Yes but software is a religion here, so everyone is holding this up as a 'we won' as opposed to what it really is, just someone choosing to use something.
Just because someone, or a lot of someone's can not control themselves while doing a perfectly normal activity does not mean that activity to blame. EQ users that retreat entirely into the game have no one but themselves to blame because its them who can not exercise any self control or common sense. Do you blame sports when someone ignores their schoolwork and their grades suffer when some high school player gets too involved in the game or is the the fault of the student? I want the right answer, not the knee-jerk 'Its everyone else's fault' answer.
Now that I'd like to see. Lets have an Ask Slashdot for Larry with the question, "Why should I choose Oracle over PostgreSQL?" Not that I think that he has no idea about his own product, but that he knows little about all the competing ones. Without knowing that, there would be no way of giving any reasons to choose one over the other, which is probably the same reason there were no real reasons to choose Ingres over something else.
Sounds like crap, the movie and the FTP client. Now if you named it "FTP From Here to Eternity," you might be on to something. I suppose the Princess diaries might fit in better with a Blog site though.
Only an American living in the western country with the highest crime rate could possible believe that violence deters violence. Having a gun and presenting it to an attacker does nothing. It does not prevent that person from injuring or killing you, it does not deter a home invasion, it does not make a unsafe neighborhood any safer. Violence and the promise of Violence only creates more violence. Apparently the only way some people will learn is when they're all dead.
Its probably one of the reasons in part why Sun instead of say Red Hat or SuSE would have got the contract. Once the decision to go with Linux was made you look at who will provide the support, and being the Health Service and the 'tactical deployment' description, I would assume that would mean a 24/7 on-site support ability. By this point it comes down pretty much to IBM or Sun. There's a good chance the NHS has a prior relationship with one of them, if not both, so the past experience with that coupled with what the decision makers knew of their reputation with the ultimate leveler, the cost, is what will draw the final decision. While IBM is no slouch when it comes to security, they are moving an unaltered Red Hat or SuSE, both of which have frequent security bulletins, while Sun also has a decent record of security, and modifies Linux to create the JDS, which at the very least could give the impression that it might be the more secure of the two.
None of it would have happened without users choosing Microsoft. Its the way things went so stop whining about it. These lawsuits are not about a common good or slaying a dragon that is sucking the life out of an industry, they are about lawyers making money. On top of that the majority of slashdoters then try to make it look like some David and Goliath, right vs wrong battle which only exists in their minds.
This is a crash not an exploit, the OpenBSD team uses a very precise definition for that claim. They also seem to handle a crash that does not lead to an exploit in a more crass and off hand manner, but thats another story.
Zterm http://homepage.mac.com/dalverson/zterm/ personally I still use v0.9 on my SE as a serial console, but it will handle Zmodem and PC ANSI BBS, and the latest versions are of course OS X native.
Usefull like displaying windows? Like you said, its just a window manager, so thats all it does. Exactly what do you expect that it should do for you to call it usefull?
That actually isn't what I was getting at, personally I feel that an incomprehensable manual is a failure on the part of the writer. However, what I was refering to is the apperent 'alergy' to manuals that most users display. They refuse to take any responsibility themselves to learn anything and if it doesn't work they blame everyone but themselves. Before you start whining about useability and how you shouldn't have to learn anything to use a computer, do you realize how complex a computer system is? Your microwave came with a manual to set the clock, I bet you read it, so did your TV, VCR and DVD player. Those are childs toys compared to the beige box on your desk, but apperently everyone believes they should be easier to use.
I am really missing konquerors spell check right now.
It seems more like an extension to SharePoint. Of course I may be completely wrong, I've only ever seen SharePoint demo's. On the other hand, it also seems that they are going to be moving Office to a Web Service instead of a product and you'll pay a monthly fee to use it.
I'm not going to put it off anymore, I have an amazing idea and I'm off to patent it. Its a web based front end for system updates, see, it scans the system to determine what updates are needed, then only presents them to the user in such a way that they can see what updates are critical and which are just general enhancements. I'm going to make a mint.
Never? Microsoft has long since replaced the BSD TCP/IP stack with their own.

You do it how often now?
Depends on how motivated people are.

I'm bald you insensitive clod.
First time cliche user.
No seriously, what does it mean?
I have a dead hdd that I keep meaning to turn into a desk clock.

I think you'll find that if it did blow up after 3 days someone would have cared.

I don't think users know how to read manuals.
Your joking right?

Of course the military has no regard for human life.Their entire purpose is to kill or be killed.
So its just another Xbox?

Seems very forgettable to me.
