So why the fuck do the windrones keep harassing me for using M$, even when their own search engines doesn't recognise MS as being microsoft (it's not even on the first page) and I know the nearly every person on the globe recognises M$:D
Differentiating it is the easiest thing in the world to do. So easy in fact, that and country and government can do it. Compare the advertising, to the warranty to the actual product. The lies will be pretty obvious and based upon the damage caused by the software, penalise them accordingly.
Now giving something away does not compare to selling it and there is a distinct difference between one product where the faults are not only hidden from public view they are in fact denied, over and over again versus the other product which is available for for public review and auditing.
In the case of open source the customer can review every line of code, nothing is hidden from them, they aren't even forced to do it on their own, in fact the whole greater community upon a global scale can review that code and anybody can access those reviews of that code as they are broadcast.
So there is a huge difference between closed source proprietary code that is sold and open source code that is given away. Really in point of fact with FOSS you are not so much giving away the application you are giving away the code behind the application and have access to review all faults known and unknown to the distributor of that software, a substantive warranty difference when compared to closed source software where you are selling the application not the code behind the application which is kept secret from you along with all it's faults known and unknown.
So in this case the FOSS people have made a major error in not differentiating between an application as the final product and the code for that application as the final product. Now add to that the all the commercial FOSS companies do not sell software they sell service and support, hence their underlying reasonable warranty requirements are bound to that only. Just to make it even trickier, I own a piece of every FOSS package out there even without writing one line of code, so do you and so does every one else, nobody at any time or in any way is excluded from accessing the product, the code, that they already technically own.
Easiest test, what if an individual had done it directly rather than a corporation, you know, the snake oil salesman type. So a person sells chemicals to women telling them they will be healthier if they take them knowing full well it wont cure in fact it will kill some of them, bearing in mind this individual has full access to doctors, scientists, chemists and the latest laboratory equipment, so ignorance is now excuse, it is just another lie.
Likely charges would be fraud, criminal negligence and manslaughter. That manslaughter charge of course would be subject to review dependent upon how many women where killed, one or two versus hundreds and even thousands. If corporate executives where actually tried for their crimes as justice demands, you could pretty well guarantee that the top 100 serial killers of the 20th century would all be corporate executives.
A lot of lobbyists are lawyers, a lot of politicians are lawyers, the current system had been made to push every challenge into court with accompanying major court costs. Honestly how likely do you think major patent reform is.
Geek fail. AOL bought Netscape which became Mozilla which of course gave (emphasis on gave) us Firefox, so AOL can be consider worthy of Geek redemption, maybe;). It certainly looks like the old world media types are really struggling leaving an opening for new world media types to gain market share.
Interesting side point, the old world media types will be more likely to let the journalists that don't toe the corporate line and a more likely to report the news rather than just make advertising look like the news. Net result over time the old world media types will get caught out fabricating the news more and more often by reporters who now work for competitors and who know all the old world media dirty trade secrets.
The internet news channels will be working hard to build a reputation for honestly and accuracy, so as to gain as much market share as possible as news shifts from TV (the idiot box, have to laugh), to streaming content on a computer.
Yow, where did that come from. A lot of coders liked to joke about vi plus all the plain editors etc. but from my perspective having using many programs especially a lot CAD work which of course is intensely GUI based, using programs that all share the same basic functionality and gui layout makes a lot of sense. There are literally hundreds of thousands of programs with the same basic menu structure, the biggest difference out there being 'tools -> option' versus 'edit -> preferences', having one program change what has become the accepted paradigm for the GUI menu structure just disrupts that overall GUI learning process, for each new application you try.
Did they even bother to give users a choice or was it just all about more monopoly lock in and bugger the user. Sure I have grown accustomed to that menu layout and GUI structure but by what right should any manufacturer attempt to force me to change and why should you deem it appropriate to criticise me for not wanting to make what is genuinely a illogical choice.
Most likely they are just resource shuffling. Way out of scale, completely unrealistic RTS games are very much dime a dozen. So they might be focusing their efforts on something with far greater cross market appeal like Diablo. As a subsidiary of Activision, they will have the eye on a much broader market, all you have to do is check out typical ISP sites and the kind of game servers they provide for customers (keeps traffic on network and cheap saves a bundle) and strategy games a definately in the minority, both in number of servers and users. While I am likely to buy something like Diablo there is no way I could tolerate yet another completely unrealistic makes no logical sense at all RTS.
The best teaching games is all about getting input from multiple sources. So fro any non-profit whose goal specially is to create a range of educational games, it is really all about infrastructure, not creating the games directly, but creating the management infrastructure to combine expertise from wide ranging sources, educational, child psychology and computer engineering.
