They know that Facebook is on the down hill of popularity and want their info gone before it is purchased by a big American corporation like Kraft, Ford, or the Democratic Party.
The problem isn't that the phone has a death grip, it's having a death grip that is easy to do. I'm sure my HTC phone has a death grip, but I've never found it.
They say it is an inside job because they only targeted the ones with SIM cards. So they didn't take the SIM cards out of the ones without SIM cards? Does that make sense? Are the traffic lights different between the ones with and without SIM cards? If so, once you knew which ones were different, it would be easy.
It doesn't even make sense. They took 400 and ran up huge bills. Stealing 400 SIM cards from 400 traffic lights must take time to do, and if the lights stopped working at that point, why didn't they immediately check to make sure they weren't being used? If the lights don't stop working when the SIM cards are removed, why are they "out of action" now? It's not like you can take a SIM card, run up thousands a dollar bill on it in a few minutes. Did they take them, put them all in phones and start downloading the entire wikipedia database or something? While outside of the country. Roaming.
Maybe I'm behind the time with this type of technology, but is there a way that this could be used to access web pages like wikileaks to prevent servers from being shut down or blocked by dns?
How could the US do that? They are also trying to stop information themselves.
Oh wait, the US is more than 5 people, and we don't all have one brain. I can't believe that people are surprised that there are people in a country with a population over 300 million, that don't all think the same way! I'm sure everybody in other countries all go to schools where they are taught what to think, but brains are a very common trait amongst Americans. Even if they use them to join a group and all act the same, some people think on their own and can have ideas that weren't implanted by media.
But wait, this is Slashdot, why am I even posting here? I hate this place since I see more anti-American stories on here than anything technology related... where are the good stories? Some good old M$ bashing, or Linux fanboy stuff? That is what I signed up for.
WTF are you talking about? You didn't post anonymously, so obviously you aren't too scared of posting. Oh wait, some people in the united states don't like confidential information being leaked, well... what the hell are they thinking. If you go to web sites for truly free countries like Canada and Australia they post their secrets right on the front page.
I'm a typical Slashdot reader:
America's government can't expect to have privacy, they are a government.
The government has no rights watching me, I have rights to privacy.
Also, we are not trying to change you or your country. Nobody here wants to take over the world, or if there are people like that, there are everywhere, no more majority of them here than anywhere else in the world. Fuck, I hate Slashdot, if we had the true censorship you seem to think we do, why do I have to read stories about how everybody hates me so much? Censor this shit, please?
Come on, how am I supposed to impress my neighbors with a small aircraft carrier like that? I heard they were getting an 1,100 foot supercarrier for Christmas this year.
GUI wrapper is a BFD to almost everybody, if you don't care, don't act like it isn't a big deal to others.
My complaint with Opera. It's different, and not in a good way. Firefox improved over IE. Chrome improved over Firefox. Opera may have improved over IE as well, but it sure doesn't improve over Chrome in my opinion. If I had gone the other route I may like it, but it's too late.
I read the title as US Robotics and thought it had to do with the modem company winning a lawsuit in Australia. I guess I've been reading slashdot too much lately that I always assume somebody is being sued in the stories.
I did not and will not read a story on slashdot because I am not new here... however: I have purchased unlocked phones from Tiger Direct and Newegg and think they are great. However, I can't use my unlocked phone on anything but AT&T or T-Mobile, so is it really much better than having a locked phone?
Did the slashdot editor think it would be fun to have another Anti-American flamewar or something? I'm from the US, I don't object to the kilogram. There have been no protests, no elections asking to ban, or commercials asking for people to write to their congress to get rid of the kilogram.
The story should read as follows: Physicists believe the physical kilogram located in a vault in France may not have the same mass as it once did before and the NIST in the United States agree that it should be measured with differently.
I want to suggest a future article: US Objects to calling Soccer Football. US Objects to the word litre. US Objects to using GMT as the universal time, wishes to change to EST.
Those will get the Anti-American crowd going. It's a surprisingly large group on a web site hosted in the United States, and founded by an American.
How about this: US Objects to Anti-American posts on American web sites? What is the big European nerd news site, I want to go complain about people I don't know anything about!

Because the part stated as being 'from the article' was written by someone else, the part outside was typed by the submitter.
I'm guessing they also blocked internet on iPhones and Androids. Oh wait, it's the same internet, duh. No offense, but why is that informative?

It's Firefox, not Fireredpanda... but maybe they should change their name, it's stayed the same for a long time now.
Do the pandas sneeze? If so, I'll watch them 24x7!

Is this Slashdot: Special Victims Unit now?
What the hell is ICE?

Why have 1000 cores when you can have 1 MILLION CORES, (all running applications that can barely take advantage of 1 or 2)

I hope the film @ 11 is not in flash format, my battery is about to die!
If it was open source it could have been fixed last month when the problem occurred... correct?
Having stuff worth paying for is a way better way of making money than ads.

If she is from the future, why is she in black and white? She should be in color.
My idea, she is a crazy person. Yes, there were crazy people... prior to cell phones causing brain damage. :D
You made me do it!

They should build a really big wall of stones surrounding it, a stonehengehenge perhaps? Then people wouldn't be able to take pictures without paying.
Microsoft should fork it and include exchange capabilities. Damn them!
