He forced the oligarchs to pay taxes. It was that simple. Those who didn't pay taxes were sent directly to jail and their assets seized by the state, broken up, and sold at auction.
You know what happens when companies start selling golden RAZRs and shit like that. In other news: Apple is now the 3rd largest smartphone vendor, behind not only Samsung but Huawei as well.
Here's one of the so called failures of Communism in the Soviet Union's planned economy:

Citing some of the thousands of letters reportedly received on the subject, Pravda said farmers were complaining that in some areas bread was being fed to cattle and hogs. A writer from Kursk said: ''I often see people walking out of a bread store with 15 to 20 loaves. Clearly it's not for them - it's to feed their pigs, chickens and ducks.'' Less Bread, More Meat
If the farmers get feed grain cheaply, they can produce cheaper meat and poultry - and thus lower consumer dependence on bread. That, in turn, would free more grain for feed and help achieve the Government's longstanding goal of balancing consumption of meat and bread.
Now see this news item a couple years back: https://www.reuters.com/articl... KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Reuters) - Mike Yoder’s herd of dairy cattle are living the sweet life. With corn feed scarcer and costlier than ever, Yoder increasingly is looking for cheaper alternatives — and this summer he found a good deal on ice cream sprinkles.
“It’s a pretty colorful load,” said Yoder, who operates about 450 dairy cows on his farm in northern Indiana. “Anything that keeps the feed costs down.”
As the worst drought in half a century has ravaged this year’s U.S. corn crop and driven corn prices sky high, the market for alternative feed rations for beef and dairy cows has also skyrocketed. Brokers are gathering up discarded food products and putting them out for the highest bid to feed lot operators and dairy producers, who are scrambling to keep their animals fed.
In the mix are cookies, gummy worms, marshmallows, fruit loops, orange peels, even dried cranberries. Cattlemen are feeding virtually anything they can get their hands on that will replace the starchy sugar content traditionally delivered to the animals through corn.
“Everybody is looking for alternatives,” said Ki Fanning, a nutritionist with Great Plains Livestock Consulting in Eagle, Nebraska. “It’s kind of funny the first time you see it but it works well. The big advantage to that is you can turn something you normally throw away into something that can be consumed. The amazing thing about a ruminant, a cow, you can take those type of ingredients and turn them into food.”
Yet most of the jobs ARE in Silicon Valley instead of the Midwest. And regardless of where you work, you get paid just enough to live there. Even if you are doing the same work. Which simply shows that it's a case or arbitrage like he said.
You know why most of the jobs are in Silicon Valley? Because that's where the CEOs live and they want to micro-manage their employees face to face.
The problem is that the main driver cost in NG power plants is the gas itself and the price is highly variable. It may be cheap now, but it doesn't mean it will be cheap in a decade, there's also seasonal variations (e.g. in the winter time it becomes a lot more expensive). It is also often tied to the price of oil in some cases. Russia usually does this.
It's not superior when I have to reboot the computer after every single dingy update. I do an X update and I need to reboot. This did not use to be the case.
Actually the man himself said the stock price was too high. So at least he's lucid enough for that. What he doesn't appreciate is the turbulence of the stock market with his stock.
The previous Tesla CEO and COO were fired by Elon. He originally was just the President at Tesla. So he caused this overwork problem to himself. Arguably the problem with both of them is that they had an Electrical Engineer background when he probably need more people with Mechanical Engineering backgrounds in the leadership positions. This meant they had issues reaching design and production targets. Those are not exactly easy to find in California though I guess. Lately they have had issues with mass production. So he probably needs someone with mass production experience in a vertically integrated company. His company more or less operates like Toyota. So someone with credentials in the traditional US automotive industry (especially someone that's really veteran at it) which have mostly changed to outsourcing production models will likely be the wrong choice.
Also the problem with Tesla is that it's like 3-4 companies into one. It's basically a conglomerate. Were it not Elon the CEO it would likely use a different management structure. There's the battery operation, which manufactures and sells batteries for cars, utilities, and homes. There's the solar panel division. Then there's the car division which is how they started the company. Last but not least there's the Tesla supercharger network operation. Although there are relations between these operations they should probably be managed separately.
He basically needs a COO for Tesla much like he had one at SpaceX (Gwynne Shotwell). Someone with industry experience who can handle most of the day to day affairs of the business.
Yeah. Apple will specify the machinery the factory will use. But the machine tools are typically manufactured in Japan. Also it's a question of time until that changes. Much like what happened with Apple's desktop PC line.
They got a license to produce AMD X86 CPUs for China only sales:

That future is now.

If people were getting free from labor from automation then working hours should be decreasing and yet the opposite seems to be happening.
Before phones there was the telegraph, and before that messengers on horseback or on foot.

They probably still lose less money than Uber.

Tell that to Goebel's wife.

Well Gwynne has since been promoted to President as well I think although she still retains the COO position.

It isn't 100% new either. CO2 scrubbers have been used in submarines for a long time. They are also used in rebreathers.