Step one contact all universities around the world with the aforementioned goal and see which ones wont to participate in a shared collective effort, involving lecturers and students from across the globe, in all the applicable disciplines required to tackle the project. You then establish the communication links and drive the effort. A real long term effort but one that is far more likely to be actually productive.
In this case, they can go nuts here http://os.cqu.edu.au/oswinsdvd/, someone seems to have rummaged all over the web, looking for answers to that exact same question and even created a downloadable disc image, good work by Neville Richter.
I though the ribbon was much more about differentiating the M$ version from it's competitors and to create the impression that is was a new version and you were actually paying for something of value rather than throwing money away on a pointless upgrade. Added to that, I got the feeling 'IT'S A Trap' for any other company that copied it, patents and copyright etc.
So incorporate the features, for users who start out with M$ Office and want to swap but, please make it a plugin only. Big changes in UI really do kill productivity and it take months until you finally shift focus away from how you are using software back to what you are doing with it.
The only thing I would add to that list is redefining the title "The best free open source software for Windows and beyond . To really rate as the best they have to work on multiple platforms, so not just windows but also Linux, Mac etc.
I know it might be stretching it a bit but, if your rating the 'best', multi platform support really does extend the usefulness of the program.
For a tech site, what happened to incorporating at least one software language, Ruby.
Currently I get mu news from multiple sources, normally at least 10 with emails from 3, add to that ugh stumbleupon and even this site http://www.newspapers24.com/ (12,000 sources). So what they envisaging subscriptions to all of them, oh yeah, like that's going to happen. There is absolutely zero chance that I will pay for any news subscription, specifically because I do not and will not be tied down to one or two corporate for extreme profit, advertising as news site.
Hate to burst Rupert's bubble but typical mass media sites have very low reliability when it comes to the truth, and Murdoch's news sites represent some of the biggest most disingenuous and fraudulent liars, who not only distort the news but they also fabricate and hide the news.
What Rupert Murdoch is really saying is that his lawyers will be going on the offensive, so watch those links, content extracts and even quotes from Fox sites, they even want to be able to charge access to their B$ commentators.
Interestingly enough my two favourite news sites are http://www.bbc.co.uk/ and http://www.abc.net.au/, so bwah hah hah hah (they both have already been paid for). As for Fox news http://www.fauxnewschannel.com/ is the only version I bother with and, I even rate M$'s MSN sites and their associated sites, way, way ahead of anything associated with - not really - "News Corp" (the corporate equivalent of the Soviet version of Pravda).
Interesting about the average IQ at US universities but where in my post did I say I was American. In most other countries, if you grades are bad and you can't achieve the entry score, you will not get in regardless of how much money you have, so scoring high enough grades to get in the door pushes up the IQ requirement. Of course in Australia you only pay 50% of the fee cost as a loan that you only have to pay back if your income exceeds a pre-defined level, pretty much at least the kind of minimum wage you would expect a university graduate to achieve (without checking it typical degree around $16,000 start to pay back when income exceeds $38,000). I guess it sucks to be born poor in the US and trying to achieve a professional position.
Supply and demand, you are a flagrant liar, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_worker, what do you think foreign worker programs are all about, specifically artificially titling supply and demand so greedy arse holes can pay minimum wage or less while charging the consumer 2,3,4 even 5 times as much as they are paying. So lets have real supply and demand, no foreign worker program and companies pay the wage they really need to in order to attract workers, the truth, not the bullshit.
That is really a gross exaggeration. For a start the typical IQ for a university student is 125, 100 or less really don't even get a look in. There is no where in the world that modern marketing does not put down menial jobs and inflate the importance of qualified profession and this is spread through out mass media. Now c'mon how many parents tell their children from the earliest age that they want them to grow up to be labourers, cleaners or junk food professionals.
The reason they bring in 'cheap' labour from overseas, cheap, get it cheap, because the work fucking sucks and nobody wants to do that shitty work for shitty pay (pay people enough and they will be quite happy to do the most disgusting jobs, gonzo porn anyone). Now I have done many jobs, and weirdly enough I did enjoy the physical labour but, seriously fuck you if you think I would do that hard work for minimum wage. I know which were the easier jobs the professional ones with the higher pay versus brickies labourer, soldier, waiter (everyone else eating, drinking and smoking while I'm not, fuck you lazy buggers go find a buffet), production worker, fish cleaner (damn them freezers were cold numb ears, nose and hands were really irritating). I never look down my nose at people doing the crap jobs and yes they are way underpaid for the hard work they do.
