It doesn't matter weather it boosts sales or not. It is still stealing. If the combind recording industries choose to hamper sales it is their choice not yours.
It is like saying in an area where allot of TV's are stolen, there is also demand for TV's, so it should be encouraged. It's absurd.
Besides, the article links exposure to piracy not record sales to piracy, so the RIAA's arguments still hold. And I also don't think it's unreasonable to assume that the music over there is just improving. Stop trying to twist stories to justify your own greed.
Lindows is a sell out in my opinion, not as such of Linux but of the easy going nature of the people in the open source movement. Just check the prices of that stuff. Besides, let's not kid ourselves. Lindows didn't choose there name because it's a Linux based operating system, and because wINDOWS are a fundamental part of any GUI. They chose the name to get some extra publicity off the windows back.
I'm not saying I condone MS's behavior at all, but it would be far more unreasonable if it was a glass company, as opposed to something in direct competition to Windows.
"In other news, Ford has recently demanded that Microsoft stop using the name "Explorer", as in Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer. Ford cites the 1990 introduction of the Explorer as evidence that they had the name first.
The many reliability and safety problems with Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer cause confusion among Ford Explorer customers who are themselves accustomed to these traits, a Ford spokesman said Friday."
I'm woundering if any one sends these posts to MS to show them how ridiculous they are being. Or also some of the SCO related topics for that mater aswell.
Cube kinda sucked, but Pi would be up there with the best movies ever made. After that movie the producer (or maybe it was the director~"~) did Requiem for a Dream, and from there he got the new Batman movie coming out. You can just see the budgets climbing exponentially.
Doesn't that make Pi less geeky though:)...
I can't imagine anyone not appreciating Pi as a movie, even if it isn't somthing they'd choose themselves.
Also did anyone notice where LOTR the Two Towers got its theme music from.
I think there would be allot to be learned from experimenting with cloning. We could even put it to good use with cloning organs and skin cells.
But I think this kind of thing should have the most stringent monitoring available, this is also the kind of thing which could do allot of damage to this world.
Imagine the repercussions if a world leader were cloned. Or worse yet what if we could speed up the process and steal other people's identities.
Because if a 15 year old committed murder we would just ignore it.
Who cares is the person is a teenager; they have broken a law and should be held responsible. The lesser settlement price is comparable to juvenile detention centers.
The big differance with the X1 is the noise level; at 37dB I find the X1 compleatly unacceptable. Also the native resolution on the X1 is 4:3 and if I remember correctly, it's a 4 segmant color wheel, with poor color contrast. This is improved in movie mode because they turn off the white gegment on the color wheel, but this knocks off over a third of the lumes.
I hate how all modern movies have to have a love interest. It really ruins some story lines. Think of every movie that has come out in the last year, it may have nothing to do with love at all, but in the end the leading man/woman hooks up with a woman/man, and that is supposed to imply a happy ending. It shits me because it's compleatly off topic and destroys a movies credibility.............I'll stop ranting now.
You surly can't justify this form of attack, there is no moral basis what so ever. It's always easier to exploit software than to make it bug free. I'm sure the admins a many times more skilled than the script kiddies already.
I hope you wern't being serious, let me phrase the question back to you; how many of these experiments have any effect on humanity at all?
NASA just keep the usless time wasting experiments going to justify keeping them selves in the job. They need to attempt somthing new, plan it out and do it, not sit in space thinking of experiments that 'might' one day be usful if they ever do attempt a real mission.
Seriously how is knowing how ants react and breed in space ever going "to assist humanity?"
GNU/Linux isn't free it's open source, there is a big differance. Sure some distros and software are free, but that has nothing to do with the nature of GNU/Linux. From my understanding GNU/Linux was founded up on the idea that we can all help eachother improve, and has found a way to enforce it.
"``Free software'' is a matter of liberty, not price. To understand the concept, you should think of ``free'' as in ``free speech,'' not as in ``free beer.''" -GNU.org
It's good to see someone getting into the space program. I don't consider what is being up there now as progress at all, there is no aim, there just up there to show that they can. I guess we will also know definatively if the US ever made it to the moon as well.
Personally I just want to see some more real space exploration progress. I still belive there is bound to be intelligent life out there; I just hope we make contact in my life time.
The American air force has developed a new stealth recon helicopter. Surprisingly it has been one of the cheapest innovations ever to come out of the US military which not too long ago was under fire for its mismanagement of funds, and loss of a multi million dollar jet.
"We never even realized we had it until a few days ago." Stated Cornel Smith, "But what's most surprising is that it came from our Delta force. They have no R&D budget, do they... this is like that time we discovered Canada has battle ship."
This technology has not yet been perfected insiders say; they are still having trouble finding some software which will make the damb thing run. No one seems to understand how the Delta force has created something so technically perfect, and yet has no idea about how to make some compatible software.
The Air Forces initial position was surprisingly "no comment", however after the initial posting of this article they responded that "The Delta force doesn't exist... you can't prove anything".
I think it looks cool!
