Yeah Hydrogen is fucked, well and truly skewered, deceased, morte, a soon to be rotting corpse. Nearly every year, an announcement about better battery technology comes out, a new refinement, new materials all leading to greater storage capacity, more recharges and cheaper battery cost and it doesn't look like stopping soon https://www.eurekalert.org/pub..., hey look, hydrogen gas as waste.
People also forget corporation tend to go nuts suing hundreds of people. So lose one case, wham, lose them all and pay for all those court costs, so loser pays makes sound legal and moral sense. How those patents got approved is another thing. Clearly corporations should be able to sue the USPTO for allowing bogus patents through the system, if they can prove the patent should not have been approved, the USPTO should pay, for all associated costs of proving that patent invalid.
What confuses the gamer about articles like this. The mobile gaming market is not taking customers from the PC or console market, these phone gaming market is an addition to the gaming market adding revenue. The big overall numbers for mobile gaming hide the underlying hugely competitive market place, where games sell for next to nothing, are born, gain token market share (protected by a massive market so even tiny market share still means some revenue) and die in short order, every mobile game a momentary fad.
It didn't appear like that early in the mobile gaming market, it look like major market share was possible but it was just a shallow (not much depth for competition) young market and is now older and everyone is just trying to eat everyone else's lunch and they all go hungry.
Much like the micro-transaction market, a very limited customer base in reality mainly narcissists, the core customer, whose ego thrives on cheating is winning, when paying micro transaction fees for legal game winning cheats. Again eat each others lunch and whoops drive away regular gamer folk who wont play those games for long.
The original gaming market remains, with the same revenue potential, for quality games, the same dollars up for grabs. The mobile gaming market is entirely separate and they do not meet much at all, separate gamers and separate revenue piles. Same as microtransaction players, a seperate market, the PvP market, the purse vs purse market, which makes money by selling legal cheats. Different gaming markets for different gamers. Most of the shite developers will go to mobile because shite games, driving by marketing and hype to collapse in on themselves, after a moment with market share (they try it in real games but it just kills them as an accepted studio, so one shot hit thing).
M$ is of course killing PC gaming with windows anal probe 10, power players will not pay with their privacy or give away control of their PC to an truly arse hole corporation. So there is a market shift occuring in that PC gaming market Apple or Steamboxes or maybe even Sony will finally wise up and allow FOSS back on their consoles and even distribute it (what hurts their competitor helps them).
Not a shutdown, oh no, they are declaring bankruptcies to fend off civil suits, bankrupting companies, sticking people with bad debt and making sure they can not be sued, just normal operations for companies run by psychopaths. No shame, no sense of guilt, just more corruption on top of past corruption to lead to even more corruption. Of course if all of this can be proved to be purposeful with intent to defraud and hide income in tax havens, than those who run the companies can be targeted and if they are not, a sure and solid line of corruption to governments of the day, pretty much become self evident.
The law itself looks as strange as. I did not know it could be considered a criminal offence to disclose a password, seriously, what twit put that in there. Freedom of speech means, you are fully entitled to release passwords not necessarily keep your job but certainly claims of a criminal offence are insane. Also you can only access a computer for business purposes, like WTF, social media not allowed, workers social contacts a criminal offence. Let alone an empty 'active defence measures' without defining what an active defence measure are and what are acceptable and what are not and clearly the law is tied to one state. No matter how nuts they try to get with location of the crime, tying it to the residence of the business, regardless of the location of the attack, apparently anywhere in the world or the source of the attack anywhere in the world but it only refers to counties and not states or nations.
You can claim legal what ever you want in what ever crazy state of the US but it will get interesting when it affects other states and countries and whose law applies when, regardless of silly claims about the residence of the owner of the network and ignoring location of the network under attack and or the location of the attacking network.
