Here's a template for you to use to prove a prima facie case:
S - significance - how big is the problem?
H - harm - is there any real harm?
I - inherency - is the problem built into "the system" or is it just a coincidental occurance ?
T - topicality - is your symptom really related to the problem?
S - solvency - would the problem actually be solved?

The fact that you don't have a mastery of Middle English tells me that just because you have an M.Div. doesn't necessarily make you more qualified as a theologian than someone who has made a serious study of the old languages and Church history without possession of any degree in them to speak of. In either case, it *is* clear from the full text of the First Amendment that *all* speech was intended to be covered, not just "political speech".

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Notice the mention of religion? Notice the mention of the press? These are not necessarily related to "politics".
