Its hard to stomach how unrealistically the environment acts to shooting a light when you can shoot a zombie in the head and have a more devestating effect than just shooting him in the arm.
Was your company database software compiled for the Itanium.. or were you guys using the x86 emulation mode? (i sure it was the latter... otherwise your results would be quite different). the parent (by jarich) needs a psuedo-mod of uninformed
Ok... so i'm out of modpoints.. but whoever the hell modded the parent 'offtopic' obviously didn't read the article. and yes.. a low power g5 in a widescreen powerbook would kick ass.;)
day's are numbered? that's just silly... and I'm sure there are several guitar styles that would be near impossible for this robot to play.. I mean, in the end... it isn't much different than a mechanical piano player. besides.. i'm sure it has pretty crappy 'stage presence'.;)

Well even though (most) slashdot readers are beyond this book, we all have family members and friends that could use a little direction. think of this post like one of those "advice to parents" articles in your local newspaper.;)
I'm sick of people not using the correct words when referring to malware. i'm sure you've all heard the line "I need adware for my computer" or "I need spyware" when they are referring to removal tools. also, contrary to the article:
Adware: A program that displays ADs on your computer.
Spyware: Tracking software that may work in conjunction with Adware for targeted advertising
Malware: All of the above
that would be fantastic. Me: "hello, I was reading your magazines horoscope section... yep. yep.. that's correct I'm still not a millionare. Ok. I'll hold.. " Magazine: "Thank you for holding, this is the legal department!"
i agree to a point.. honestly, what did he do? created a piece of software that exploited insecure code and enabled a function of the OS (RPC system shutdown).
Pretty much.. smart folders (macosx 10.4), translucency and 3d effects (OSX, aqua), database file system search (spotlight, google desktop search, beagle, kat, etc), tabbed browsing (firefox, opera, konqueror, et al), restricted user account (well.. a real implimentation would mean rewriting countless windows programs and an overhaul of the windows permission system... unix and unixlike)
I don't remember the last time microsoft showed ANY innovation of its own. anyone?
this people is (yet again) proof that our legal system does not work. it is a pawn for big business to 'legally' crush individuals and smaller companies.
Or stop wasting your time and get a Mac... Or install linux. Anyone else out there notice that after scaring the hell out of someone after removing a virus from their computer or telling someone what software they NEED to purchase to help protect them from virii they still laugh at you (at least a bit) when you tell them to "Buy a Mac"?
He forgets to mention all the software that composes a working linux system. Linux as a server/desktop and not just a kernel to plus into someone elses non-gpl'd system would not be where it is today without the gpl. just look at all the shared resources that go into today's open source software.
Maybe someone here knows the answer to this. when the heck did japan enact antimonpoly legislation?? AFAIK(new) Japan was a breeding ground for monopolies.
well it may appear to be shades of grey, but the signaling done in our brains could be compared to very high resolution sequences of true and false. think of an mp3 file. Basically beeps at an incredibly high resolution.
since KDE 3.2 there has been a lot of progress towards removing a lot of that bloat. Anymore I find gnome apps to be significantly slower than KDE 3.2+ apps.
well the core of X hasn't changed substantially in.. over a decade. While window managers and desktop environments have come a long way, the foundation, X, hasn't.
what's groundbreaking is the simple to use, easy to navigate interface. The scroll wheel goes a long way towards this. their physical build quality is arguably the best on the market. Thick hard plastic with a metal back- they feel a lot like an ibook. there is nothing more disappointing than spending a couple hundred dollars on an electronic device and having it feel like its made of cheap thin plastic. They don't have DRM built into them. DRM isn't simply a way to keep people from pirating music, but it infringes on a person's right to make legitimate copies. and yes.. the ipod has become 'cool'. btw-- i have owned plenty of other mp3 players. I steered away from the ipod because it didn't seem to have as many 'features', but after using one, i was hooked. ask any ipod owner, they'll tell you the same.
dont give a damn anyway.. java doesnt do it for me.
viruses are great. really! they ensure survival of the fittest in software. software darwinism. ;)

I was actually being kind. He clarified my point for me. ;)

i made the GP. Thanks for clarifying what i meant.
probably.. but i'm sick of the stereotypical KDE is bloated because its KDE
I agree. Why can't all the technologies developed for DR17 be ported into X? Its obvious a lot of thought and work went into entice, evas, etc.
