First off, I sincerely doubt that they paid 2 Bil. Maybe 4-5 hundred million, but I doubt even that much went into that campaign. As far as a bunch of folks taking in the ass, like the AC said, I doubt that either. It is Star Wars, and they wouldn't have put any money into it if it wouldn't have broken even. Lucas is doing well enough with the video games to not have to worry about much.

As for whether or not Pepsi would pay for Jar-Jar isn't the issue. It's whether or not they will pay for Star Wars, which they did for Ep1, and they did for Ep2, and I'll bet that they'll be back for Ep3 too.

  3. Re:Use the force, George on Footage From Star Wars: Episode III · · Score: 1

Obviously they do, because they did pay for the rights to associate Star Wars w/ Pepsi products, and People continued to by pepsi products. Lucas continues to rake in cash from all his licensing deals, and will continue to have cash flow from that. Lets not forget the fact that he still has the original trilogy in his back pocket, waiting to do a DVD release for that. He won't run out of money any time soon, and in the meanwhile he'll continue to shoot himself in the foot with bad Star Wars movies, and whether we like it or not, enough people will go see them to pay for the film, and will buy the associated merchandise to keep it going for another bad movie.

Do you really think that people will stop buying Pepsi just because they don't like Star Wars?

I'm going to have to side with the AC on this one. As long as Lucas does nothing more than pump out more shitty Star Wars movies, people will continue to go see them, regardless of how much they suck. Once you count in the licensing deals, he's made back the cost, plus a bit. What's really sad, is that people didn't boycott the second after the first one sucked, and I sincerely doubt that anyone will ditch on Ep III just because the last one was way subpar. As for what happnes with the Tales of the New Republic, should they be made, Only time will tell on that.

To top it off, it comes with a conversion box, so if a buddy feels like getting a real good work hauling his XBox over, you can plug that into the same pad for some DDR UltraMix action.

Thanks to the AC that beat me on this, but that's pretty much about it. Consistent code is code more easily readable. Readable code is easily maintained by people who didn't write it. My system is well into the Maintenance stage of it's lifecycle, and I've found that there are parts of the software I love working with due to the fact that they are consistent, easily read and followed works of art, while others are about garbage. As for fundamentals, that is the entire point of coding standards. They are the fundamentals of writing good code, and being consistent is one of them, which case sensitivity helps enforce.

Yes, however the counterarguement to this point has already been made, but I'll reply here with it just so you see it.

While Case Sensitivity might not be an issue if good coding practice is followed, It is included in languages such as Java to help enforce those same standards. I know several people who have taken an Intro to CS class in the last year, and all of the classes were taught with Java, of all things. By selecting a language that has built-in constraints that will enforce good coding practices, you can skimp on that in favor of ensuring that they learn the fundamentals of writing code in any language.

I hope that helped you understand things a little bit better. Oh, and for the record, I'm also a real programmer, and I'm stuck working in SQL and PL/SQL, which are both utterly case-insensitive, not to mention the fact that they are absolutely unforgiving when it comes to bad code.

For everything you've talked about here, not having to worry about it is all well and good. However, what you fail to take into account is that in the real world, where people get paid to write code for a living, and especially in cases where you might not have the same team of coders on a project over it's lifetime who will know what everything is and does. I currently work on a system that has been in use for around 10 years, and I can assure you that most of the original team no longer works for this company, let alone on the project.

Bottom line is that while you may have a point in cases where the code will only ever be seen by the individual that wrote it in the first place, in cases where the software will go through a full life cycle and eventually become a sustainment system makes readability and understandability an absolute necessity, otherwise you'd never be able to sustain the system with any sense of efficiency.

I hope that this 'nudged' you into getting a clue about writing good code. Cheers.

The comment itself brings nothing relevant to the conversations, as much as you'd like to think it does. What on earth does the cost of moving oil have to do with the Army's research into a new type of hydrogen fuel cell technology.

Second, all you are really doing is taking a quote from the blurb, spewing some crap about the possible cost of moving an oil tanker from kuwait to Baghdad, which is landlocked anyway, and using that to bash Pres. Bush for Haliburton being the low bidder on the rebuilding efforts.

    Go troll elsewhere.