It seems the real problem with autopilot design, is they are locked into it being a programming problem, rather than an environmental assessment problem. The easy part is the programming, that can be done entirely virtually. The really difficult part is assessing the environment, feeding information about the environment back into the system, so that the computers algorithms can pick the right path and the right speed. That's a real multifaceted engineering problem, quite complex. Likely a mix of sonar and infrared imaging. I would think a detection strip that completely encircles the vehicle at low, mid and high level is required, with spaced emitters, sending an unique digital signal and the entire strip picking up on it, for sonar. Infrared for longer range, with special note placed upon motion. Radar is problematic, you now ionising damage, so pretty much a no no. Lidar probably would work but needs to be kept clean.
Visual recognition would be cool but really quite complex and to make 100% reliable, super complex. Sonar makes the most sense, so study bats more before trying to design autopilot cars. A mix of fixed field sonar arrays and directed focus units, with infrared detection to absolutely make sure you are picking up living things.
More about designing the standards for making autopilots for cars, than trying to build it into cars. Standards first, then manufacture.
Ahh, so I see you have never suffered from a headache. You are aware you do not really feel pain in the rest of your body, you feel that pain, in your brain. You nervous system feeds those sensations back to your brain, so only the connections in your brain to that nervous system need to be intact to feel, literally anything, from you body being onfire, to being shredded in a mulching machine, of course anything except probably anything fun. The way to tell if the brain is alive is that it is in fact functioning and not brain dead ie not functioning. So yeah, it sounds pretty cruel and probably quite a questionable experiments. Those brains likely going brain dead as a result of extreme shock, a chemical shut down. Pretty fucking insensitive.
This story is not about computers it is about the labour trades. You know plumbers, electricians, carpenters not software coders. The problem is they need training and apprenticeships and need to know the rules and standards and need to be properly licensed. The problem is myopic corporate types do not want to pay for training, they do not want a long term work force, they way a disposable work force, more profit now, fuck the problems latter, some one else's problem. That is the problem that has to be solved.
There is a three for one solution that will work really well, which they will not accepted because less profit. That is the base unit of the military should not be infantry, they should be combat engineers, higher skills and higher training and they can be taught trades as part of that training, full apprenticeships. Rather than having them idle, more money can be saved by getting them to apply their training on government infrastructure projects. You have already paid their salaries, bought the equipment and so you only need to pay for the materials to complete major projects. See three for one, better quality more highly trained military. A lot of trained high skill labour available post military training. Major infrastructures projects done so much cheaper, with something like half to two thirds already being paid for in military expenditure.
Will they do it. Absolutely not, where is the opportunity for corrupt contracts, for millions even billions to be stolen in shonky corrupt deals, negotiated by lobbyists and paid for by campaign donations. Absolutely no way common sense can be served ahead of myopic insatiable greed, just not the American way.
I am still nursing along a note 3. I look after stuff, so it still looks like new, although it's protective case is starting to look pretty ratty and still the original battery, it tends to go from 100% to 50% pretty fast but runs like normal after that. Not likely to replace it with another note, don't really use the stylus that much and I will always go a user removable battery. Sometimes when you want to reboot the phone, it is so much easier to rip the back cover off and flick out the battery, then hold down the switch and wait and wait and wait. I have forgotten to switch the phone back on after reinstalling the battery on occasion, ah peace and quite for a few days, not a squeak from the phone. I tend to like to use the phone more as a portable computer, rather than have the phone use me, slave to the phone, ugh.
I tend to buy stuff from a reliable store closest to where I live. So if there are any problems, one phone call and an irate visit is enough to get the problem fixed within the hour. That is worth between 10% to 20% more to me. Cheap is rarely best and in fact more often than not it is the worst. I would buy from Amazon mainly because it was the only readily accessible supplier. So I might use it to look for products and then see if I could buy it locally and pick it up and whether the higher price is worth it, depending upon how much higher it is, taking into account delivery. Bought a bunch of portable hard drives to give away at Xmas, not empty of course, had a bad one and got it replaced within the hour, it was worth the extra money.
I hate that drawn out wait, to find out, whether or not it will be delivered, whether or not it gets delivered broken, whether or not it is defective and then all the hassles of trying to replace it, with the built in delays and claims I broke it et al.
