls on hard times, people can switch to the GPL version.
Go out and buy one of these CDs. Take it into a computer store. Try it out in a computer.
When it gets stuck, try to get help from the sales people, but try to do it with a straight face, OK? Now you will probably have to leave it there, but make sure you talk to the highest up manager before you do.
Research on the internet how to eject the disk and come back the next day to get it.
This might work best if you bought the CD in the same store.

Your duty is clear. To build and maintain those robots.
A rock/paper/scissors benchmark.
And thank you for letting everyone know you didn't get the joke.
This is now uncostitutional as well.

I've got someone on the line who wants to talk to you. Just come over here and make a tight seal around my lips. What are you making that face for?

I rented a movie once that had a big macrovision splash screen at the start. It said "Macrovision quality protection" What a joke.
Perhaps Slashdot should interview the president of Wal-Mart.

If this were the case, wouldn't the Earth's gravity cause the semiconductors to emit microwaves?
And you can get a free newspaper by holding the door open after someone else buys one.
My question would be does it keep you from recording something else in that time slot?
Of course not, because then they wouldn't be able to control all content.

Better than having rectal patterns on the card