It is hard to blame someone for feeling frustrated after running up a massive debt pursuing a career that from the earliest age via every message system possible has been told they must get a higher education and a professional job, otherwise you end up as a menial labourer, with no real hope of a future and it's your fault that you are exploited by the rich and greedy and an uncaring government and, by a whole bunch of stuck up arse holes who do have professional jobs and think menial works should be treated like shit on minimum wage and be thankful for it.
Nah, c'mon, everyone knows what happens if it had been a software fault rather than a hardware fault, you simply lie about it for the first few months, while you create a patch and, blame the software fault on user configurations, hardware, drivers and other applications, then secretly incorporate a fix in the next, bug 'er' security fix.
Weird isn't it, hardware costs more to design and far more to produce and it has real warranties not B$ fantasy warranties and is way more reliable to 'boot' (get it, heh).
Here is a hint, you want to know which product is the most reliable, RTFW, read the F*****G warranty.
The most reasonable definition of honest work is where you actually do less or an equal amount of work for the value of that work. Dishonest work is where say, someone else does the work and get's paid less than the value of that work, often significantly less than the value of the work, and you keep the difference, hardly working, get it.
Now as it happens the working poor often get demonised for not being good enough for anything else but the minimum wage because the exploiter of their labour is trying to hide their guilt not only from themselves but everyone around them ie. blame the victims.
Of course monitoring those you don't trust to be responsible especially with children is dumb, if they can not be trusted with children the why the fuck are the children left in their custody, what so it is easier to convict them when they beat the child to death. Perhaps it is the whole guilty until proven innocent ie. we believe you are guilty and are going to strip you of all rights of privacy and effectively punish you and even worse, your whole family will get punished along with you.
Last but not least, people who do end up at the bottom, who do spend their lives on welfare with nothing much to show for it, do not do it by choice, they are there because they are mentally incapable of dealing with modern society and it's excessive competitive preassure and they and especially their children should not be punished for it. They should simply be treated and cared for in a reasonable and humane fashion. Treat them like criminals and they become criminals, often very violent (mentally aberrant behaviour, get it) criminals and you have done their victims no justice by being a knee jerk reactionary rather than looking at the problem clearly and coming up with a sensible and more effective solution.
Hey, but if you want to wallow in crime and see everyone around you suffer, then go the violent society route, lock them up, make them suffer, humiliate them, turn them into them into bitter violent criminals who will kill to survive and then pat yourself on your back for that self righteous victory.
Closer to the reality and internet explorer is an intrinsic part of windows.
4) Give user access to internet explorer as a browser.
5) Deny user access to internet explorer as a web browser.
Internet explorer is part and parcel of windows and there are numerous elements of the operating system that you can't access or make use of without it. They designed it that way as part of the monopoly lock in. Having a ballot screen post operating system install just highlights the fact that internet explorer is already installed whether you want it or not and as part of the operating system itself there is a bias to internet explorer, just as there are biases built in for M$ office and M$ media player.
Now is that professionally played music or in reality is that professionally marketed music. Music you have to listen to because all the marketing tells you that if you don't listen to it and like it your are lame. Most modern music has become endless repeats and not very good ones where most of the money is spent on marketing than is spent on producing or distributing the music.
In the end for me, thanks to the RIAA et al I can hear the greed and shallowness behind the music and can't really listen to much of anything any more a lot of the stuff I though of as 'cool' I now recognise as empty marketing and peer pressure.
The reality is, what makes great music, is the environment you share it is and who you share it with, so yeah some of the best music you will ever 'enjoy' is drunken sing along ie. participatory music, that canned stuff is just music junk food, future elevator music.
In reality it is a normal business move. What it really is all about is getting you poorer customers to subsidise your richest customers. If you pay for the network maintenance cost as a percentage of your energy usage, obviously the more you use the more you pay. So separating out a connection fee as a fixed monthly cost means your poorest customers pay the same price as your riches customers and of course for the poorest customers the percentage cost of that connection fee becomes enormous as high as 50% and of course for the rich energy waster the percentage is minuscule say 0.5%.
It seems obvious that if governments are serious about energy wasters and ostentations polluters they should be looking for ways to make them pay more and for people who minimise their energy use and of course the amount of pollution they generate pay less. Why do corporate profits always seem to be at odds with conservative (as in conserving the planet's environment and resources) ideals.
Really to be polite, Apple could add a little logo to that software defining as open source and provide a link to the source code. So people can choose, either pick up the already compiled convenience version (the junk food equivalent of open source software) or go to another site and download the source. If you choose you can even download the source make some changes, upload it back to Apple and sell the it as long as you make the new code available as per the licence.
