    Well said...this is NOT a push for AMD but a push for interoperability of 64 bit devices.
    The worst of possible outcomes would be Palladium on Itanium. New DRM hardware that requires all new code....a farking nightmare.

    We have 200 servers in the R&D lab in here in just one site. 7 domestic production sites and 4 international and a staff of 16, to support client testing, development, QA, and deployment. The service packs and required security patches alone was eating up more than one person.

    If that were true they'd have code...maybe not what would work but at least some code. If they've not produced anything, and NOT come asking in 6 months then it is time to wish them luck in another field.

    I can't argue that, the focus of the report was a bit shaky, but the source moved my management in a way that flames from the machine wouldn't. We have a policy but the manpower to keep up with MANY IIS patches is undoable. We spend MUCH less time maintaining the apache server than we did IIS.

    That single report did what 2 years of lobbying by me wouldn't. 2 days after they recommended seeking alternatives I was directed to begin loading Apache :) Today we use apache and IBM websphere, and IIS require a SVP approval and a rigorous security exam :)

    Following that incredible success story, a linux development team has been started and they are working on SAN connectivity issues now. The age of M$ computing as a server solution is coming to a close. They 0wn the desktop still but I don't support those :)

    do you beleive everything the government says ? We all know the NEVER LIE, or say mis-represent the truth to acheive their goals. I personally think the national guard is plenty capable of helping out in a disaster recovery situation. What are the special forces going to bring to the table, a great mouth to mouth technique ? In the event of a terrorist attack, the military should be securing our borders while the MILITIA, the government is trying SO HARD to dismantle should rise up and defend the home front. The states rights are at issue here. The ability to use federal forces by passes or over-rides NUMEROUS states rights issues and allows the so-called elected officials in washington to blatantly disregard the will of the people they are supposed to represent even further.

    Think for yourself...Even paranoid fear mongerers have enemies.

    one of them out of the closet we've locked them in. They do serve a nice function, the building blueprints look good but that about it, and we have to listen to them attempt to convert people constantly if we let them roam freely :)

    Of course my bandwidth and server storage are already broken down by cost per MB/transfered and cost per MB/stored.

    My company has installed Sametime on nearly 75,000 desktops and it is rapidly becoming the standard means of communication. We've customized the code the ensure logging and multi channels, but it IS the best app we've deployed in house in a long time. Sametime is interoperable with AIM by default, though our firewall blocks it. I use Jabber and it logs into ICQ, and Yahoo messenger for me, and with its much more flexible port requirments it can be mapped thru the fire wall :)

    If AOL is stupid enough to lock themselves off from the rest of the world so be it. Let them go the way of the dinosaur. Here in northern califonia, eastbay I hear nothing but complaints as their number of pops has shrunk dramatically in the last 2 months, even die-hard clueless Mom AOL'ers will get fed up with busy signals QUICKLY.

    try ridiculous, but that is beside the point...How long till these are hacked and it reports exactly what you want it to report. Gee Junior never exceeded the speed limit once, I think he should get an allowance raise :)

    Now for the obligatory...Imagine a beowulf cluster of these...and Does it run Linux, or how soon till we've ported it over.
    Will a virus cause your car to report you driving at 900 mph and ensure that hackers will 0wn your driving record ?

    except HP employees...

    HP makes crap except for there high end Unix systems. An HP PC is nearly the worst, low end components, allowing no upgrade. HP printers USED to be decent, but they are now cheap plastic crap that breaks if you look at meanly. Lexmark printers blow away anything HP has put out in a long while, and there are several lines better than that...The ones I feel sorry for are the old compaq support folks, who now get to service and support the wonder HP desktop...arghhh that would be enough to make me go look for another job.

    err is the US the ONLY example of capitalism...no, how about the rest of industrial nations ? ALL practice capitalism is some form or another, as to your point, IT IS valid, confidence in the system is lower than it has been since the crash in the 20's, but even then people still believed the government was there to help them. Today I fully believe that the governments SOLE purpose is to make a $$ for its' coprporate handler, and the overall good of the people and the state is totally lost in the for profit rush.

    As if the fact that ISO would no longer recognize JPEG as a standard would affectthe WIDE spread user base already in place.

    Do you think ISO not recognizing it is gonna cause millions of web masters to take them down, or stop millions of browsers from seeing them ? This is silly hot air and rhetoric by the ISO. It is like saying they are gonna revoke the standard on the wheel and expect everyone to stop using it....

    Damn Speakeasy won't even talk to me about what line speed I can get until I have severed my contract with Megapath ?!?!?! What a crock, what if they can't or won't support the set-up I have now, it will be to late then. I'd like to look into them but this kind of scratch the other ISP's back BS makes me ILL. It's my line but they can't talk until Megapath releases me ?!?! Fark em all

    thanks..I am on Megapath SDSL with covad now, but Megapath service has started to deteriorate severely in the last month and they refuse to address the problem. I am gonna be leaving them with both connects.
