While the MPAA ratings given are done within the industry, the guidlines for rating them are enforced by the FCC, IIRC. The ESRB ratings take a lot from those guidlines, and are basically a carbon copy at that. In essence, you are both right, However, Both parties would look really bad if they were to rate a movie lower than what it should be rated.

In essence, while it is quite easily for a group with interests to try to 'buy' a lower rating, it would more than likely come back to bite them in the ass when all the concerend parents groups, along with whoever else decides to rise against them for putting out such garbage.

IGN is actually the only site I've seen give them a good review. Everyone else trashes them for the same reasons I don't like them: They are simply way too big. The controller is nearly as large as the original XBox controller, which, IIRC has been discontinued. I could be wrong about this, but I haven't seen one in a store for over a year at this point. As for $40 and up being inexpensive, keep in mind that Nintendo sells the Wavebird for around $30, and keeps the exact same feel as the original controller. To me, and most others, that is really the deciding factor on the utility of a controller.

I've given the Logitech PS2 controller a go, as well as the Pelican for the XBox. My issue with both of those is that they are both significantly larger and/or shaped differently enough to ruin the feel of the original controller, which I noted in my original post.

I have 3 consoles and a DVD player running on 1 TV. For all the AV cabling, I have a junction box which deals with that quite nicely. They run around $20 at a Best Buy or some other gaming store. For Controllers, I usually have them all stored unless they are actually in use, with the exception of my GCN. I have Wavebirds for that. I'd like to go the wireless route with controllers for the other 2 systems, but Sony and MS have yet to put out a decent wireless controller. Currently they are all IR based, which tends to be exceptionally laggy, short on range, and the controllers themselves lose the feel of the original controller. When they get a Wavebird equivilent, I'll probably grab those to deal with the rest. Oh, and for power cables, Belkin sells a set of velcro ties for cable management for $5 or so. A PC supply shop should carry those.

I grew up in a military household, with a father who was an officer in the US Navy. This means that for over half the year on average, my mother who worked in excess of 50 hours a week was the only parent raising myself and 2 siblings. As a result of this, I was in the same situation that these children who have gone out and 'played' GTA and committed other senseless acts of violence were, from a standpoint of the amount of time my parents were around. It is quite likely that they saw more of their parents, mostly due to the fact that one of their parents was not gone for 6 months out of the year. However, that does not mean that my parents were not involved in everything I did, from school activities, to the friends I hung out with to all of the video games I played. The reason that there is a deluge of comments about "where were the parents?" is not so much a literal one, but a figurative one pertaining to why were they not more involved.

I feel that a large part of the issue here is that all the parents of children who do these things is that the parents don't get involved in their lives, so in a somewhat desperate cry for attention, or perhaps to lash out at what they perceive to be a society that carries no love for them they act out the one thing that brings them comfort; a violent video game. While I don't think that the games are entirely to blame, I'm sure that with access to firearms and other weapons they would be quite capable of finding source material in movies or TV, the issue at the heart of all of this is parental involvement, moreso the appalling lack thereof which has come to be the norm in todays society.

I used to have one, but wore it out on FF games within a year of getting it. I haven't been able to find one since, and had forgotten the manufacturer. As for it being difficult to use, it was really only intended for RPGs, and with that purpose in mind, it is a wonderful controller to use, as it leaves a hand free for things like keeping the other half off my back or looking through a strategy guide.

A few years back Sony released a one handed controller for the PSOne. There is a catch with it, however. It does not feature one of the analog controllers, and would most likely not work for any game that required it. The other problem is that it is really designed for use with RPGs and is probably not suited to any other genre. I'd think that would be the case with most games out there, IMO.

Not quite true. There are hundreds of people who live aboard a cruiser, and generate their power from a mix of wind, solar and diesel power. My grandparents lived aboard a sailboat for almost 8 years, and owned 2 laptops and a desktop. This situation is very similar, although they had to deal with saltwater corrosion in addition to the power drawn by the PC.

On topic, I'd have to say that a laptop would definitely be the best choice based on a power consumption point; the PC they bought drew nearly double what either of the laptops did.

However, in 6 months, there have been 2 parts to the monthly story. In addition, most of the monthly story is aimed at combat classes, and are nearly impossible for a crafter to complete. There is a huge amount they could have done, and still can do. It is simply a matter of the development team getting up and implementing it all.

Around 3 million more gets you to the Jedi Knight tree. 20 more million and you are a Jedi Knight, and if you are still alive at this point, you are the closest thing to God. If you are still alive, and not hunted by every BH on the server that can get the missions for your head on a stick, around 40 million more XP gets you to Jedi Master. If you die your third time after that, you simply get reset back to Initiate, loosing all progress. The whole "Blue Glowy" Concept was removed about 2 months ago.

There are a few buggy, half broken themeparks, a handful of quests, and beyond that, there is 35 professions, not counting the Jedi classes. That is where all the content is, and it is no substitute for a storyline or any quests.

I'd rather wait on that than this steaming pile of imaginary bullshit called Duke Nukem Forever. We'll see a completly stable version of SW:G long before that hits the shelves, anyway.
