books and dead authors means your not buying his latest release. While I liked Brin's uplift books, LOTR ranks a wee bit higher in my estimation. So then does Nivens' Ringworld, Asimovs' Foundation, and Herberts' Dune.
We meet every Sat and play Old school with figures, NWN does not even get close... I've been playing table top rpg since the early 70's and computer RPG's since my commodore 64. I appreciate everyones attempt to correct my opinion but I wasn't looking for support, just voicing my overall displeasure with the game, and before anyone asks yes I have made several very popular mods and ran a persistent server for quite sometime so I know what I speak of regarding the scripting language. They are getting closer with AI but even 2 DM in a game cannot keep up with PC conversation or control the NPC's in a reasonable manner. The # of lines of code needed to get an intelligent monster to behave in such a manner is HUGELY overblown. Throw in a an NPC with spells and you might just as well have the GM controlling all the NPC's.
Sigh...I do spend hundreds of hours, but the scripting ability in NWN will not ALLOW even a fraction of that to be put into play. I agree about the previous games, but NONE of them EVER CLAIMED to be an ENGINE to PROVIDE an RPG experience for PLAYER made content. As a traditional RPG NWN is quite nice, as what they advertise it to be it is a pile of crap, that WEB RPG makes look silly.
arch ? What would be a great article, is a little background and some information on it and the changes that will be coming, if such info can be had without an NDA violation...
this year just because the quality is not there. A port of of a tired console view locked 1st person shooter, or another old RTS just doesn't do it for me. The console audience has A MUCH LOWER expectation of a game, in replayability and life-span. In fact Metroid Prime is the ONLY console based game that has even interested me in a looong while, but some moron decided that being locked to a single platform was a good selling point for it ?!?!? I realize that the console is becoming the development platform of choicve but that means the games are scaling down to console requirements and the rest of us just deal with it:( If CDV would actually support their game, Divine Divinity is a great RPG, but it is quest broken and buggy now and CDV/Laran are totally non-responsive to support issues. UT 2003 was a tired rehash of a previous game that lacked any of the 'FUN' factor of the previous versions. Heck there are still WAY more UT servers than UT2K3, and not likely to change.
speaking from past experience YES it is. Even though it seems small the MARRIED THING is DIFFERENT. Enjoy the Honeymoon cause things have changed DRASTICALLY and you won't realize it for a couple of months. The changes are not all for the worse by any means, but A-CHANGING YOU WILL BE...It is women's nature to seek to 'improve' her mate for her children's sake, and man's nature to just deal with it:)
I really have to agree with you..the ruleset is whacked, they did NOT even get close to making it 3rd ED D&D. The toolset is neat in a very superficial, and limiting way. The hundreds of hours needed to actually transfer an original idea into their scripting makes it VERY much NOT WORTH the effort. If you actually expect to RolePlay give it up. If you want a gauntlet like experience and a very simple roleplay environment it might do the trick. But any actual character development or spontaneus roleplay is impossible in this game.
Don't let this stop you, just keep in mind, when the stranger calls you, or sends you an email asking for you account name, password, creditcard numbers, and bank routing number....IGNORE IT.
Only foolish people are getting caught in this scam, much like more traditional con artists. It is sad but everyone should take a moment to talk to their grandparents about how to avoid this stuff, and then go on about our ways.
I have covad sdsl 768 via megapath. I was a long time pac bell dsl customer but the 45 min wait times for support got really annoying. Megapath answers the phone quickly and has covad standing by in less than 5 mins usually. My speed is rock solid but it is more expensive.
eat, and where else would a person on the run who can't use a legal SS# or identity work, but a low end job, no offense to any retail clerks out there, I was one during school too.
Wonder if we could write this guy in on the NHL all star ballot:)
