There are enough people here pissed off about this, if everyone on slashdot would write these comments to their representatives instead of just preaching to the choir here then maybe this could really be stopped. I've already done as much myself.

You're thinking of LAMR, linux/apache/mysql/ruby. pronounced lamer.
Perhaps the writer's argument would've been more successful if applied to the current blackberry patent infringement mess. Goverment becomes dependent on a technology that infringes the rights of another, so sovereignty trumps the IP owner rights as determined by the courts.
by not buying coffee, they can save up their nickels for more batteries.
I could be called a squatter, but I buy at least 1 drink and 1 meal type thing every day I sit there with my three batteries and pack of smokes. Of course, this is a sidewalk in santa cruz so everyone interacts wether you want to or not.
is that they are not supposed to feed rumour mills, they are supposed to report facts that are in the public interest. Trade secrets about a software release are not in the public interest unless the software is malicious. Send those bloggers to their blogging graves if you ask me. It appears that not even these so-called newspapers read the judge's opinion, that this is separate from scandalous fraud cases like worldcom and enron.
no, they charge more than.05 to bill a cc. The cost of doing the billing is much much much less. The visa-mastercard cartel greatly inflates the cost of doing business on a global scale to the detriment of both business and consumer.
thank you, I was about to bring that up. The bit about the well regulated militia is crucial and oft forgotten. I liken it to the classic old west - you come into town, turn in your gun. No need to be armed when you're going to a brothel or a bar, but good to have the guns around in case the town needs defending. One man with a gun cannot do that, but a militia of all the armed men in the town very well can.

@soul = map {&wash(\@soul,$_)} (keys %sunrise,@earth); }
and while not a poem in the strict sense, you do get a good rythm going when reading this next one. It's inspired by watching someone fail miserably at parallel parking.

I won the regional science fair in 7th grade with my "Holographic Image Quality as a Function of Subject Material." Used stacks of sofa cushions in the basement as a board, and luckily my father worked for a company that supplied the light rail/setup equipment, laser, and silvered mirrors.

I dropped out of EE and started hacking perl for $90k
at least it'd be above sea level!
Funny that I just finished reading that book by Heinlein, in which travel is based on the premise of 6 dimensions and 6^6^6 universes.

well, that's probably because java sucks. like emacs. let's see, what other holy wars can I fight in one post...
open source it for what? so a few 10 year olds with l337 h4x0r sk1llz can upload some buggy code and ruin a prefectly good 30 year old program?
sounds about right for government work
does your shirt happen to say "genius at work" ?

death to emacs, viva vi!!!
think that's bad? Back in my day, we didn't have pails, we had to carry it in cupped hands.
You are accused of heresey on three counts: ....FOUR counts!
heresy by words!
heresy by deeds!
heresy by thought!
heresy by apple!
so for pluto,
5913 km / 0.3 km/s = 19710 s
19710s * 30mbit/s = 591.3 TB in transit. How about a raid of laser planet storage devices? And then give them full boxen and make a beowulf....sorry I had to add that last bit.
