Bankruptcy is just a social safety net. What if someone sued you for $5 mil and won on something that wasn't really your fault. Assuming you dont have $5 mil, you can go bankrupt, suffer for a few years and you're out. Otherwise you would have to sell yourself as a slave or something else just as stupid:)
These types of things are normally put on highways.
Q: What kills on highways? A: Drowsyness, not speed!
Sure, in Victoria there are signs that say things like "Power nap now!" etc but its not like the cops can have "drowsy camera's"...if they could then I think it would be appropriate.
People *think* that when you type in a search and the previous search history comes up is a cookie. We know better of course:)
I had a mate who I convinced to use firefox and he complained that these "cookies" were staying there even when he told FF to remove them! Heh, the public have no idea sometimes:)
That is awesome. I have been wanting a no-frills no-media keys NORMAL keyboard.
Those MS keyboards are sooo stupid. They decided to group the F-keys in groups of 3 rather than 4, the delete key is twice as big as it should be and i HATE it when I go to press insert and I click Print Screen instead...GRRR
This will be very interesting. I think MS's plan is to release before the PS3 no matter what. However, they may be cutting off a lot of potential sales and cause the PS3 to leap ahead when it launches.
At the end of the day it will be IBM that wins regardless:D
I don't know much about the US tax system. Wouldn't it be possible to say that the COGS was $300 and you sell it for $500 normally?
Of course, the COGS would be closer to 20c unless you include the overheads of making the initial product. Er, can't they just fudge the figures a bit and make it look reeeaaallly expensive to make VB.net?
As I said I don't know anything about the US tax system.
hehe, I was thinking about applying the LP solving technique to these types of games but they made it difficult...For example, in warcraft 3, there are different types of armour and "attacks". So you have to choose which type of armoured and attack units to make. I am very certain that Blizzard looked at the linear space and made sure that the constraints in the system all had the same n-dimensional slope.
A few years ago, I looked into it for night elves and that was the case for a few units.
Either way, if the game did have some inbalance, you *could* find it if you could be bothered:)
There are way too many applications to list here. Ill give you an example though. Say you are a company that produces Chairs and Tables. You sell chairs for $10 and tables for $20. It costs you 5 units of wood to make a chair and 8 units of wood to make a table. It costs you 2 units of labour to make a chair and 3 units of labour to make a table.
Now say you have a certain amount of wood and labour to "spend", how much of each product should you produce to max yield, min waste, min cost, max profit...All different objectives give different answers.
This is a simple example that can be solved without simplex but if you were to scale it up to 1000 products with 3000 resources to be split, it can still be solved with the simplex algorithm.
I have written my own simplex solver and they are tricky but the basic algorithm is elegant.
Of course, the example I gave above is only one and there are many applications in the area of Operations Research (thats not my field btw).
I am actually doing part of my PhD on Linear Programming and the Simplex method. This guy was very smart to come up with what he did!
The real world application that the simplex method has is HUGE. I think he has made everyones life a little bit better although most people wouldnt realise it.
The last person that cut my hair was a scottish woman. She said that she was put at the front of the immigration queue because she is a hairdresser.
I think part of the problem is that people dont want to be an apprentice because you get paid hardly anything for the hours you do before you become qualified....the thing I dont get is that you have to pay to go to uni!? Having said that, I would rather have a uni degree (and I do) but having a trade is going to mean a gauranteed job!
Haha, you sound a bit bitter! Although what you are saying is sort of true. The fact is, there will be a lot of unemployed people who dont even know what OSS is so they are the ones who have to do all the other work-for-the-dole stuff.
If I were to be unemployed, this is exactly what I would do! Imagine having all this spare time (since you have no job) to work on any OSS project you want.
Having said that, the dole (what we call welfare here) is pretty low. I think its about 100USD a week? (for all those US people ou there)
I know about that but you should be a little more rational with socialism. I don't really care though:) I like my country, you like yours, we're all happy and we can all be friends:D
I find it weird that Americans are so "anti-communism" as if its an evil thing. It's not that bad at all! Of course, I personally don't think it would be the best way to solve the problem of unlimited wants and needs with limited resources. Software is a bit different because it can be duplicated an unlimited number of times for next to no cost.
Anyway, lets look at it: -OSS: Its communism because everyone works on it for nothing! ner ner. -Proprietary: Its communism because its all designed from the middle and given to the masses even though they may not like it and have no control of it. ner ner...
I am Australian but I have lived in the US for 6 months and I discovered that the US is unbelievably capitalist with a huge FEAR of anything socialist. Here in Oz, we have a mixed economy that is predominately market but has some socialist aspects such as unlimited welfare (the dole) and free health care (medicare). It think its a good balance.
Anyway, my point is that we should have a BALANCE of OSS and proprietary software.
I have no invites. I had 6 a long time ago. I gave them away and now I have 0.
:D
I don't really care though since I have my 2523 MB

Thats funny. I live in Adelaide and whenever a vic comes here they say that we are bad drivers? :) haha
I think it just has to do with personal experiance.
They also use Magna's (Diamante in the US?). Since commodores and falcons are the most common car in Oz, you cant really tell usually.
These types of things are normally put on highways.

Yeah, they are testing the same thing in Victoria..."the place to be" (that's their state slogan btw)
It's obvious that this isn't for saving lives but for revenue.
I live in South Australia (thats the name of the state, they werent that original when the pohms came here :)
Anyway, we now have speed cameras on traffic light intersections and any random car parked on the side of the road *could* be a speed camera.
In Victoria (where Melbourne is), they are even more tough. As soon as I cross the border to Vic, I don't speed at all.
So the answer is "yes", they are very very trigger happy and in a lot of cases, there was no trigger, just an automated photo.

Ahh, that's my rant for today

So that means that it DOES run on linux? yay!...err Sorry, had to be done :)

I have one of those too. It was the first phone I could buy that had Java support.
One thing is, the Nokia has a monochrome screen and a lot less features. So you would naturally expect the Motorolla to use more Juice anyway.
I think the point of the post was to say "hey, a linux phone that doesnt suck"
I may get one of these if they come out in Oz...my Nokia is getting a little old.
"Some of the features common in most notebooks are longer-lasting batteries, CD burners and wireless capability"
:) haha
No one who visits slashdot would know that!
Sorry, I just found it funny.
Since I haven't published anything on it I don't want to talk about it :)
Hehe, but I am adpopting the simplex algorithm to make it do something else.

Yeah, that's so right!
btw, for all of those non-aussies out there, Oz=Australia. When we pronounce "aus" in our accent it comes out like "oz".
Thats exactly it! Slack dole bludgers! :)