The more expensive, the far more likely I am to buy it locally, reduce hassles is well worth the greater expense and I know exactly who I am dealing with, I have seen them, I have spoken to them, they are real people, not an empty computer program.
So apparently the only way to get your data actually deleted, sucker 'er' member or not, is to abuse the crap out of Facebook ie break all of it's community rules. So Facebook you lying pack of turd smuggling shit bagging privacy perverted fuck wit freak cunts, I hope when the 'space' aliens come, you anal retentive bunch of sick cunts get lined up against the wall and disintegrated first and that whilst they a disintegrating the crap out of Facebook executives and it's board, they steal all of Facebooks stuff and toss it into the Sun. I in my most humble way possible are requesting all space aliens to get onto this post haste. I hope that was enough to get me permanently deleted from Facebook.
How many of the bullshit rules (https://www.facebook.com/communitystandards/violence_criminal_behavior/coordinating_harm) do you really need to break to ensure that your data is completely deleted. Just in case, by the way you pack of dead dog dick sucking anus brains at Facebook (IMO), you should not need to run scripts and allow your fucking cookies to read community standard guidelines and seriously what the fuck "Acts of physical harm committed against animals except in cases of hunting, fishing, religious sacrifice or food preparation/processing", RELIGIOUS SACRIFICE, what the fuckity fuck fuck, how about a religion based around the sacrifice of the animals on Facebooks board and executive team, I suppose for some fucking reason, you fuckwits think that is OK, just as long as I wrap it up in a make believe religion. You morons, anyone can make up any fucking religion they want and start torturing animals to death, Facebook board and executives including, you are fucking animals too you know (not that I am recommending that to any humans, only 'space aliens', hey it's a religion, so fuck off Facebook).
Take any of this seriously and you are a disturbed as the dick brains at Facebook.
125" TV for $5,000, I'd buy that. We seem to have come up short at 75", going the next 50" seems to be problematic and it might be some time. Size counts, more pixels once to get to certain resolutions not so much, but a bigger screen, oh yeah and that's mainly for scenery, who needs to pay for a view if you can pipe one in. Although I would still opt for a better view but that is mainly because I have become used to one over decades.
Who the hell cares which car goes around corners faster when exceeding the speed limit. The compact/mid SUV much easier access and egress, better vision, far more effective loading area, in fact the most logical body shape for a car. The low end cars are very competitive and the compact/mid SUV leaves more price to play with and upmarket in fitments and more scope for batteries, flat bed front to back. Who knows, eventually a two door rag top mustang mid SUV.
You, I presume are an adult. The problem is they targeted minors in a manipulative fashion to scam them out of their pocket money, it could not be worse, except if they mugged passing prams for their milk bottle. It is really lame and socially ugly and custodial sentences should be appropriate, not long ones, just 90 days or so. The fine of course should be triple the estimated income.
Keyboards, coding software, making it easier for dual language, English/Regional. Of course it opens up English speaking countries to considerable influence from non-English speaking countries as those non-English speaking countries learn more English. So no technical or social benefit for English speaking countries, in fact English media will then come under considerable competition, sheer numbers. English is simply becoming the dominant trading language but will now be subject to 10 times the current number holding to alternate cultures. Expect a lot more 'new' words to appear in English over the next decades. Cultural words that have no English equivalent.
Appear to operate from a hose in Russia, well at least the last detected, point. Just highjack a server anywhere temporarily. Russian servers are good because the US is so desperate to play spy vs spy shit, they can not sit down with the Russian government and sort out some cross border computer crime investigation treaties. So by the time anything is done about the server, the hackers are long gone.
Of course any espionage agency, from anywhere in the world, could have been involved in this. Not directly, necessarily but simply corrupt employees making use of information provide, obtained via intelligence operations. Criminals, will be, criminals. Those who want to do this stuff for a living, under governments and of the nature to do it privately for far more profit. Agencies should check to see if their backdoors are being accessed not by rare random chance but a little too often.