Yeah and your point is ? M$'s windows OS have a greater share of the market than UNIX as well but you don't see corporations ditching their mid range unix 10K machines, or tossing out the AIX boxes for it do ya ? It would be hard to imagine anything having a less share of the market than OS/2. As I said the only way to get at it is to have an enterprise contract with IBM and say 4 or 5 Mainframes running VM/MVS/ZLinux, but I still stand by my statement, I've seen an OS/2 SNA gateway stay up and running for 365 days 24 hours a day, pushing BILLIONS of $$'s in transactions on a platform that is 15 years old, I'd get killed if I even suggested we move to a M$ platform:)
that works great for a local session, I use reflections as well, but try running 3 or 4 millions Tansactions per minute down that pipe and soon it will redrive and fail.
point to anything manufactured that has increased in quality in the last 10 years beyond american cars, and that is only because there was no way for the US car manufacturers to actually get any worse.
too true, but IMS and CICS on mainframe are still an integral part of the ATM system, and these subsystems have tcp/ip connectivity issues. Bottom line you are right, eventually it will go away but I forsee cheap banks holding on to it until the last possible moment. Heck it was only 4 or 5 years ago we migrated from a pdp-1170:)
We tested Microsoft's sna server but to many times an sna retry would go unanswered and reboots of the server and controller were required. IBM OS/2 to IBM SNA connectivity seems to work much smoother.
around here in a long time. Stores had them removed because the were being used for drug deals, and here in California everyone over the age of 8 has a cell phone:)
and will continue to be supported on enterprise contracts by IBM. It is used in financial applications extensively and is STILL more solid than any windows app. They use it because of legacy applications that connect to mainframe computers via SNA with M$ won't or can't support but OS2 does nicely. It will be a LOOOONNNNG time before they find anything else. The large financial institution I work for has gone so far as to purchase and store source code with IBM's blessing for use in the future, under license of course....
I was a medium skill player is a high skill clan and I can honestly say I saw several of the top 5 UT players in the world go at it, at NGI once and WOW, even watching them play was tiring, and they did things so automatically that I was sure some of them were BOTS in real life.
I've run servers for a consortium of sysadmins for 4 years now, UT, Half-Life, CS etc.
There is NO DOUBT there are cheats out there but they are RARE. more than 95 % of the complaints lodged with our group turn to out to be false. But every now and then you get a true script kiddie who actually gets off winning by cheating. The only good thing is broadband has given people an IP that sticks for at least a week generally, so a ban actually can annoy them. With UT we bann by UID as well, so at the worst you have to re-install the game.
What if these guys are identifying themselves as employees and they get out of line, or give advice that causes damage ? Granted the chances of that happening are slim, but that is how a corporate lawyer thinks. Another possibilty is a former employee with a score to settle posing as a support person.... It is really sad that it comes to this, when in reality I've gotten help from covad tech's on DSLREPORTS before, and several times I've gotten help with advanced router functions from some really sharp people there...
be surfing without supervision, but the point is well taken. My big fear is that the kids will be turned loose in there and profiled and marketed to like no other audience.

Doh, I need to go back on vacation...Only a single device can speak down a channel at a time, reading back over my post I even confused myself. A dual channel ide controller theoretically supports 4 devices, 2 per channel, allowing only one of those device per channel to speak at one time. So if you had 4 disks you could only get 2 of them at any one point, or if you raid them 1+0 I think acrossed both channels you could get a performance boost accessing a single logical volume. Now I am guessing but haven't found proof that the SATA spec, allowing only a single device per cable does not have this limitation ? The card I have supports SATA but the disks I've got don't, so all I am getting is cooler smaller cables using an adaptor at the disk side. I could not even find any disks that supported the SATA interface yet....soon I hope...

OMG I forgot METROID....he does ROCK :)
comment. Not that it made Zelda any less fun but the story was merely by-product for the running and jumping, just like any other nintendo game.

Wholesale pirating and distribution is BAD. This is the kind of thing the RIAA SHOULD be pursuing and is the reason for them actually exsiting.
