I'll compare it to normal space flight.
The last shuttle, Endeavor, completed in May 1991, cost $2.1 billion and was designed to be used for 100 trips (which divides out to $21 million per trip). This winds up being a rather minor part (7%) of the total cost of a space shuttle launch, estimated to be $300 million per launch for the first eight flights in any given year (through the year 2020). (taken from http://www.distant-star.com/issue13/april_2003_spa ce_launch_costs.htm) So, thats actually pretty impresive if you ask me.

Most people who read this stuff realize that the Microsoft ads are bull anyways. Microsoft is just helping to make sure OSDN webpages stay here and make sure that they dont need as much support from people like us. For those of you who have read the the ads, did it change your thinking in anyway to help out microsoft? I doubt it. Look at it this way. It makes microsoft look dumb and "unsportsman-like". And it helps to fund OSDN. Now, if Linuxtoday is really becoming biased then I would agree there is a problem that needs to be acknowledged.

  11. Does it matter? on RIAA Countersued Under Racketeering Laws · · Score: 1

You might consider this flaimbait but here i go
You need to think of this logically not legally.
I dont agree with the tactics of the riaa. Imagine however that they did prosecute everyone to the full extent of the law. How many people would win the lawsuit?
The simple fact is that what you do when you downlaod music you do not own or redistribute it for other than personal use you are violating the copyright and violating the copyright is illegal
like john lennon said, "Music is everyone's posession. It's only the publishers who think they own it." The RIAA makes money from peoples records . The only reason they care about artists is so they will sell records so the riaa makes money. The simple truth is that artists benefit by good promotion from large labels. If they cant sell any cd's or get promoted how are they going to get anyone to experience their music in hope that they will pay for tickets to a show. Lots of artists make money from shows and special deals like pepsi commercials. Thats where the real money is. The Riaa does its job and just wants its end of the bargain even if they do take too much sometimes
Yes the riaa owns the music. That gives them the right to prosecute people who steal "their" music which is legal to do because you havent bought it from the riaa. So instead of countersuing for rackateering, just be glad they didnt sue you for 144,000 dollars for each of your 17 songs from kazaa cause that would be a little expensive would it not? I dont see why the RIAA woulnt win if they sued you for 144 grand either cause how do you defend something so blatently illegal? i dont think anyone can argue that what the RIAA is doing isnt legal. 2000 dollars isnt anything compared to the amount you could have to pay. If people werent so legalistic it would make things a hell of a lot less complicated.

This rfid seems like it could be very useful to deter counterfit stuff, what about using it on money. Then we could track you down to place where you are spendidng your ransom money! the real problem is getting these things on every single street corner. i Think rfids will mainly used in a commercial sense where they can track your purchases and best buy can be alerted when one of their best customers come in so they can greet them with a sales rep who knows nothing. oh here's another idea RFID toilet paper, yes you can find out who the damn kid was who tp'ed your house!

honeslty, tune recylcer is being stupid. i for one will not give them my bottle caps and im wondering if anyone else will i mean there is good music that i want that i can get off of itunes and by golly is anyone really going to give them their bottlecaps?
why not just give them to someone you know rather than mailing them something, hell just go and buy some "open source zealot musicians" cd if its that big of a deal, but if you give them to tune recycler your almost wasting it in my opinion the artitsts only get 50 cents so send them a check and save yourself a stamp or some effort sending them an e-mail.
hmm we could sign with a non-evil label and get lots of money back, or we could sign on a evil label get promoted better possibly make less money per cd, but sell more of them and make more money from volume
i mean honestly sharing music is illegal if you are violating the copyright and whatnot. I dont give a crap about the RIAA being evil except i wish cd's were cheaper, but now i have itunes, im happy to pay for a good cd, but when i only want one song itunes is a much better deal. if music was open source we wouldnt have good music. because people wouldnt be very inspired to make music, they would like to go and make money in a real job, and you guys wouldnt support it and you know it. if you got it for free, for most of you freeloaders you wouldnt give anything back. how many people who use linux give things back willingly, i honestly have not given one distribution one cent so condemn me to hell. honestly, would we start open source music labs or something? The RIAA is definatley in it for themselves but its almost a neccesary evil.

The ac adapter isnt very bulky and charged via the same cable you use for the transfers. 8 hours isnt to bad considering it has to spin a freaking hard-drive, I mean how long does your laptop battery last? 6 hours is probably the norm. When I was thinking about getting a ipod i didnt like the idea of rechargeable batteries, but i dont have to look for AA's with a charge on them. Now, i actually wouldnt buy a music player with AA type stuff cause its just a hassle, and if my battery dies unless you use rechargleables AA's will cost alot in the long run too.
anything with a li-ion battery will have the risk of overheating
time for the flamebiat.. honeslty just go buy yourself a fricking ipod, instead of waiting for OGG, FLAC, Bluetooth, and some crappy UI than cant compete with apple's and use the AAC format its actually pretty decent.
i bet people are going to talk about he rio karma.. well i was looking at that and it said something about solid state electronics, so i asked rio about it i said something smart like "i know your karma must have a hardrive because you coundt offer Xgigs of compact flash or memory without moving parts, so could you please explain to me how it is that this has no moving parts?" then they sent me an email telling me that the hardrive doesnt count as moving parts.
