People involved with these are treated as technical gurus in our campus, since they are the people who get things working with the most efficacy. Needless to mention, all our server use open source software, and all the sysadmins are hardcore linux fans.

Long time M$ realized that the windows was never MY-ne anyway. Bizarringly astounding innovation. This can be quoted as one of the 10 top reasons for upgrading to Longhorn.
I don't think he mentioned "playing" to be bad. On the contrary, he mentions that given a backyard, kids will be eager to the whole day. So it's the curiousity that he points to. Wasting time is when you don't have thoughts going in your mind.
