(I can't find a reference to this. not even on a level 2, instead of the usual level 4 comment level.)
Perhaps someone might make a new computer interface with it. Something like seen in the movie minority report, staring Tom Cruise.
Perhaps it already exist, i don't know.
But I would sure try it. I find it annoying that I always have to switch towards a mouse for certain tasks.
Hopefully it reduces RSI.
But as with everything, it depends on the design.
It can replace keyboard and mouse.
It can be used in places where you can't talk vs speech control.
It can replace a touch-screen in certain circumstances.
It could be used with a pen or a blackboard, provided it can learn your movements when writing and transfer your written words into a digital form.
Who knows, with nanotech we discards the globe and build it into our hands.
Ho, well. Your imagination/memory is as good as mine.
I wonder how many new species we will see before and after the earth slides into an ice age?
I don't think you, me or we are going to see many new species before or after.
What others will see are your, mine and our dead corpses.
And they will see it long before the end of any ice age.

Hey, wait a moment.
You make noise?
I mean, you MAKE noise so that you can sleep?
Hell, I turn off my Apple/PC to have NO noise.
And I live in the middle of town.br.
Thank you for your reply.
You reminded me of something I forgot.
And btw, I most certainly don't think that politicians are always right, as I don't think the public is always right.
If you can tell me where you got that quote, I will be grateful.
What we have now is effectively dictatorial.
Perhaps, but sometimes unpopular laws has to be made. e.g. smoking is unhealthy, therefor it's banned in pubs.
What I want is an end to all dictators.
So do I.
What I want is a government that is accountable to its electors on a daily basis,
Do you really want that? If you do this, those who are elected (or want to be elected) will be even more concerned with how to please the voters. They will only do the things that the voters want, and perhaps e.g. a tax-increase may be needed for something.
government by electoral consensus: a system of government that can't be bought by big money.
Then the government must provide the political parties with the means to run their campaigns, etc. This is implemented in some countries.
And an an end to all personal ambition in politics.
Yeah right. No ambition means that none will want the job.
A healthy ambition is a necessity.
There must be no hidden agendas for those we place in positions of responsibility.
Suppose a big comet is headed our way. We have many years to prepare, but announce it today and we have panic. Panic that could endanger our survival.
I am sick to death of having my cheese moved around by people over whom I have no control.
You have more control than most people. Go vote.
Don't get me started.
By all means do. It's a noble thing that you want to make the world a better place, but perhaps you should think it over ones more.
"...enhanced spam filtering in Mail."
I don't see it. I see a a screenshot of mail, but nothing about spam filtering. Perhaps I am overlooking it. But for me, anyway, enhanced spam filtering means that the code/protocols/rules/databases/whatever with wich the filtering works is (being) improved. And such things can't be seen on a screenshot. Unless it's one of the sourcecode, I guess.
So how come the poster is claiming enhanced spam filtering is incorperated?
"Besides, I don't generally buy the notion that education for everyone would lead to world peace."
It might not give us world peace, but perhaps superstition (e.g. religion, astrology,...) will diminish.
Or so I am deluded.
"VLC works just fine"
Indeed it does.
I also have mplayer, but I find VLC far better.
I have "installed" the Divx-codec for mac, but Quicktime seems to disregard it.
I prefer that the Divx codec is used over all that MS-mediaplayer crap. Although Xvid would even be better.
I used to have a winbox, a linuxbox and now I have an Apple powerbook.
I don't recall great difficulties playing divx-files under any of these systems.
Perhaps you are still using DOS?
When your cellphone switch from operator, you are roaming. This can or can not include different prices (or is it prizes?). Usually it does involve a change in what you pay, when using the phone.
Or perhaps you don't care about how much you pay. As a poor student, I do.
It's simply informing the customer, about the system you are using, and therefore at what rate you are calling.
Calling me how cheap they are, however is spamming.
This is great.
This might mean that when (not if, but when) we run out of oil, we might still have airplanes around. (Kerosine is airplane-fuel, which comes from oil.)
Yes, I do belief that in ten to twenty years we have reached the hight of oilproduction.
I was more thinking about SFX and such.
Are actors overpaid? Hell yes.
Do I care about the big companies? Hell no.
Do I care about my entertainment? (Do keep in mind that not everyone likes high culture stuff.) Hell yes.
Should I pay to ensure that there will still be my kind of entertainment in the future? Yes.
Does that mean companies have to right to fuck me over and over? Hell no.