What is very interesting is that Apple has not done it itself and instead has allowed a small business opportunity to continue for FOSS coders, a surprising sound moral choice. I could think of another 'M'orally 'S'oft company that would be unlikely to be as generous.
Instead and looking at your preferences it analysis social interactions and establishes a method by which they can mimic those social interactions in order to what, manipulate your choices and future social interactions.
What is interesting is specially they are seeking to monitor non-customers ie. using customers as judas goats to analyse the behaviour of the people they contact. Reminds me of the whole g-mail thing, whose email is it, the person who sends it (a gmail customer), the person who receives it (a non-gmail customer who now has no choice as to whether some of their email is analysed) or the corporations that temporarily handles it.
It's like more and more companies are looking at the privacy invasiveness of facebook, google, M$ and seeking to spread it into every facet of human life, to what convert humanity into droid buy bots, the 21st century equivalent of consumers. Looks like we are going to need tools like this http://mrl.nyu.edu/~dhowe/TrackMeNot/faq.html#options not only to obscure searches but also to obscure email and even voip phone calls. So in the future 80% of your communications will not be genuine but random obscuring coms designed to regain your privacy by burying under a ton of obscuring, pointless and wasteful coms. It seems much simpler, simpler and more energy efficient to legislate back in privacy and respect for the individual, let's get some 'mind your own fucking business' back into the market.
So let me get that straight, people who develop games should be allowed to express themselves anyway they want to but other people should be forbidden from formulating their opinion or undertaking any kind of studies that might interfere with, what, the profitability of those games.
Gees, give it a rest, people will formulate all kinds of opinions, some will publish them, others will attempt studies to affirm postulations, they aren't a threat to your existence they just differ with your opinion and preferences.
Now just try to get you mind around all the trolls, demons, ogres, dwarfs, elves, harpies, dryads etc. and how they fit into the whole ethnic diversity thing, the mind boggles. So are imaginary beings overrepresented in computer games and should real people feel that are being discriminated against by not being properly represented in all games.
Blocking cell phones is the issue. The government and in fact most governments around the world, defined those frequency spaces as being an asset that could be sold, and that asset passed through all spaces ie. a government mandated seizure of the active use of those frequencies within all spaces public and private.
That sold clear access to that frequencies and the right to transmit into other peoples domains regardless of their preferences.
So jamming that frequency within your premises means you are stealing, that space which the government auctioned off to private parties without constraints or respect of your rights. Just because the transmission pass through your property in point of fact pass through 'you' does not me you own it or even have the right to control it. For that to happen you have to force the government to buy back the right to control and restrict those transmissions.
The corporations that bought your rights a fully legally entitled to prevent you blocking their use of what they have paid for or force the government to buy back the right to control transmission flow within the space you control and possibly even yourself. So what will the telecommunication companies, marketing organisations and lobbyists do when it comes to parents attempting to block the new wave of 24/7 direct marketing to children via mobile devices, do. Get them young, hook them in, buy, buy, buy, free cell phones and texting for children as long as they accept the adds. There are seriously big profits to be made by people who absolutely don't care about the damage done, in fact they take pride in being able to inflict that harm upon the rest of society, it speaks of their power.
More accurately that person lied about a personal condition in order to profit and then wants more fame by public announcing the deceit and proclaiming that based upon their lack of intellect, that 'all' people are unaffected by electro magnetic radiation, why, because this uninformed liar says so.
Here is an interesting example to review http://www.abc.net.au/http/sfist/cellrad.htm this is a wonderful example of how lies survive and grow based upon greed. It would appear that corporations will absolutely not fund any research that might have negative affects on their bottom line, unless whoops, research they hoped would assist in sales does the opposite, then the pretend it doesn't exist.
So cook away people and just think about the noble sacrifice you make to promote other peoples profit margins. So light up that smoke, drink that alcohol, eat junk food, live on a cell phone, wireless broadcast you existence, a soak up all those wonderful chemicals released into your environment, you'll be fine, no really, believe it because how can anything that generates a profit for the rich be bad for you.;D.
What is even funnier type is MS as a search, Bing returns http://www.mississippi.gov/ and google returns http://www.msaustralia.org.au/ (they tend to localise).
So why the fuck do the windrones keep harassing me for using M$, even when their own search engines doesn't recognise MS as being microsoft (it's not even on the first page) and I know the nearly every person on the globe recognises M$ :D

So light up that smoke, drink that alcohol, eat junk food, live on a cell phone, wireless broadcast you existence, a soak up all those wonderful chemicals released into your environment, you'll be fine, no really, believe it because how can anything that generates a profit for the rich be bad for you. ;D.