Then of course you have all the tech corporations, these people who do not give a fuck about people's privacy or manipulating democracy, or censoring people who disagree with them, all the shit kind of behaviour. How many of those would participate at an 'Executive' level, consider the corruption, insider trading et at, you know they would and they most definitely have the capability, equal to the governments they contract too.
As the crypto craze expires, more and more criminal activity will become involved in it and it will become increasingly dangerous to be involved.
It is not identity theft, it is credit fraud and the idiot who accepted the fake identity should be prosecuted unless they can prove someone did provide a fake identity. The person who accept the fake identity is solely responsible for that failure to accurately confirm identity and should be liable for all harm and suffering caused to the person they cheated. The credit companies just waffle this shit, to shift liability and proof of innocence to the person whose identity was used, rather than the idiot who accepted the false indemnity and the credit companies for failure to provide proper security methods in place, to cheap and greedy.
No human spies does not mean no human analysts. It relates to not sending agents into other countries to conduct criminal activities, often in association with organised crime in those countries. Rather the insertion of electronic hacking devices. Depending upon how, small, how they obtain power, how effectively they can secret insert and how widespread those insertion are. The boundary of war, level hacking insertions, millions of device. That is high level and does not count the simple stuff like Windows anal probe 10 with targeted backdoors via unique updates. Of course all hardware and software supplied by any US company is expect to have back doors for overseas deployment.
This in preference to proper policing treaties, hence no need to spy but no war profits, who wants those.
A consistent lie. For a start, you asshats, you move the emissions from cities, where millions of people live, to remote regional centres where no one needs to live with in 10km of the power plant but then fuck people their are just overly expensive consumables. Next up power plants are considerable more efficient than an infernal combustion engine, no comparison at all but fuck efficiency, right, where the fuck is the profit in that. Who the hell modded that oft repeated stupidity up.
Do you remember when in the 50s and 60s when they dreamed of a 16 hour work week. Then psychopaths took over the system, corrupted democracy, corrupted main stream media, they dream of mass unemployment, labour housing camps and the gig labour force. Where the overseers with tasers and pepper spray, turn up to the labour housing camps, you know stacked hovels, and the workers bid for work, the lowest hourly wage bidder wins, hell they can just bid for three meals. Do not expect any different until you remove psychopaths from positions of governance, control and influence, it is their nature, their desire to control, to gloat, to pose over those in poverty, to exploit and abuse them to feed the psychopaths ego and lusts. Let the insane run the asylum and do not expect a society with good mental health. That is the only change that needs to be made and the majority will quite readily solve many problems.
If M$ were to drop the Windows anal probe 10 and forced software installs, that might help but I think the trust is gone and people will simply not buy any consumer level software from M$ they do not have to for existing compatibility. Games are keeping them afloat in the consumer market but that market hold is diminishing. They had better start being really, really nice to their customer base, otherwise there will be no recovery. I doubt it though, they are still driven by corporate arrogance and wont change until it is too late.
Typical major tech firm failure. That market dominance, rushes to their genitals and they have delusions of total power and promptly start pissing off their customers, only to build up hate and dissension and then wham, they start loosing customers in droves and simply can not get them back. Alta Vista, MYspace, MSN, Yahoo, Lotus Software, all the same end, market dominance, engorged genitals, no blood to the brain, ego dominates over common sense and customer resistance builds whilst arrogance and ego demands it be ignored, until it is too late.
It looks like https://duckduckgo.com/?q=%22s... (two for one, heh heh) are the new upcomers, that will dethrone the arrogant egoists. Maps will be the next target, as will Android or oddly enough Android might well fork in an odd way as Google try to force their own proprietary core.
Easy, people will demand to interact with people. You want to keep a human employed refuse to interact with an AI, easy. Your choice, you set the rules.
