  1. Re:Cause of conflict: Bonzo Madrid (SPOILER WARNIN on More Delays for Ender Movie · · Score: 1

One of the things I see as a probable cause of conflict is that some of the key scenes in the movie, and key scenes of character development, is that Ender basically gets picked on, and then retaliates by beating is antagonizers to death.

They don't have to be bloody fights. If I understand the ratings system, blood and gore is more offensive than good clean pain and death. In fact, the deaths shouldn't be too obvious to the viewers, since Ender himself doesn't realize that he has killed anyone. The fights should demonstrate that although physically Ender is the underdog, he is a very intelligent fighter who goes all out, not stopping until his opponent is thoroughly whipped.

  3. Re:Well good on Federal Judge Rules Against Intelligent Design · · Score: 1

I agree on both points. Science is the study of the laws of nature. Whether anything or anyone exists outside of nature is outside of the bounds of scientific inquiry. However, educated people should know about ideas that are not scientific. That is why science classes are normally allocated only an hour a day.

Although religous indocrination doesn't belong in school, an education that ignores the significance of religion is incomplete. Understanding the role of the supernatural in human thought does not mean agreeing or passing judgement on ideas that cannot be confirmed scientifically. A person who does't understand the influence of religion on our nation's history or doesn't understand the beliefs of the major religions of the modern world cannot interact properly with those who do have different faiths.

In the interest of keeping religous doctrination out of schools, I fear that the public education system is leaving out stuff that should be a required part of history, philosopy, or social studies. Just not science.

Jurassic Park is a great example of how to do an adaptation. The movie made perfect sense as a story even though it left out about half of the the events in the book and most of the "science education". Plus, they made the little girl more interesting, so that they had two complete characters instead of an interesting boy and a girl that just stood around taking up space.

LotR apparently makes a better movie than a book, because I can't stay awake when I try to read it. I'd have no idea what it's about without the movie.

Haven't read Princess Bride, but I love the movie, so maybe I should give it a try.

Assuming it is as well made and faithful as the reviews claim, you might consider the movie to be a trailer for the book. In most cases, when a movie adaptation is made of a classic book, if you enjoy the movie, you will love the book. Worst case is you'll get to see the most realistic talking CGI character.

They were always happy to remove the charge if I call customer service, but it happened too often, and the wait for person was much too long, so I switched to MCI, not exactly a saintly company either, but the bill is the same every month. MCI no longer sells in Georgia, but they didn't kick off the existing customers and they didn't raise the rates.

You have to price out the whole package, you can't have VOIP without broadband, BellSouth doesn't allow DSL (from anyone) unless you also have their landline. So in BellSouth land, you gotta have a landline anyway, unless you go to the cable company for everything and they are even more expensive.

Now, if the dorm has wifi or wired ethernet in the room for free, that makes the decision a lot simpler. If you need to use the phone away from the room, get cell, otherwise landline is fine, unless cell has free long distance that you need. Cell wins out most of the time unless your internet depends on landline.
