  1. Re:Does this really work? on MS Suggests Using Shims For XP-To-Win7 Transition · · Score: 1

The shim wouldn't actually grant any additional privileges to the app, of course. Look at what Vista already does - if a program attempts to write to the Program Files directory, the write gets redirected to an area in the user's profile folder. For non-filesystem calls, I'd imagine that the shim would request elevation through the usual means - i.e., UAC.

I'm not sure that it's even fair to say that Nintendo underestimated demand. They're already producing 1.8 million systems a month. That's a ton of capacity, and they just may not be able to add much more within a reasonable timeframe. Besides, all that extra manufacturing capacity is going to be wasted money once the demand does dip.

For those in the US, the PS2 doesn't exactly have any GF/DM, nor any beatmania actually worth playing. (Modding and importing doesn't count. Very few people actually do that, and besides, I don't know if it's even possible on the 360 yet.) Yes, the 360 needs good rhythm games. But they don't exist anywhere else yet either. (Here's hoping for a surprise stateside release of beatmaniaIIDX GOLD... yeah, right.)

    And GH2 doesn't suck, either.

Specifically, it would be nice if they could roll out a software update for the Windows Mobile-based phones (such as my T-Mobile MDA) to be able to use this feature. I'd be all over it then, but as it stands right now, I'd have to buy a new, less featureful phone to be able to use this service.

I could be wrong here, but here's how I read the post in question:

I think you miss the concept of a 64-bit _OS_ entirely. The CPU doesn't matter! An AMD or an Intel CPU running a 32-bit OS will work just fine [with iTunes]. An AMD or an Intel CPU running a 64-bit OS will _NOT_ work [with iTunes].

  21. Re:Look on the bright side... on No iPhone For 64-Bit Windows · · Score: 1

The point here isn't what your processor can and can't do. It's a question of what version of the OS you have installed. If you have 32-bit XP/Vista installed, it doesn't matter what processor you have running under it - it's a 32-bit system.
