When I say foreign code I don't mean it as in international I mean it as proprietary by any vendor. Who cares where the author was as long as it is vetted by a secure team. The idea being that you don't employ anything that has not been checked before it is compiled. The NSA uses SELinux which has been verified from the ground up, and is available to the general public.
I'm more worried about network adaptors and the drivers which originate in China and possible have backdoors. It really doesn't matter where the contributors to the code base come from as long as you can inspect it to ensure nothing suspicious is compiled within it. Maybe Microsoft provides the government a chance to view the entire code base for whatever OS they choose to use but I doubt it.
As for FOSS kook I use several flavors, my work machine is Win 10 as required by my current employer. I have a windows gaming machine and a couple of varieties of Linux. My alpha machine which is my media server is running 64 bit Linux release and has mass quatities of disks in the cabinet to support DVR and MP3 usage throughout the house. My GF uses an iPad and iPhone, I have a Samsung tablet and a Kindle E-reader. I generally use what tool fits the best for the situation.
In my school days the parents would call the office and the secretary would either take a message or the student would located in class and sent to the office to make or receive a call. I can recall hearing the school intercom calling people to the office or the in house system ringing in the class the student was supposed to be requesting the teacher send the student to the office.
That is a perfect example of the lack of I. Our top secret most secure stuff should run on an open source system vetted line by line by the NSA and the compiled with NO foreign code and no tools not produced in the same manner. Including device drivers and any other code that is needed.
115 fatalities in 2017 alone, in school bus accidents. Whiles since 2012 the have been 138 fatalities due to school shootings. So despite what the news might say, there are more kids dying in school bus accidents than in school shootings. One just makes for much better ratings and is a current hot button issue for many liberal individuals and politicians, while the other is just business as usual.
governs the usage and security of medical health information in the US. Very unlikely to appear in employer HR software as it is primarily designed to prevent employers or others from discriminating against individuals based of existing health risks or conditions.
I agree that sharing such information with someone you might potentially be in a physical relationship is wise and should occur, but giving that info to a 3rd party intermediary prior to even establishing a relationship seems a bit umm, reckless ? foolish ?
Notice there are 7 meanings for launch and only the very last one applies to this occurrence. Again I state this is a poor usage of that word, I did not say incorrect, but demonstrates poor grammar. I can launch a rock at someone which predates your ship reference and still more correct than what was used in the article.
HIPPA applies only to doctors, dentists or pharmacists, as well as healthcare insurance companies, but NOT life insurance companies. If you choose to share your medical data with a cab driver or your barber they are not bound by the strictures of the law. The law does include some 3rd party entities to which you are referred such as companies that make orthopedics and the like.
I wasn't aware that apps, or programs, or code in general had sexual preferences. I think they mean the Grindr app used by homosexuals is making data that ignorant people have inappropriately shared available to others which seems like a case of you get what you deserve for over sharing...
Why should GPU's be treated any different than any other product. Car names have no bearing on performance, drug names CERTAINLY have no relation to what they are or do to you or for you. It is strictly a marketing scam to try and grab the attention of potential buyers. Consider Ultra Mega Platinum Extreme vitamins. I could see a case where they should be required to provide some actual real world indication of mflops or tflops or general productivity but that would require some standardized measure performance, and as long as the architecture is different and the drivers proprietary they could arrive at the same output using different processes.
Are they trying hit Elon Musk's car or something, or are they going to being producing and selling or maybe even marketing a phone ? That is a poor use of that word...
Now all we need is all rural school buses equipped with seat belts. At least they will be able to use the Wi-Fi and Chromebook's to say a final good-bye to their loved ones or report that they survived the crash.
Uber didn't develop it, they just copied it from every taxi driver in NY. It has long been know that jay-walking in NYC was a very dangerous occupation/pastime.
Do you really believe that Facebook was originally designed to harvest information or is that just to what use it has been put ? I really don't know I've never used it but I have always been accused of being overly paranoid about info security. I've been a Data Base Admin before and worked with NCR/Teradata and large scale businesses that aggregate huge volumes of data from an unbelievable array of sources. I personally feel that maybe it was subverted to that purpose just like Google was from Do no evil to caches any info about everything we can get. I can certainly see where it is today and the wisdom of your point is valid.
Nah, My long guns, e.g. shotgun's primary purpose is to dove and pheasant hunt. My 30-30 rifles primary purpose is to hunt white tail deer and caribou. My.22 pistol is for fun and target practice. I don't even shoot human silhouette targets with any guns or my bow.