Do I think that they should change their business-model? Hell yes.
Why would you want to post a torrent link? Don't you see, I am willing to pay for it. Am i going to buy it? Most likely not. Why? Cost to much, I don't like being ripped of. But i am willing to pay a reasonable price for reasonable rights.
no, not eveyone is doing things illegal. But it's the perception that the industry has that matters.
This might convince them there is no other way then pouring DRM-stuff down our throats.
With the loss of freedom in the USA today, I am happy to be living in Europe. I hope that ITMS will be big succes. I think that might provide us with content, while retaining our freedom.
You don't really think those companies are going to stand idly by while there profit melts away?
In life nothing is free.
Either you pay now, or you pay in the long run.
Unfortunately this doesn't simply means a delay of payment.
We may end with free music now and no music in the future.
This might seem silly, since many can make pretty decent music on their instruments and spread it for free on the net.
But it's different with games and movies. I don't see anyone making The Matrix Reloaded on their PC or Mac with only their free time.
How the ITMS ends up now, will guide the decision for the moviemakers.
And then I haven't even mentioned that DRM-stuff the americans are facing.
"Maybe we ought to consider the possibility that intergalactic space-travel is not physically possible hence we will never meet "aliens" from other planets?"
Perhaps.
But this is also possible:
They aren't interested in space.
The galaxy has some superpowers, who are for the moment at peace. With Earth in the middle of the DMZ.
They are interested in space, but simply not in us. ("Look at those silly humans. Can't even get of their own planet")
Get an Apple powerbook.
Unless you are into sciences (math, physics,..), then get a pencil and a huge pile of paper. Latex is great, but not for taking quick notes.
Or perhaps an Apple powerbook with Inkwell. Can't comment on that though.
I don't live in America and am therefore not familiar with (american) commercials and their broadcasting.
If I watch TV, I change (most of the time) the channel whenever there are commercials. Thank goodness, they don't vary the duration too much. Mostly I watch the public channel, without commercials. I really dislike commercials. If i don't want to buy your product, without you having to force it down my throat by flooding me with commercials, then i don't need to buy your product.
I can't imagine someone watching voluntarily commercials.
At least not without being paid for it.
The only time when I see a commercial, is when I am too late, too early in switching or too lazy to find the remote.
And with Tivo you can skip the commercials with one push of a button. (so says the article)
So what's the value of the information they are selling?
If the only commercials you watch are by accident.
Or are Americans not concerned into getting lured to buy something they don't want or need?
"I find your beliefs comical."
Thanks, I have many more like them.
One day, It was funny to think we would ever go the moon.
Not wanting a driver licence is my choice, and mine alone. Feel free to find that comical.
But I do hope that you don't find switching to a hydrogen based economy comical. Or keeping nuclear power plants around comical.
Perhaps the notion that fusion will ever work is funny as well?
Well I guess, that now America has conquered Iraq, the USA has all the oil it needs. So why switch, he?
Well, in less then 20 years the peak production of oil will be behind us.
I guess that when needed, we can all switch from oil to hydrogen in a matter of days when the oil runs out.
Oh, nope, I don't think so. I find that comical.
So, what's wrong with switching?
Finally.
This should have been out decades ago.
It's time to switch to a hydrogen based economy.
There is still the problem of the egg and the chicken. No fuel-stations, no motors, and the other way around.
Perhaps this will break the egg problem. Hopefully some gov. takes responsibility and encourages the building of fuel-stations. That would solve the chicken problem.
We should get rid of fossil fuels, and switch to hydrogen and nuclear power.
Once we have fusion, we can stop the fission-based power plants.
And in a hundred years or so, we'll feel comfortable in space. Meaning that putting something safely in space won't be a big problem or safety-risk. Then we can take all that nuclear waste, shoot it in small packets off the planet towards the sun. I don't think she would mind that much.
I don't have a driver licence, and I refuse to get one if it means riding around in a fossil based vehicle. Perhaps the day I'll get one is coming closer.
Actually It's more a symbolic action, my dad drives me around if needed. That's about once a week.
Yes, I am old enough to have a drivers licence. No, I don't work yet. Yes, it will be difficult to maintain this silent protest once I have a job.
A quote I learned at school, I forgot from whom though:
"Oil is not a fuel. Better to heat with paper money."
Perhaps someone might make a new computer interface with it. Something like seen in the movie minority report, staring Tom Cruise.

3) Profit!!
