We can just move to Mars where the heat isn't a problem. In fact, on Mars all our environmentally unfriendly activities well help to increase the tempurature to livable. Problem solved.
Speech Recognition is worth so much. It provides the potential for a much faster (can you really type faster than you can talk?), less damaging(carpel tunnel anyone?), form of data input. Now, mind reading would be nice but then the virus potential there is way to dangerous.
I want to be able to replace the hardware for upgrades and replacements. I want to be able to plug in an SD card when I'm using it as an mp3 player and a wifi card when I'm downloading the mp3s and port replacator when I'm working with desktops and GPS when I'm lost. I want these modular devices the be easy for third parties to develope and I want them to be varied. Just like the hardware, I want the software to be abundant and cheap (largly controlled by how much information the manufacturer provides and royalties). I also want the device to last over a year without parts failing and 3+ years with only one or two upgrades/replacements.
In summary I want what everyone wants: Cheap Versitile Durable
This sounds a lot like something I know of... If only I could put my finger on it... Oh yeah! Open Source!
...I just got our school (1600students) to start using 3 more open source products. Haven't manage the switch to linux on 500+ PCs but small steps work better sometimes.
rc2=real crappy too but i'm the one that was stupid enough to think that since all MS products are just betas an rc wouldn't be that bad. I had to use knoppix to get my data before reformmating.
Aliens are currently recieving transmitions from ages ago and have decided that we aren't advanced enough to worry about. By the time their reply comes humans will be long gone and the reply will be the only proof that we existed. These long distance relationships just don't seem to work out.
Some say that the ancient art of listening to your users can make this controversial part of developing software much easier. Reports suggest that Microsoft has found these ancient teachings and is trying it out now, but these are still just rumors when you call tech support.
The companies we've work for tend to be about 50/50 on paying for cell phones and a little less willing to pay for broadband. Computers are all on the employee and PDA are almost entirely on the company. It's not that they can't afford it but rather if they need the employee to have it and somewhat if the employee would get it anyways.
Also important, if you don't think anything is missing, or even if you do, what software do you use for security purposes? Anything obscure but useful or unusual uses of common software?
the school that I go to, and work at, learned from blaster. we got pounded by it and after that we put the systems that should have been in place, in place. when sasser hit it was much less pain because of it. we learned all right
that the microsoft EULAs don't apply to me if I didn't read them, or that Dell's EULA doesn't apply to anyone because it doesn't come with the computers any more?
is full of old toys and electronics for modding into robots. The old toys make for great platforms that are often being thrown away (read: free) which greatly reduces the cost of robotics as a hobby. I find garage sales and, for the brave, trash bins to be great places for these.
Changing a disposible camera (covered recently) into a tazer is a free (walgreens will give the used ones to you) and effective way to defend against many attackers
Yes that one worked very well for me. Only I just told them I liked thinkgeek and got the gift certificate. I don't think they even know what kind of insulting shirts I got with it.
Given how important it is to most people I'd say the private sector will take care of that problem.

with all these insecurities in sp2, why the fvck is it still being pushed?
the first part is easy, everyone has solved that. It's the second stage that get's ya. Still, this is over a month old news.

One word: Modular

it's great to see a good community product getting support from some of the brightest minds, thanks for doing this
they don't ship terrible products responsible for billions in losses every year and the consumer doesn't deal with them directly
but there will be nothing left to rule. I on the other hand am moving to mars

I stopped using best buy years ago when they stopped listening to their customers and refused to stick to their promises

And not because I'm a writer.
I make money when people get a nasty virus that needs some fixing. MY economy would drop if virus writers were executed.
but there still isn't any information on the sex!