Now a short shotgun or higher caliber pistol is for self defense or as you put it to potentially kill people. I would classify that as self defense since I'm not going to go shoot anyone that isn't threatening my life or that of my family. I even draw the line at property, that can be replaced. I have always carried the same 9 mm that was my service weapon and I certify every year with it to retain my concealed carry permit. I've never had to draw it in the line of duty or otherwise, but I am trained and convinced that in the worst of circumstances I could and would kill a 'bad' guy to save my own or another's life.
Come to think of it a car is far more dangerous to people than a gun is and you're far more likely to get run over than shot. I am very much for gun regulation, background checks and denial to felons that use a gun inappropriately, and certainly of those that are mentally unstable, but data from the most intolerant gun cities such as New York and Chicago fail to support how out lawing gun ownership prevents gun deaths. https://www.investors.com/poli...
Facebook is not inherently bad, anymore than a gun is inherently bad. It is the way in which people choose to implement it that is at fault. Any 'thing' can be used as a force for good or a tool to oppress. Look at what we did with the split atom. It is a great source of energy or a massive engine of destruction. TV is the same way, it COULD be perhaps the greatest vehicle of knowledge and enlightenment, and yet it is a source for corporate enrichment. Mankind doesn't have such a good history of not abusing anything for the short term enrichment of a few to the detriment of most... Jesus preached tolerance love, peace and acceptance, and yet religion has been a tool for some of the worst atrocities in the history of mankind.
LOL, hardly I pull out my stand alone mp3 player and pop in an earbud, or more often I plug the thing into the radio in the auxiliary slot and listen to what I want. The point being there is no radio beyond the satellite service, and no cell service. When we get out into the canyon lands, even the satellite radio becomes unreliable and all communication breaks down to very local CB service. Just because I choose to listen to an eclectic variety of music doesn't mean live in the past. I personally don't subscribe to the fact that vinyl is 'better' than digital, especially considering vinyl is produced from a digital master. It just happens to be where some of the rarer Jazz piano recordings I really love reside.
In battlefield, obviously the numbers are much smaller, but a single squad with a good officer under the direction or a good commander can easily swing the game. Conversely a squad with out direction and supplies will generally flail about without success. I never played EVE online so I can't really attest or relate but I did read some about the game.
I wish I had the talent to make more original music. The closest I can come is making original instruments that I can barely play. I've managed an Irish Harp, a mandolin and a square banjo in the hillbilly style. I can read music so I can test the notes but I could not play anything beyond scales to save my life.
What would be really cool is an AI that play a decent commander spot. B2 is a great game I still love it when a good squad gets together, but playing minus a good commander is not nearly as fun, but playing commander is to be honest sort of boring. An active AI commander capable of meeting the needs of squad requests, following a strategy and assisting in the taking of command points could add a HUGE amount of enjoyment to the game. I know many people who play a good commander but it gets boring after a few rounds, and the side without a decent commander is crippled.
Really that would be worth looking into. I am Amazon hooked, I've prime, video and a Kindle E-reader on kindle unlimited that I use the heck out of. I've got hundreds and hundreds of pieces of music still on 4 track and cassette, not to mention many, many cd's and GB's of mp3 on a spare PC I use for that purpose alone. One of these days my cassette player is going to quit and I am not going to be able to recover it. I finally gave up on 8 tracks a few years ago because I could not find replacement parts but I was never able to recover some of the music. It has just gone out of publication.
I want my music to go with me. What I need is the ability to listen to my Music when I am out in the middle of the boondocks with no cell service at all. I still get Sirius/XM most or the time, but while they do have a great cross section, when I want to hear Thelonious Monk, I want to hear it now, and I rarely ever get a chance to hear Gamma, or Blue Oyster Cult. If I buy the CD I can rip it to mp3 and then I can listen to it when ever, where ever I I am at. I absolutely love being in my Jeep, on top of a hill in the middles of no where listening to the https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

People whining about censorship. In this case you'd get people whining about the lack of censorship. I need someone else to ensure I don't see anything which might be ugly or disagree with my worldview. I wonder how soon before some one sues Caltrans for there be an accident on the freeway. Not in the sense of there being an accident but that they had to witness the 'horror' and tragedy of real life and were forever damaged because of it...

I think you misunderstand, Facebook values people and their private information greatly. How else would they make any money, click thru ads ?