It seems practical as well, there is only so much time before increasing population, and Americans need for bigger cars renders traffic unbearable.
This would allow allot of people to ride tightly packed through traffic. Sure it will probably go at a lower top speed (at least safely) but how often do you hit the top speed in peak hour traffic.
It looks like a little fun; it gets you out doors, and is more convenient than public transport. Sure weather could be a problem but no more than on a motorbike.
I'm sure in time they will make modifications like a partial cover like the new scooters in Europe, and some more carrying space.
I look forward to seeing these being a trend and hopefully replacing the fuel guzzling truck.
Batteries have been improving; just our power consumption has increased at a much faster rate.
Think about it, the largest consumers of power in a laptop are the monitor, the cpu, and the HDD. All the things which have been getting bigger and more powerful, and at the same time we have seen too fewer improvements in efficiency.
At the same time there has also been the introduction of USB, which is a nice way for an peripheral to also draw power from the battery; and demands from the public to build smaller and lighter computers, which has required smaller batteries.
If you are willing to have a slightly larger computer, than battery life is really quite reasonable. For instance the Thinkpad T40 with 9 cell battery lasts over 7 hours.
I think the future for battery life really is in more efficient components. Think how long a battery will last when we are using super conductors.
"Of course, if software patents didn't exist, the whole discussion would be moot and the world would be a much happier place IMHO."
And all the software companies would steal eachothers code. All of them but the company with no talent, who had invested nothing in R&D, would go bankrupt. Then half of us would be out of the job, and software would suck.
Also remember allot of the linux stuff is comparable to MS software, but none of comes close to expert software, and critical system software.
Now I didn't write this and I'm not an American, but I thought it was funny.
THE WALL An American, a Spaniard and a Frenchman are walking on a beach when they discover a genie's lamp. The American rubs the lamp and the genie appears in a puff of blue smoke. She announces to the trio that they will receive a total of three wishes, one each, so they should consider their wishes wisely. The Spaniard is first, and asks the genie to make his country fruitful, his countrywomen beautiful and his traditions preserved. The genie grants the wish. The Frenchman is second. "I'm sick and tired of my homeland being invaded every half century. I would like an impenetrable wall built to protect my beloved France, one which no one can scale." The genie grants the wish. The American thinks for a moment, and asks the genie, "I'm curious about this wall. How big is it?" The genie replies, "The wall around France is 150 high and 50 feet thick. It cannot be penetrated from either side, or climbed, and all the French people of the world are safe inside." "Great," says the American. "Fill it with water."
I know alot of people here will bag any idea just because it came from Microsoft. I don't know why people personally hate them. True they have done bad things, but they have paid for some of them, and will pay for others eventually. They are also showing signs of picking up their act, no one can say that there software has not improved.
Besides opensource software has just as many flaws as MS, there is just less people trying to exploit and find them.
I don't know why everyone thinks this is a victory against the RIAA. Really this is a victory for them as well. They are there to support the recording industry, so that they have the ability to charge for the property they so rightfully own. It really doesn't matter how.
RIAA has supported this idea from the start, but as so many of you selectively note the RIAA is not a company. They can not start there own venture, only attempt to stop illegal ones; which is why they should and will continue to shutdown illegal P2P activity.
Due to the lower price of distribution, imports, exports, tariffs etc. this method of providing music should stop the whiners, because now they have access to music at an affordable price, and should have no need for illegal P2P.
So everyone wins. Well everyone who isn't solely driven by greed at least, and will continue to use the substandard illegal P2P programs.
Playing off a table I would agree with you. But this technology could be improved and used with different surface materials to one day provide sound better than conventional speakers.
I used to be a sound engineer, and there are some major problems with creating really large speakers. Which is why most companies now use line array systems instead, but even these have phase cancellation, and don't represent low frequencies accuratly. This could allow a new way of creating speakers, and I'm sure could be perfected.
Also EAW and Turbo Sund specialise in concert speakers, not quite speakers an audiophile would use. Tannoy, Meyer, now they make speakers.
It doesn't matter weather it boosts sales or not. It is still stealing. If the combind recording industries choose to hamper sales it is their choice not yours.

"anything that's been hardened or shielded against an electromagnetic pulse from a nuclear bomb will probably emerge unscathed."
So countries will protect everything of any value to them, and in the mean time we will all get cancer, dead, or deformed from the microwaves.
Back to the drawing board boys...
Because if a 15 year old committed murder we would just ignore it.
Who cares is the person is a teenager; they have broken a law and should be held responsible. The lesser settlement price is comparable to juvenile detention centers.
I think it's nice... The entire computer industry is bonding over the mutual hate for SCO.

I'm just waiting for the first set of votes to come back with either Deep Blue or HAL in the number one spot.
Sure MicroVote will say that it wasn't their fault. 10 trillion voters obviously wanted a computer run US.
Lets be honest even their website looks like 8th rate programming.

Come on... the French win a war :)

Open office is good, but I still think MS do a better low end database solution and Outlook destroys all competition I've had the chance to use.
