I definitely don't need BF3 but it looks to me like you certainly do. Oh BF3 is not actually a Blizzard game, even if the line between Activision and Blizzard does get blurrier and blurrier.
The AppDB scorecards are usually wrong(ish). I can absolutely guarantee those weenies that rated it platinum do not get the same performance with the same settings when comparing gameplay on windows vs linux with wine.
Torchlight is available in the Ubuntu store for those that use this OS. I guess people that already bought the original game could contact Runic for a linux binary.
Shows how limited your knowledge is. Troll or not here's *some* big games that work on Linux through wine: World of Warcraft (10 mil. addicts, err gamers), Skyrim (for months, top 10 sales on Steam, now in top 20), Diablo 3 (a disappointment to me, but millions bought it). Mass Effect 1 and 2. ME3 has been reported as working too.
You don't have to pay them yearly. If your stuff continues to work with whatever version of Crossover you end up by the end of your paid subscription, that's it, you just use that. It's your to use forever. Also, all previous versions are freely available to you in case you spot regressions so you can mix and match.
You get the upgrade chepaer and that is a limited time offer. Some people build their machines. Paying the full retail price for Windows may not be an option. OEM license is cheaper but it's garbage.
There is playonlinux. They do exactly that. And no, that is not a long-term solution. Wine needs devs, testers and money. Codeweavers supply some of those but they are not that big of a company.
Like the title says, how much did they produce? How much did they use? I would not be surprized if some of that energy was bought cheaply from some troubled European countries and then re-sold at higher price.
Oh yeah, because the gnome project is known for delivering top notch products. Esp true since Gnome 3. Their way of fixing bugs seems to be that of just yanking code out of everything. Does some feature in nautilus not work right? Damn. Sparky, yank it out!
Looking forward to the day when all that's left of Gnome is reduced to "Hello World!"
So you are getting a piece of software, with 12 months of free support for 0 mullah and wonder "what's the use?" ?! Download it and see what it can do you tool.
You would not be paying for the license to use the OS, you would be paying for support: security patches, maybe some bug fixes. You know the same way people pay RedHat for support of RHEL.
The above is flambait. What stops somebody running ubuntu from switching DE? Unity bad? Fine, there is KDE, XFCE, LXDE and various even lighter options like running just a featured window manager.
Instead, in the days of multi-tasking, we get a GUI that allows only full screen apps, if devs decide to target WinRT (no, not the same as Windows RT). The best it can do, is to paint two windows side by side. DOS Shell, how I miss you. If you go to the desktop you get the same problems you had before.
What exactly does Windows 8 solve, in your opinion, for a desktop user? What exactly would/should make me switch from Win7 to Win8?
Modders? What in the world is your problem with modders? Mods is what kept Warcraft 3 selling for years (ever heard of DOTA?). The ability to create maps and modify game mechanics is what sells Starcraft 2 nowdays. You can only ladder (a.i grind) so much.
Yeah people shouldn't read books they do not have money to pay for too. Or should they? It's about access to culture, even "entertainment" is culture. People will find a way to get what they want.
This is certainly interesting technology and Microsoft must see lots of potential in it. Good for them, as casual piracy really is hurting the industry. It wouldn't be so bad if it went back to the BBS secret ages, but now everyone is pirating.
I really wish those Russians would have a way to distribute kicks in the teeth of MPAA/RIAAA/Corporate shills. I bet people would crowd fund that.
Really? There's this new phenomenon called "crowd funding". Check it out, just google "kickstarter". I have not seen industry veterans unable to get funding there. Youtube and word of mouth on the internet seems to be all the marketing those guys need.
Today's GPUs are FAST and their power is wasted if not used. What's the harm in harnessing it ? It's not mandatory, browsers will use GPUs if they can, else they will fallback to the CPU.
OTOH if you complain about the state of the web in that it requires GPU power to actually provide a faster experience, well partially I feel the same, but then again imagine being able to to all kinds of fancy content without writing one line of C/C++ code. Enabling more people to create. This is going to be awesome!

Have you looked at wine, playonlinux and Crossover for running MS Office apps?

Torchlight and Torchlight 2 as bought directly from Runic Games' site won't work. The Steam versions however, do.

Ofc it is. AMD drivers are pure garbage. So garbage in -> garbage out.

Hey look, we're has-beens and now all we can do is patent trolling. Looking forward to buying my "Nokia" branded light bulbs.

Thing is WoW came out eons ago. You'd think Blizz managed to learn from all their troubles. Well, they did not.

Die EA! Die!
"Give me Deus Ex"
Oh boy, here it comes. Next it will be traced to child porn offenders and to terrorism. Finally they ban it - it must be important then...
