SearchIRC.com already makes it's database available to http://ircimages.com for URL extraction, but in this case, it looks for graphic URLs.
I could take it a step further and have the server cache the images so that dead links are not displayed, but... right now I don't think it's a good idea for me to cache all that porn and god know what else:)
The odd thing is that people are reporting the robot joining channels, doing/whois on users and more.
What value could the/whois info from random users have?
The only thing one can safely say about this whole situation is: Google is doing some testing on IRC.
Personally, this is how I look at it:
Google ranks websites according to many criteria. Ranging from keyword density, keywords, text placement on the page, to incoming links and what the text within the links say. What use could IRC have? It is possible that active topics that are being discussed in real time could be used to help boost rankings towards subjects that are currently hot topics, similar to how google currently temporarily boosts the scoring of newly indexed pages to the google index. This is of course, pure speculation.
As others no doubt have already thought -- actual postings of private user information would be useless, as ChatScan had several million in funding couldn't pull it off with the IRC community two years ago. However, using that information to derive popular subjects might.
OTOH, google can likely gleam similar information from the millions of searches users enter into their search engine each day.
I don't know... I have only seen the final movie once so far, so maybe I missed on something, but right now from what I remember, the ending seemed very vague.
It was said that humans who want to leave the matrix can.. but that was how the matrix in the first movie worked. Those who didn't belive would go to Zion. So I don't know if you're reading into it too much or not. There was no details given as far as humans being able to go back and forth between the worlds.
Also, most people currently think that neo dies in the third movie. Why would the oracle tell the child that she thinks they will see neo again, at a later date unless the machines are still recreating neo as the mechanism to keep the abnormalities in the matrix in check?
i think that the wachowskis stayed out of the lime light and didn't want to talk about themselves because they knew the third one was going to suck and they didn't want people to know where they lived.
I'm just kidding of course.
Ultimately, did Neo win? Regardless of if he lived or died in the end, the computers still control the matrix, and there are humans living under ground in Zion.
We go through three movies, and end up with no change.
It's not always possible to find who sent the spam. My point is a competitor can set someone up using the logic of the money trail with little to no evidence of their involvement.
I've run itunes on 2 computers so far, a 3ghz p4 w/ 2 gig of ram, and an amd 2.2ghz with 1 gig of ram, and the itunes program is VERY slow. Trying to resize the window panes suffers from 2-3+ second delay before the window starts to move.
Both computers run winxp.
I'm glad someone else pointed this out -- as it's the major drawback to the program for me.
I don't feel any less silly considering the printer itself now jams paper and crumples them up. Judging from the last 3 printers I've bought, generally speaking, printers don't seem to last much more than a year before crapping out.
I own a fairly cheap $70 lexmark printer.
The other day I bought new inks for it, cost me $75 (including tax).
Later that day I went to WAL-MART and found lexmark had similar printers (new) for $29, and it included color and blank ink that I just paid $75 for.
I for one am going to seek alternatives to Lexmark. They never impressed me with the quality of their printers anyway.
Check my url. Right now there are over one million people on IRC. You can search through listings of over 600,000 chatrooms, and you don't have to download an IRC client to join them - just click on the name of a channel and a java chat brings you there. That totally blows away all the paid services. We have built it, and you are more than welcome to join the party.
As for FREE chatrooms not being "safe" for kids... clearly, that is a ridiculous ploy that/.'ers can see right through. Free does not make something unsafe. IRC is self moderating. That means, the *parents* have the option to set up private chatrooms on IRC where THEY moderate their children's activities. Try doing that on MSN.
With websites like SearchIRC giving anyone who wants it, instant access to over a thousand IRC networks, I don't see that MSN unmoderated chat going away as being a big deal to the overall scheme of things on the internet.
DALnet is a poor example since it ranks 6th overall, and has been having issues with DoS attacks for quite some time now.
The top 4 IRC networks are around 100,000 concurrent users on avg, with Quakenet at close to 150,000.
With IM, you're basically at one company's whim. IRC has existed long before the WWW or IM. I'll bet that it will exist at least as long as WWW/IM, if not longer.
They don't care about anything -- even if the very software they are protecting is WANTED by the authors/company to be given away freely. Shareware is just one example of this
If the NYT is showing google one page (without needing them to login), and the users another (requiring them to login), then that's cloaking.
Really, google should be the one to remove their pages, as anyone who's caught cloaking is normally banned.
Well, lets put it this way:
I bought a lexmark printer a year ago. The ink ran out, so I went to best buy and bought replacement color and black. With tax, the two replacement inks carts came out to $75.
The next day I went to walmart. Guess what? Brand new lexmark printer for sale -- comes with color and black (same cartrages that I paid $75 for the day before), and the whole package was $55.
Guess what? I am screwed for buying replacement carts. I should have bought another throw away printer.

The reloading of the matrix took place after the neo-smith battle. The ground fixed itself, and the little girl made a pretty sunrise.

The biggest problem with the movie was change.

> What happens if a competitor sends spam on your "behalf"?
Not exactly something google would desire.

VeriSign actually runs the matrix. Sitefinder service is what keeps us enslaved.

"I am going to kill you". ^- That is speech about an illegal activity, and it's not protected.

I'm going to patent a method of breathing air and charge everyone in the world a one time setup fee of 1 cent.
How many people are there in the world?
Get a Dell 400mhz Axim and a CF GPS addon for less than the price of this palm. You'll get a lot more for the money.

bah. I just woke up. Ignore my stupid post.
Given a file "HP-UX", `ls *U*X` would match it
I refill carts, but after about 5 times, the heads no longer function. Thats why I went out and bought replacements :/