Always look at stuff from the professionally paranoid point of view (not an insult, gees they get cranky, just the nature of the job, you have to be professionally paranoid). The US governments wants to use entirely corrupt security letters to put back doors in security software sold to foreigners. Immediately they will suspect foreign governments of doing the same thing, the US does it, why wouldn't Russia or China do it. It has to be careful how it tackles this though, a blanket ban on foreign security software would generate a blanket ban on US security software and wipe out the security letters and back doors, mind you this includes stuff like M$ windows updates, which are now individually packaged, a specific user's computer get a specifically targeted update (only for high level hacks but will get caught if that computer is already being monitored by local intelligence agencies, change in traffic). It would be much cleaner to simply blanket ban all foreign security software and entirely reasonable to do so but the messy bit about US software being banned by foreign countries for exactly the same reason, forces this messy rubbish with Kaspersky. They will be banned one way or another, they will just have to accept that and the Russian government will ban US/EU security software for the same reason.
The only way out, open source the code and any updates and the updates must be served locally, only after the code for the update has been supplied and verified (so you can image open source security software becoming part of FOSS distributions to simplify the issue for everyone). Should the Russian government decide to be really mean, they can simply review copyright law and shorten copyright protection to 25 years from date of first publication and that will hurt the US by far the worst and many other NATO countries will also feel the brunt of that (UK/France). People would just source 60s, 70s and 80s content out of Russia (keep in mind, current movies demonstrate that music from those eras are much more popular than the autotune crap of the last couple decades and movie and TV series have similarly crapped out apart from the odd few exceptions). Of course China would join in, they are not really pleased with the US either and other partner countries would follow suit. So 2018 - 25 = 1993, so youch, makes the Kaspersky ban a joke in comparison and does not hurt Russia and China any where near as much as the US, a tiny fraction in comparison. US want's a trade war, it shouldn't be surprised 'when' it gets kicked in the copyright licence fee crown jewels, software as well. This US would lose far more in copyright licence fees than the entire rest of the world combined.
They can fend that off with a blanket ban on all foreign security software and simply not mention Russia or Kaspersky. Of course Russia and China could still simply extort 'er' bargain the 'Trump' way, to get greater cooperation from the US with the threat of the downward revision of copyright laws (originally 14 years, so very hard to diplomatically argue about 25 years but the money gone, wow, not just revenue but the valuation of assets, from billions to ZERO and that would also hurt the US dollar, a lot).
No simpler answer to the question than this. Rusty iron, preserved for aeons, not a problem at all. Sure the iron won't be there, but the rust will and in concentrations that would be wildly abnormal. Sure ice age settlements have been buried beneath the seas, after having been crushed and ground in the surf zone as sea level rose. Of course rapid rise, caused by periodic significant methane events, would help bury and preserve artefacts below rapid sedimentary discharge, but no real effort to plot ice age river mouths and core sample down current sediments, this more for timber and clay societies.
No examples of clustered rust deposits preserved by normal fossil style replacement of original material, covered over by different sedimentary material and they would have to be quite substantive and could not be missed. Simple reality, the earth remained primitive until such time a cyclic climate change game preference to mental evolution over physical evolution. The ability to wear the fur of animals who struggle to physically evolve to climate change occurring over tens of thousands of years and of course the ability to barbecue them animals over a fire, this allowed enduring dominance over any locale, regardless of climate change, that just resulted in change of diet.
River mouths are still the best bet to find, early man, barring cyclic ice ages over the past couple of millions of years, likely caused by an orbiting debris cloud from a major impact. Fresh water, fresh water prey and vegetation, salt water prey and vegetation and the surrounding country side, and of course boats far easier to master than a animal drawn carriage.
For intellectual evolution to take precedence over physical evolution, there must be repeated short term cycles, relatively speaking, that give preference to mental adaptability over physical evolution, that initial kick. We are an ice age species, not a non-ice age species, the bulk of time we developed was during ice ages, not periods like the current warm period. It brought us into being and then periodically kicked our societal arses upon a regular basis. Not so much the ice age or the warm period but the transitional period from one to the other. No society can resist a 120 odd metre change in sea level, especially not a coastal society, periods of which were way faster than measured in centuries.
