Well- I like the fact that it is up here.

Because any time you see ANYTHING about Halo, it ends up in a 'This was a Mac game first' (Have you SEEN the original game, before it was ported to the Xbox? What a steaming pile THAT was...)

After the Mac people get involved, you've got the PC people, who will tell you how crappy the game is on the Xbox. It's better on a PC. Of course, it really isn't that good anyway, but the Xbox controller sucks compared to a keyboard and mouse. You should only play FPS on a PC.

Late in the game, the RPG fans will step in- they'll just tell you how crappy FPSs are. And how the levels are sooo repetitive. It's a brainless game, without any real depth.

Even with the detractors, the game still chugs on. This will be a huge seller. But I will NOT say that anyone will be proven wrong. The detractors will still have their opinions, and that won't change.

But when you give something this much attention, we start to wonder why you hate it so much...

The other 5% of the time, my wife is watching a movie. And even if she does watch it widescreen- which she usually does, watching it on a 36" 4:3 in widescreen mode (black bars on top and bottom) is still pretty big.

I am biased, because I am a big Xbox fan...but...

Most of the excitement I see around consoles currently, is around the Xbox. The PS2 is starting to look really bad lately, in comparison to Xbox games. The Gamecube has the whole on-line vaccuum which many Nintendo fans say is no big deal. Because they don't understand why there is excitement around on-line gaming. (Trust me, there is)

I was recently at a professional conference at Purdue University. (No, this was not for students, but for technical professionals) The agenda had 'game night' listed for 3 of the nights. I had no idea what it would be- charades, pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey...who knows. Imagine my happy surprise when I walked in the room and saw 4 Xboxes connected via System Link and projected onto big screens. We played for 2 or 3 hours every night, and people who weren't even videogame fans got into the action.

I really don't think people would have/could have done this with the other consoles. This type of technology is what is making the Xbox 'cool' right now. When I have videogame neophytes (or even PS2/Gamecube owners who aren't familiar with the Xbox) over to play some games, they are usually blown away by Xbox Live. "These are REAL people?" they say over and over into the microphone...(sullying my gamertag while doing it).

The better technology built into the Xbox is finally becoming more important, now that people see that all 3 consoles can play games. But the Xbox can save more games, play your own music, play on-line, download new content, system-link...

Hopefully the next Xbox pushes the envelope a little bit further, so games are still exciting 3 years after the launch of the console.

Because when I play on a PS2 or Gamecube, I think that just playing 'standard' console games is a real snore-fest.

Blue screen, green screen- whatever. I saw this movie yesterday, and it was pretty darn bad. Not so horrible that I couldn't watch it, but if it hadn't looked nice, I would have walked out.

It's obvious that they were going for a 1940's serial look - Flash Gordon, etc. They achieved that, and I think they hit the target they were aiming at.

But when a movie-goer from 2004 goes to see this film, some of the situations and dialogue are so bad, that it's pitiful. I am not kidding when I say that most of the theatre was laughing AT the movie. Not at the parts that were supposed to be funny- just at the parts that were supposed to be serious, but ended up being so sappy that it was just sad.

Yes- they were going for the 40's serial, yes they hit their mark...but it was really, really bad. Even the producers of those serials wouldn't make the same movies today if they had a choice.

I also bought Opposing Forces, which for some reason I actually played BEFORE Half-Life. I think if I went back and played Half-Life now, I would probably cry, but for it's time, it was a great game.

If they come out with another game (Half Life 2) with an intriguing storyline, some features on a game you've never seen before, and head crabs that slowly work their way down to your crotch...then I think it will be a great game.

The biggest X-Box Live games tend not to be fpses...

Have you looked at the list of the most popular Xbox Live games? (Rather than taking an informal poll of what you and your friends are playing...which if you are sane, is Burnout 3)

Here are the top 25 games on Xbox live.

Of the 25 games, 7 1/2 are FPS's. Including the #1 game now (Rainbow Six 3: Black Arrow) and the game that has been #1 since last December- until Black Arrow took over (Rainbow Six 3).

The FPSs on the list are:

    • Rainbow Six 3:Black Arrow
    • Counter-Strike
    • Rainbow Six 3
    • Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow (1/2 FPS, depending on your team)
    • Ghost Recon: Island Thunder
    • Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Tides of War
    • Unreal Championship
    • Ghost Recon

But, at least you didn't do what most people do, and say 'Xbox is just for people who want to play crappy FPSs'. Because while there are a lot of FPSs (and a lot of them are good) there are also a lot of other types of games.

From the same list- which is obviously a list of games that people are really still playing:

    • 7.5 FPSs
    • 6 Sports games (NFL 2K5 beats Madden- YES!)
    • 7 Racing Games (watch Burnout 3 move up the charts)
    • 2.5 'Action' Games. (Mechassault and Crimson Skies)
    • 1 Totally Crappy RPG (Phantasy Star)

The only game on the list I have never played, is Jedi Knight, so I honestly have no idea what type of game it is.

But to say that the Xbox Live games tend not be be First Person Shooters is probably wrong. FPSs are up there with everything else, and because they dominate the TOP of the list, they are probably the #1 genre overall.

And finally- I would have to say that YES, Halo is an awesome game. Judging from the sentence structure in both of your paragraphs, I am going to say that you are obviously too caught up in your own psuedo-intellectual world to really enjoy a game where you go around shooting everything in sight. Your writing makes it sound as though you are just learning to 'write for business'- and now you take yourself way to seriously to have fun with such a childish game.
