  1. Purchase? on Home Stereo Equipment With Online Music Purchasing · · Score: 0

Why would anyone ever purchase information? That's illogical. Information should be shared freely, perhaps for donations. Trying to do otherwise is like trying to hold water in your hands--you can't hold gravity off forever, and you can't keep information locked forever.

  2. Technology good. on Toshiba Pushes Safe, Small Nuclear Reactor Design · · Score: 1, Insightful

Too many luddites are trying to reverse the tide of technology. Don't /.ers love technology? Nuclear technology is a triumph of physics--it's something no other animal has mastered.

  3. Business model? on Wanted: a Real Science Channel · · Score: 0

Why not take the business model of public broadcasting and work from donations? The immediate problem will be funding. Sadly, the majority of people are unevolved morons, and advertisers want to target a majority. The only way to keep shows on psychics and astrology off the air is to rely on direct donations (or subscriptions).

  4. English sucks. on Text Mining the Multiverse · · Score: 0

How about a computer parsable language like lojban? You can't polish a turd, and you can't systematically extract information from English.

  5. Why assume nerds lack aesthetics? on The Substance of Style · · Score: 0

Nerds are superior--they can do anything others can do, but sometimes they choose not to. When they've killed everyone else, there will still be aesthetics.

  6. It's free anyway. on US Senate Backs Genetic Privacy · · Score: 0

It's just marketers doing their marketing. Why bother when most will put in fake info anyway?

  7. Stupid registrations. on US Senate Backs Genetic Privacy · · Score: 0

How much longer will we deal with this junk? I'm hoping you give fake info. "Why yes, my e-mail is f@off.com. Thank you."

  8. All patents are evil. on Microsoft Patents Your Local Weather Report · · Score: 0

It's just when Microsoft gets one that it shows how evil they are. Abolish patents.

  9. Nerd checklist. on China Sends First Taikonaut To Space · · Score: 0

-Communism...hmmm...hey, isn't information free there? Cool!

    -Space...technology...wow wow wow.

-Asians. Hey, isn't that near Japan.

  10. nerds...atheists on Supreme Court Will Hear Pledge of Allegiance Case · · Score: 0

Simple logic. Nerds are intelligent people. Intelligent people tend to be atheist. Thus, nerds tend to be atheist.

  11. Perl is created by a Christian. on The Perl Cookbook, 2nd Edition · · Score: -1, Flamebait

How can a Christian be logical at all? Let me guess...you can't delete a file unless it has the "sin" flag marked on it.

  12. Blender, others... on Even Grues Get Full · · Score: 0

I think a good business model is to take all these naysayers who say tips will never work, and have them put their money where their unoriginal mouth is. If they want to be blinded by extreme cynicism, hey, at least profit.

  13. Is there a place to donate? on Even Grues Get Full · · Score: 0

On the website? I want them to give books for nominal value, and get profit from tips.

  14. Why not lower price and ask for tips? on Even Grues Get Full · · Score: 0

Magnatune is doing it. USA Today mentioned tipware. Those are both music, but it should work for books.

  15. How is it theft? How can digital be property? on SunnComm Says Pointing to Shift Key 'Possible Felony' · · Score: 0

    This makes no sense.

  16. What about false positives? on The Next Step In Spam Filtering · · Score: 0

That should be at least as important a figure. How many false positives does this Baysian filtering generate?

  17. Likely a change to stop "pirating". on Half-Life 2 Delayed Following Code Leak · · Score: -1, Troll

The business model of copy-locking has to go away. They can request donations instead. If cdex, xiph, bittorrent, scorched3d, blender, and others can do it, why not a large production value game? It's a risk, but the donation model can pay off big.

  18. If copyright were abolished... on Charter Cable Sues To Quash RIAA Subpoenas · · Score: -1, Offtopic

...there would be no need to squash these subpeonas. If you try to get a subpeona for violation of a nonexistent law, you'll get laughed out.

I know one difference was you still needed to buy the disc in the store.

  22. What about DVD extras? on New Disney / Samsung HDD Video Set-Top Box · · Score: 4, Insightful

Will you get widescreen, or at least the option? What about the 5.1 sound? And I doubt the video quality will approach DVD. When they say you'll get exactly the content of a DVD, then there's a reason to switch. The only service to do this seems to be netflix, which just sends you the damn disc.

  23. It's like "humans versus animals". on Half Life 2 Source Code Leaked · · Score: 1

Animals meaning "animals besides humans" is widely used as well, and is based on backwards thinking. Same thing with "stealing" information.
