  1. Both on The Choice Between DRM and Security · · Score: 1

According to Microsoft trustworthy computing, DRM and security are the same thing. I call BS.

  2. Sickening on Slashdot HTML 4.01 and CSS · · Score: 1, Interesting

All the brown nosing commments are getting good marks while constructive criticism is shot down as flame bait. I agree that if you are going to put all that work on the backend of the web site (the code), you might as well improve the GUI too. While we are on the topic of improving the site, how about putting in a spell checker?

  3. *Yawn* on Office 12 Exposed · · Score: 1

  4. Cool on Windows Interoperability in A Linux Distro · · Score: 2, Interesting

It sounds like Xandros, with the help of Linspire, could really give Microsoft a run for its money. As Linux becomes more easy to use, I think it is more likely that Linux will take market share away from Windows than Mac. Why buy a new computer for a new OS when you can install a new OS on the computer you already have?

  10. Mod Morgan Freeman Redudant on Internet Movies Before DVD · · Score: 2, Interesting

There are already services that let you view movies online. If I am going to pay full price for a movie, I want the physical media that I can hold. Considering how cheap Wal-mart DVDs are, they better offer dirt cheap prices on this service if they expect to succeed.

I don't see a whole lot of positive things about this invention.

I can't believe this was modded as insightful. That same remark could have been made about the cable connections we run today. When you combine online gaming, VoIP, and streaming TV, etc you suddenly realize that there will be a need for connections like that without throwing piracy in the mix. Saying that piracy is the only reason for such a connection is arrogant. That's like someone saying the only reason you would want a gun is to commit a crime.

How about we just declare them an enemy of the state and shoot them on site.

Irrelevant. The point is who should get the money. Peter Jackson has every right to demand every penny he was promised in the contract. Why not look past our own jealousy and stand up for what is right not what a twisted version of fair is.

  22. My Organization Is The Same Way on Half Of Businesses Still Use Windows 2000 · · Score: 1
I work for a public broadcasting station. The main reason we stick with Windows 2000 is money or rather lack of. I am pretty sure we don't have software assurance. Even with a discount, upgrading 200+ computers is not cheap.

The second reason is this station has been burned with upgrades before. Legacy programs wouldn't work. Now that we have had Windows 2000 long enough to get everything to work, we hesitate to upgrade to XP. It is the whole "why replace it if it works" mentality. Even when I got my new cheap celeron computer, they IS dept took of XP Pro and put Windows 2000 on it to avoid network compatibility problems.

A third reason is Windows 2000 isn't the resource hog at XP is. Even on my new celeron computer with just onboard graphics, Windows 2000 runs really fast. At work, you really don't need eye candy. We are still running some computers that could not handle XP.

That pretty much sums it up.
