  1. Re:Real changelog? on KDE 3.5 Released · · Score: 1

Sorry to be such a newb, but how would I do that? Looking at the SVN doc on kde.org it looks like I can do things like svn diff BASE and HEAD etc etc, but how do I say "diff between 3.5RC1 and 3.5"? And if the answer is I have to do it as a comparison between what I have locally and what's on the svn server will that work since I used konstruct and the files are under konstruct "work" folders that probably don't match / line up with what folders are on the svn server? Thanks.

I've been using KDE 3.5 RC1 for a while and I like it. Haven't had any issues so far. So question is, where can I find a real changelog (not the "todo", "in progress", "done" feature chart thingy) for KDE 3.5? I don't really want to "konstruct" KDE 3.5 for another 3 days to get the released version if nothing major changed between RC1 and released.

Again, people on slashdot making assumptions. Did I say that the whole movie takes up 1GB? No. I said I have a 1GB memory stick on which I have Office Space. I can fit up to 4 movies on a 1GB memory stick and the movies will be just ok. I can fit 2 movies that look great. Right now I just have 1 movie on there (taking up about 450mb) because I use the rest for music and game data.

Who said anything about a $20 DVD (I'm assuming you mean UMD)? I have yet to buy (and probably won't ever) a UMD movie for the PSP. The UMD I was talking about was the FREE one that came with the unit.

If anything it shows me the quality of the screen and how great my ripped movies from my DVD collection are going to look on it (which so far I've got Office Space on my 1 GB memory stick and as I expected it looks AWESOME).

I never thought I'd buy one, but then my wife surprised me with one for my birthday. I love it! I justify it because it basically replaced my Sharp Zaurus SL-5600 (I even sold it on Ebay). Truth is I only used my Zaurus to play games, surf the web and watch movies on the go. Never really used it as a PDA. So all of the sudden I have a PSP that does all of that and way better in an almost as compact form factor (yes it fits in my pocket).

Long story short, I think the answer to "can't see the appeal of a PSP" is for people like me who want movies, web and games on the go in a smaller than laptop form factor. I'm sure there are others that may have a different answer, but for me that's it.

I really wanted to build my own DVR/PVR box but I ended up getting a Tivo. I think what it comes down to with me, is I didn't have another box laying around. That appears to be the argument with most people towards building a cheap DVR/PVR.

Oh just grab a box you have laying around and for around $200 you'll have a sweet little MythTv box etc etc. But when you don't have one laying around you're looking at at least $500 from what I calculated.

So I picked up my Tivo box for $50 from Target and yes I do have to pay $13 a month but I figure that in the time it takes for that $13 a month to add up to the cost of my MythTv box (approx 3 years) I'll be ditching it all and going all HDTV anyway; and at that time I'll re-evaluate BYO DVR/PVR vs. flat out buying one.

If it weren't for the $150 rebate Tivo has going on right now, I'd probably still be undecided. Heck I even submitted an Ask Slashdot that got rejected trying to get an idea of how other ppl decided which/what to go with.

I looked at MCE (expensive), MythTv (Free but a pain to setup), Tivo (Montly fees), standalong units (Sony, Toshiba, but also expensive), SageTv (not free but easy to setup), etc, etc.

I would have went with MythTv in a heartbeat but because I don't have a spare PC laying around it would have still cost me around $500 to build one. And with Tivo only being $50 I finally went with Tivo. I figure by the time the monthly fees add up to $500 (about 3 years) I'll be switching out everything anyway because I'll be going to HDTV.

Last night I decided to check out the MTV VMAs because I saw a commercial on MTV that said you can watch online, on demand, in total control.

Well I fired up FireFox on my Linux desktop and went to http://overdrive.mtv.com/ and low and behold it said: "We're sorry, you're running a Unix system.".

Well, ok, let me go over to the wifey's XP desktop and fire up FireFox. Low and behold it says you must be using IE.

Well unfortunately IE has never worked properly on my wife's computer. So I'm basically SOL as far as MTV is concerned. Oh well.

What would help me would be a plug-in for FireFox that sends a custom post/get header thingy that let's me tell the web server that I'm on a Windows OS running IE (even though it's FireFox on Linux). I know Opera let's you say you're IE but it doesn't let you change your O.S.
