I've been reading up on Windows vs Linux for a while now, while I weigh the pros and cons of switching to linux from windows...
I read a few articles that mentionned Xandros, which allegedly creates a partition on a WinXP hard-drive for itself... And a friend of mine told me this was not advisable, as it can create problems if data was ever written (and/or deleted or still exists) on the part of the HD that Xandros intends to use... then puts in a dual boot in the system.
Is this true or has Xandros and distros (can you tell me which other distros do this?) with a similar function become so good they eliminate all possibility of problems arising from such a configuration?
modern construction (apart from some cheap warehouses) doesnt use simple concrete walls.
in a modern building you need insulation, electrical wiring, plumbing, etc.
I only see this kind of concrete being used as part of a specific decoration or artistic scheme.
The first thing I thought of when I saw this was, this could make a very interesting above-ground pool.
Besides, if you are looking at getting more light from the Sun into your building/house/whathaveyou, a friend of mine who is studying in photonics mentionned that a lot of people are working on optic fiber networks that would do just that, from a solar collector outside, to light fixtures inside.
I usually play on one of the official Atari/Epic East servers, where I find people with low ping.
I doubt that people from overseas could have low ping on an Eastern US server. I'm in Ottawa (Canada) and I have a high ping on the official Atari/Epic West servers, so...
the issue is not so much about ripping as it is about "decrypting" protected DVDs.
so the question is, does fair use apply to decryption? clearly, if you RTFA, it doesnt, since Makayama removed the decryption function from the software in order to be able to market it in the US following the DVD X court ruling.
I prefer being ignored by someone with headphones on than by someone putting their index fingers in their ears and yelling "I CANT HEAR YOU LALALALALALALAAAA".
I found some good soup recipes, allegedly decyphered from soups made by the real Soup Nazi guy who inspired the Seinfeld character, at

my favorite is the Indian Mulligatawny. I've made it a few times, and I found it to have the exact same taste if you put less water and cook it at least 3 hours. Also I think it doesnt have enough curry so I add a bit more. It also tastes a bit better if you liberally add shredded chicken to it.
with extended and superextended versions coming to DVD, I bet that in the future, they'll just release the total raw footage in the Cut-N-Edit-Yourself-At-Home DVD version, just so you can prove you can make a better version than the director's.
"civil forfeiture is the DEA's main means of funding these days"
I dont know where you get your info... I googled to find the DEA's budget, and the best info I could find was that for 1998, the DEA requested $1,145,830,000 in direct funding from the GVT.
That's a lot of money.
That sum includes pay and benefits to 7,216 positions, of which 3,358 are Special Agents; along with an enhancement of 382 positions (168 Special Agents) and $87,042,363 in new program initiatives... it represents an overall increase of $91,812,000 million over DEA's 1997 appropriation level.
So you seem to be implying that since then, the DEA has an imperative to seize the equivalent of a large portion of its operating costs to guarantee that no one loses their jobs within that department?
Now imagine if the US had a SEA (Spam Enforcement Agency)...
thanks for your opinion. I'm not a Windows newbie... I patch my system whenever MS releases them, I keep my drivers up to date and I go through all the diagnostics everytime. I also read and implement those Windows tweaks which I think will help me.
From reading the threads here at slashdot, I came to believe that Linux was more stable than Windows, which is why I'm looking at a switch right now.
Just from the installation size of the distros, Linux seems less "heavy" than WinXp... Is it THAT much harder to configure?
In India, they have "arranged marriages"!
If that doesn't motivate you, I don't know what will...

why didnt you get her to open the phoneline account with the phone company in the first place, so that her name would be on the bill?
what if an added feature was added to email systems?
specifically, what if you removed the need for the @ in email addresses (while keeping systems backward compatible)?
wouldnt that complicate things for harvesting programs?
there was a nipple scene in Spider Man? must've been the European edition... :(

pharmacists can decipher even the weirdest scribbles written by doctors...
ask them how they do it
no one would allow those experiments on dogs, because dogs are "cute", to paraphrase Dennis Leary ripping off Bill Hicks.
And doing those experiments on monkeys would make people afraid of Planet of the Apes becoming a reality.
what is that red flame-shaped thing that the robot is holding in his hand in the photo? some kind of strange kungfu weapon?
about the Son of Star Wars program favored by GW Bush is that at the very least, it WILL have one use:
Shooting down space spam.
(probably not, but it's fun to imagine it)
I've already blocked Russia ip adresses from sending me email.
I dont know anyone there, yet the security department at Microsoft.ru kept sending me friendly patches attached to their messages.

I havent been to a public library in years, but some people told me they do lend movies.
Their selection apparently is not as good as the local video rental store though.
Dunno if US public libraries do that too, though.

I found that the Unreal Tournament 2004 demo is best played between 2-5am Eastern Time (local), when all the younger players (ie kids) are sleeping.
but I would love to have a ST:TNG-like computer interface.
"Computer, lock on Carrie Ann Moss and beam her to my hottub."
"Unable to comply"
"KHAAAAAAAAAAANNNN!!!"
(sorry.)

The black market revenues for hard drugs is in the billions as well, yet no one praises its economic benefits outside of criminal circles.
