Actually IPv6 addresses work differently than the current IPv4. The IP address is a long mangled form of the MAC address. When they say they want everything out there on the internet with its own address, they mean it.
Though still it shouldn't be impossible to use NAT, but I would imagine it won't be as transparent to the user as it is right now. (ie Linksys routers, etc).
They know what they're doing. They're well aware that it's only a matter of time before someone comes up with a Linux driver. So in the interest of saving cost and still keeping their specs "closed", they let Linux driver developers do all the work for them and keep selling the chips to Linux users. It's a vicious development cycle.
That's odd because they don't seem to mention that. They don't even tell you where you can download 1.2.x. Seems to me like sticking with an old version like that is asking to be hacked.
"They're obtaining lists of who purchased the devices during raids against the sites that offer them for sale."
Is it just me or does this sound highly illegal? When a place gets raided (assuming it was by law enforcement) doesn't law enforcement keep the evidence? Why would DirecTV of all people just be given this information when no laws have been proven broken? This sounds like another mockery of the justice system to me.
It's nice to see these production companies caring about their fan base. This will bring them their money while at the same time satisfying the demand for the movies on DVD. It would be nice if some of the greedier people *cough*George Lucas*cough* would get with this trend and appreciate their fans.
giFT has many graphical frontends and a plugin for the FastTrack network. It works quite well for me, without the overhead of running some form of Kazaa in Wine.
If anything it's so that they can bounce their laser guns more effectively off of your car, thereby writing you a ticket and increasing their revenue. Pigs...
Laws probably won't do much good when the spammers are using hacked machines to send out their trash. This means that John Q. Neverpatches is going to be in a lot of trouble if this law gets written incorrectly!
I don't like it much when the government suppresses our rights. However, we all know that one person's rights end where the next one's begin. And if this paper was published, it could jeapordize a lot of people and information. I wonder how he was able to get all this information unchecked if it's supposed to be so secret? Did he have permission, or could any Joe Terrorist go find this stuff out too? It's scary to think what a malicious person or group could do with this information.
The difference here is a cell phone call is interactive unlike the radio. You actually are concentrating on a conversation and (presumably) thinking about what you are saying. As was pointed out in another reply, having the people in the car with you is different than struggling to hear someone over a cell phone and trying to listen to what they're saying. With a passenger, you share the same environment and you can concentrate on your driving. A phone call in the car tends to be an involved conversation so you give it more attention then you would someone sitting next to you to whom you can tune out to some degree.
Politicians and inventors seem to think that the cause of cell-phone related accidents has something to do with their hands being too occupied. I think it's quite obvious that the real problem is that people can't focus on two things at once. I don't think any of these new laws or hands-free technology will improve anything because little Susy driving around in her new BMW SUV that her daddy gave her isn't going to be saved when she's talking to Jennifer about how her boyfriend Chad just dumped her and she changes lanes into MY CAR!
"ATI actively assists qualified 3rd party Linux developers writing software for the majority of ATI products by providing them with development kits and information.
We have also made every attempt to provide hardware 2D acceleration for all shipping products and will continue to assist XFree86 developers with their work."
I run honeypots and work in security and I can tell you firsthand that this is definitely an accurate conclusion to draw. People exploit Windows boxes all the time and the only things I ever see them do with them are opening up spam relays or hooking it up as a bot to a warez IRC channel. There's absolutely no skill involved, it's just script kiddies with automated tools taking advantage of lazy Windozers who forget to set SQL passwords or ever patch their system with the latest updates. It's pathetic, and it really makes me think that spam can never be stopped no matter how much legislation gets passed.
A large amount of Iraqi injuries come from their own incompetence. For instance, their useless anti-aircraft ammunition goes up into the air, at thousands of rounds per minute. It has to come down somewhere, and that somewhere is Baghdad.
Of course there's always the issue of tyrant leaders forcing civilians to stand in front of military targets. I'm sure your army aims much better though, rock on!
IBM or some other big powerhouse needs to get their lawyers on this one. Linux is getting raped by FUD here. Save us IBM!
Ah but Mountain Dew and potato chips will get you nowhere!
Though still it shouldn't be impossible to use NAT, but I would imagine it won't be as transparent to the user as it is right now. (ie Linksys routers, etc).
And here I was hoping there were some intelligent engineers behind this endeavor. Doh!

Damn you, I submitted this story first!

Begun, this copyright war has.

The GPL license is "a virus" as defined by Microsoft, but has helped spawn many great free variants of the Linux operating system and tools for it.
The BSD license says you can make money off of their code, and they spawned the virus that is Microsoft!
How's that for your free software irony.

That's supposed to be cooler than OpenBSD?!

DRI support stops with the 8500 since ATI has neglected to provide the newest hardware specs to open source developers.
This won't work on cards higher than the 8500. ATI has not released the specifications to open source developers.
Is there any advantage to using this over the already-usable RSA key authentication in SSH?
