  6. Rock on on Windows iTunes Sells A Million Songs In 3.5 Days · · Score: 1
I'm a Mac user and have purchased a few songs off of the iTMS and I often find myself holding back just because it's so easy and $.99 doesn't really sound like all that much though it can add up.

And as much as I like watching Steve Jobs' keynote speeches I think the whole "Best Windows Application Ever" thing is just a dumb thing to say. It sounds funny during his keynotes when he occasionally rips into Windows, but seeing it on the frontpage of apple.com just makes me roll my eyes. It's fine if he boasts about Apple software that runs on a Mac but anything else just sounds too presumptuous.

As for people calling the 10 Burns for one playlist an arbitrary restriction I really don't think it'll be an issue with most people because how many times do you really burn a copy of a CD? And as others have pointed out, you can then just copy that first CD can't you?

  7. I can't wait on "Star Wars: Clone Wars" coming to Cartoon Network · · Score: 2, Interesting
I for one can't wait for these shorts, though I am with the people who wish that they would be longer.

I think Genndy Tartakovsky was a great choice to make these shorts because he has a great handle on stylish animated action. Watching "Samurai Jack" also reminds me of a lot of anime notably "Rurouni Kenshin" with the split screen action and cinematic framings.

In an interview Tartakovsky said that he made "Samurai Jack" largely because there weren't enough animated shows with enough action to satisfy his tastes. And thank god for that decision because the action scenes in "Samurai Jack" are enormously entertaining with their sense of pacing and their build ups.

Since the only really interesting things that happened in Episodes I and II were the action scenes anyway I think this is definitely a good thing. We really don't need a lot of plot because it's not like that's the strongest aspect of the prequels anyway.

Seriously, the idea is cool and all but for the serious collector how the hell do they think that we're going to store all these irregularly shaped boxes? The freakin' Warner Bros. snap cases are annoying enough as it is and they're the same essential shape of most DVD cases.

  9. Sad but true on Where is the Any Key? · · Score: 1
Too bad there's no way to have a FAQ on where the power switch is. Having that FAQ on the internet would kind of defeat the purpose. But I'm sure a lot of tech support people would have fewer gray hairs if people knew how to turn on their computers.

Dumbest question I ever got was a person who thought in order to copy Photoshop files to her disk she had to open them in Photoshop and then go to "Save As..." for each individual file. I'm like "Uh no, you can just drag them."

It has potential, it would certainly be a lot of fun to see stuff like the Camelot scene performed live.

But what I'm more interested in is how on earth they're going to end it?

They can't really have a cameraman being bumped into by the press or something because that particular 4th wall doesn't exist onstage.

Maybe they'll have policemen storm the aisles and evacuate the theater.

  15. Kind of disappointing on RIAA Settles With 12-Year-Old Downloader · · Score: 1
I must admit that when I heard that this case was settled so quickly that I was really disappointed.

Though I understand that these people don't seem to be the type who would want to be on the forefront of something as controversial as all this music downloading stuff. From the articles it sounded like they just made an innocent mistake and just didn't understand everything they were doing.

I guess what irritates me the most is the way that the articles on the settlement read. The quote about how realize now that filesharing is bad just makes me picture someone in the RIAA curling his mustache in victory.

Because really suing a 12 year old child and hundreds others who could be equally ignorant of their situation is also really terrible.

Regardless there should be a large backlash against the RIAA. (One can only hope).

Though I think technology like this will really make a difference because there are only so many practical applications for speeds of 3Ghz, yet there are still issues in a computer's speed such as loading time that don't usually get much attention

So now what would the next step be?

I for one am wondering when we'll reach the instant gratification of Star Trek computers, but that's just 'cause I'm a geek that way :P

  24. Sounds interesting on Bruce Schneier on Security Tradeoffs · · Score: 5, Interesting
The whole security thing is very flawed on a number of levels, some of them political.

We've all heard the absurd stories like a woman being forced to drink her breastmilk (in bottles) to prove it wasn't some type of explosive or whatever the hell they thought it could have been.

Yet I remember reading on Michael Moore's website about how right after 9/11 he noticed that despite the fact that nail clippers weren't allowed on planes, matches and lighters were because the Tobacco industry had complained to the government that not allowing matches doesn't allow their customers to light up once they get off the plane.

Later they were put back on the list of prohibited items but it's stuff like that which makes the whole security thing seem totally absurd sometimes.
