the main problem with the final fantasy series in my opinion is all the crappy minigames they make you drag yourself through to get somewhere.

I don't *want* to play blitzball.
I don't *want* to hit 7 buttons in a specific order in 2 seconds to unlock a one-use powerful strike that i've already earned by taking several beatings.
I don't *want* to be playing cards.
    etc.

I *want* to play FF7 again on newer hardware with better graphics, because its the only one I've played that ever did anything right.

your example is also not good for the pocketbook of the company running the game.

i played eq2 for a long time, and slowly it is becoming eq1, since players are dropping like dying flies (me included). they have to make the game funner, rather than designed perfectly. a game with perfect balance and design is very different from a fun game.

i could be all wrong though. who really cares, they're games. the challenges of role-playing my own life are much more fun and rewarding. but the graphics aren't as good.

  9. sounds like an untapped market to me on A Portrait of the UK Game Pirate · · Score: 4, Insightful

whenever you see people breaking the law with intellectual property, you are looking into the eyes of an untapped market. Apple saw this and created iTunes.

A surprisingly large portion of illegal downloaders download songs, movies, and games because they want to download them, not because they want to steal. So sell it to them electronically.

Problem: Teen blokes in the UK download US games before their native release?
Solution: Release the US version in the UK and the US on the same day. Make it available for download in the UK and take $10 off the price because the words are all spelled wrong and the voice overs have that horrible American accent. Also, you don't need to package the box, press the CDs, and ship it to the UK. Give the online purchaser in the UK the same price you give to the chain stores here in the US.

I think you'd see the percentage of illegal downloads go down.

forgive me, some will think this is "sexist" but deep down you all know its true:

    Men hunt, women gather.

Give women the opportunity to browse and pick the best [whatever] and they'll do it better than any man. A DVR does this. You can schedule things in advance, wait for them to come in, and pick the fruit when its ripened.

channel surfing without a DVR is similar to hunting. you browse, you pick a target, and you strike at it by putting the remote down. decision made, decision executed, finality. man stuff.
