  1. AOL's fault ? on Dealing with False AOL Spam Reports? · · Score: 1

Shouldn't AOL be the people policing the spam ? The last people qualified to distinguish between a piece of spam from a normal piece of email are AOL users. For god's sake, how do you think the MyDoom virus got spread ? people not knowing how to properly identify illegitmate email. You would think AOL be able to identify the fact that their users are at the bottom of the food chain when it comes to online aptitude.

It would obviously benefit the open source community and give Sun their respect, but Sun is out to make profit, and even in the long run I don't see how they can make more money. Besides, Sun knows java best, granted, open source developers could make improvements but people are going to use java regardless. Only until a new bit-code type programming language with the cross-platforming capabilities of java and a substantial amount of users, will Sun consider releasing the source. Sun is out to make money, not win friends, and I don't think they will loose many customers because they aren't releasing their source.

Thats what most "public" documentaries are like. And when I say "public", I mean documentaries that are aired on suchs networks as Discovery and PBS. These documentaries aren't written for phd laureates, they are written by in large for the general public. The majority of the documentaries on Discovery for instance, use lots of visuals, usually in the form of CG, and very little content. Take for instance Discoveries "Walking with Dinosaurs" special. They used a lot of story telling, CG, but not much in the name of biological/environmental facts. Of course it wasn't based on a book but I think it proves a point. Now I haven't seen this particular documentory or even read the book for that matter (maybe I shouldn't be writing anything about it), but it's not suprising that they don't go into very much depth. Also from my experience, any television programming or movie adapted from a book looses a large chunk of content anyways, strictly based on that fact the time allotted for the documentory couldn't properly cover all the material in the book. And yes, the masses are stupid, not that I'm much further ahead.

Their countrie's internet infrastructre can't be nearly as mature as the United States, therefore I'm sure it would be a lot cheaper/less complicated to implement the protocol. The United States would also have to contend with the the private sectors wants/needs which rely on this infrastructure heavily. I dont think that would be as prevalent in these Asian countries.

I would definitly have to agree. One other thing that may help, is introducing the kid to video games. This may sound like a counterproductive idea at first, but video games give children an outlet for social interaction, and is something almost all kids at that age are involved with. Also, Lego is a great social/constructive activity for young children. From the experience i'v had at public school (assuming that this kid is in grade k -8), karate usually gives the child a false sense of power. I remember kids that took karate got picked on even more because they were still pussy's but they thought they were tough.
