The fact that English is essentially a mash-up, a hybrid language, should exclude it from accentism. Even those from the United Kingdom aren't really native English, because English itself is a rehash of old frankish, french, and god-knows-what. Those of you who speak a "real" old-world language know what I mean... English is just cobbled together. It is dominant, but that does not make it an authority.
What fact? English is neither a creole nor a pidgin. It is a Germanic language at its core syntactically, phonologically, and in its vocabulary. It still shares much in common with its past forms (including Old English a.k.a. Anglo-Saxon) and other Germanic languages (Dutch, German, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, etc). Yes, it has many words of French and Latin origin but so do most "real Old World" languages. It has also acquired quite a few other words from various languages as appropriate for any language with an imperial legacy and diverse peoples taking it up. You sound awfully upset about English's high standing in the world. A rather small thing to get so worked up over.
Now, I know most of you are thinking "why can't every day be 'Draw Mohammed Day'?", but just KNOCK IT OFF. This is why Pakistan can't have nice things.
Not only that, why choose SLC? It's not like it is a 186,440 person city sitting out on its own in the countryside. It is part of a contiguous metro area with a population of 1,124,197 and also a contiguous urban area with a population of 2,238,697 (wiki). I was born and raised here and I couldn't tell you with much accuracy where SLC proper starts and ends.
I'm sure there is a ~200,000 resident US city sitting nicely out on its own.. but probably few have ever heard of it. The state capital of Utah on the other hand? Far more sensational.
Actually it was found that the canaries dying caused quite a distraction for the miners getting their work done. So we had the canaries removed. You're welcome.
Autocomplete, the ability to have every manual at your fingertips in context, visual brace matching, code generating tools, syntax highlighting, trouble tracking, refactoring tools, unit test tools, all these things are knowledge amplifying tools.
You are assuming that these things do not exist for terminal based editors. They do. It is all about customizing your environment. No, I wouldn't want to use plain old vi for anything other than a quick job, but I get all those things you listed with vim (for example) and I get what vi offers and I don't have to wait for any three rings circuses whatsoever.;)
In the end each programmer will use the tools to which he is most accustomed and maybe you actually like using a mouse, but perhaps now you at least understand those who do not prefer IDEs at least a little bit. It has nothing to do with calling anyone else a "wimp". That doesn't help you meet deadlines.
Fact: The shell is infinitely more powerful than anything anyone could cram into a right click accessible context menu.
Y'know, I was going to write something snarky about this, but I trust I've said enough for you to understand why I don't agree that this is actually a "fact".
Show me an IDE with a Turing complete context menu and I'll readily concede that point.:)
Maybe because you have never tried working without an IDE?
Fact: The shell is infinitely more powerful than anything anyone could cram into a right click accessible context menu.
It artificially limits them from a lot of valuable tools that could help them learn. I think people should use every tool at their disposal if it aids them in their understanding.
You could say the same thing about artificial limitations when only using an IDE. And hey, you could even use a shell and an IDE. Nothing wrong with that. Though I think most people who end up using the shell a lot soon realize that they don't need everything else that comes along with an IDE when they are only using it to edit text.
Finally, have you ever had to leave your paid off land and quit your job because of a nuclear accident, and remained a completely polite person in the process?
TFA gives little indication about what kind of buildings and infrastructure they are actually going to build, but you aren't going to build actual houses for 35K people with a mere $200 million. So, I think some of the things that you listed are likely to be actually built. Perhaps with a few "real" houses interspersed.
I've had the same problem with previous bundles. This is actually the first one where I don't own any of the games. But it is "pay what you want", so I figure a reasonable amount based on the games that I don't already own. A lot better than rebuying games in a Steam sale.;)
Maybe it is not such a bad thing calling a meter a yard (assuming you are actually using the length of a meter). Perhaps people are more attached to the names themselves than the actual unit and could be a way to get the last hold outs fully on metric. Reminds me of the Norwegian 'mile' which is 10 Km which is no doubt not not its historical distance.
Of course, this can lead to some confusion: "Do you mean imperial yards or metric yards?" But this is already the case for tons.
RP is the dog's bollocks!

Those heartless board member bastards. How will the poor man ever feed his family on this measly sum?!

Between a $1K house that won't stand up to future disasters and a $100K house that won't stand up to future disasters, which would you pick?
Well is there anything we can do? Like lie down and put a paper bag over our head or something?

Seconded. You don't even need to be actually running Plan 9 either: http://swtch.com/plan9port/

Next offensive: All IDEs are horrible. Just use vim.
Your move.
Here's some more FUD, BS and lies from other people who, like Linus Torvalds, don't know what they are talking about and have zero credibility.

Hmm...
At least he plays nicely with (aka U+0020).

Ugh, don't get me started on that digital turd. Just about anyone could half-ass something better.
Just remember when you are programming C++: only your friends can touch your privates.
Clearly your sense of humor does not fully implement the standard.
Finally a place to store all my zeros!
Some of us wonder why no one can get their head out of their ass and statically link. That applies to all major OSes.

There is a patch for the brain in the works.
