    Is that self defeating? What I mean is the commonly held reason for Macs not being targets is because they are so few compared to the number of MS installs.
    It's like back in the day with linux. Linux did not have a known virus until it gained popularity. Though security does help that fact.
    Give Macs even a quarter of the MS market and you will see every script kiddy going for macs.

    Proficiency is more than just hardware and software, it's knowing how to take direction, manage budgets, work within corporate systems guidelines you don't agree with, and much more.
    That's why one attends college.

    What I meant was; Personally I have the proficiency in network administration. Equal to someone who has been working "professionally" for 5 years or more. However I do not have 5+ years "professional" experience.

    So if you can answer the questions then what difference does it make whether you have 3 or 10 years under your belt.

    This will be interesting because I think we will see dual band recievers. Often for one reason or another (interference most likely) GPS will give you incorrect position or non at all. However if you have a reciever that can switch over to galileo then this could greatly help all who use GPS. Just think of all the current applications currently using GPS. Shipping, personal aircraft, recreation, wardrivers! Suddenly WiGle will become a lot more accurate.

    There's a big difference between picking up a wifi network and acutally maintaining a usable link. IMHO a lot of this "Warflying" and "Warsailing" crap serves no real purpose. In a way the less sensitive your antenna is the more acurate the location of a network is mapped. In way I am playing devils advocate and in another it is my opinion.

    I'm too young for punch cards however my folks aren't. My father just let me know he has prior art. I'm sitting here with a very dusty item processing program on punch cards. On the cards themselves comments are written about things to be added and depricated. So where do I mail this 10lb stack of yellow cards?

    The codes are available on the net if you know where to look. Often they are found on auto enthusiast websites. Websites like Focaljet.com

    Not only that there is a great project for retrieving codes under linux. The project is called FreeDiag. It can be found at Sourceforge.net

    Not only that, there are some great "open" cables you can build yourself. the BR interface is my fav. It happens to work very nicely with freediag.

    Very true. Davaide, the maintainer of Xmail Server still has not decided on any of the new methods.

    Rightly so. Everyone is heading in 5 different directions. Of course it will take a power house to set the standard. It just so happens the power house will be MS.

    Unless opensource can come together. Mod me as a troll but I do think opensource and come together are words that have not and will not ever be used again in a sentence.

    Now that I think about it. I wrote a paper on how the current petrochemical infrastructure requires little to no adaptation to become a biochemical infrastructure.

    This is an interesting idea. I've always maintained that a biodiesel industry would be best suited for a distributed model. Small installations around soybean farms to produce the oil and lower transportation costs.

    I guess a model like hoover damn would work. Build a large central installation that would produce a vast amount of energy. In doing so it provided a state with an economy that would have otherwise ended up like maine.

    No offence to maine but asside from lobster, timber, and steven king their aint much.

    I'm sure there are other costs and payoffs but that's the biggest I see so far, aside from the forgone conclusion of a cleaner environment and energy independence.

    Right, bittorrent is not a good persistent conduit. However that is midigated by the mirrors that pop up on standard HTTP and FTP servers. Bittorrent is just a great way to get a lot of large files out to a lot of people at the same time while using a little bandwidth as possible.

    Right but I thought it was interesting drawing a parallel with todays sociopolitical movements and the fictional, post Armageddon, dystopic society portrayed in mad max. The reason they were using pig shit was that oil was scarce. They warred over oil. Also an under class was forced to work to provide for an upper class who did little more than expend the energy in wasteful ways.

    You have to checkout Taliesin West. This is the winter home of the Frank Lloyd Wright Architect school. Very cool things to see and do. There are are also a number of buildings in the surounding area that are very cool as well.
    If you feel the need to come to Seattle do so but be warned of two things. 1) Do not go outside of the city of Seattle 2) It does not rain all the time.

    I did that using the lattest sources for both the acpi patch and kernel. It did not work well with my wireless card and a usb serial adapter I had. Also battery life suffered.

    Sony laptops use ACPI instead of APM. This makes lif very difficult for loading non MS OS's. Though there is some great work being done for linux it is still not at a usable and stable level. This may change come the 2.6 kernel but I doubt it.

    So what's so special here? Freenet has been around for ages. I don't mean to be a troll but really this style of P2P while very redundant and "reliable" is way to slow for any real purpose. Hell this one looks like it's going to totally kill any free bandwidth that may be lurking some where on the net.

    Too much overhead.
