They must have the same coders from the Star Wars Galaxies team. NPC's can shoot through hills, mountains and trees in SWG. There is nothing like burst running over a hill only to get shot in the butt by someone who is on the other side.
I think maybe they were playing a little too much counterstrike since all the guns work like AWP's
Some players have reported online spats leaking out of the game players have hacked into others' accounts, posed as acquaintances and spread rumors about real people through instant messaging. Some have even reported identity theft.
Sounds just like IRC. Stuff like this has been going on forever. It's not just in MMO games, it happens in FPS and Chat rooms too.
I post this now, because the servers are down on Star wars Galaxies. I blocked off a section of my time (ie this whole weekend) to play but the servers have been down as much as up. What you aren't hearing is that they pull down the servers for 4 hours a day every day for maintaince. On top of if something goes wrong (ie today.) They've had about 7 hours of DOWNTIME for my server today and when I try to go into my character select screen, my almost uber guy is standing there NAKED with none of his items and his HAIR is gone.
It looks like he was the victim of a prison rape.
Needless to say, I don't think they will be getting my money when the free month is up. It's nice that they have a built in macroing system though. It's almost like building an aimbot into a first person shooter.
It's the first MMORPG I have played that a casual gamer can enjoy.
Yes, If you mean by casual gamer someone who plays 12 hours a day instead of 16.
c'mon just to get into the story line of the game + pvp (the galatic civil war) you have to do 20 delevery missions. Don't even get me into how hard it is to get to point A to point B or to get experence.
I'll be glad to see U2 get multiplayer since I wasn't happy with UT2k3 after Unreal Tournament. Myself, along with a lot of players never migrated to UT2k3 since it seemed like a downgrade in everything except graphics.
You mean, CSHP (Client Side Hack Protection)
and CSHP didn't do that in the early versions AFAIK. I would know since I coded the first UT aimbot;)

A Windows trojan is news. There are a gajillion desktops out there to attack. Who is interested in reporting a virus for a niche operating system with a few thousand users? Certainly not the mainstream. What about Antivirus tools, etc. Who is going to write them?
I think the authors point was the problem is that there are a gajillion wintel desktops out there. It's great that a windows trojan is news, but I don't think we've seen one that is REALLY malware. Most of them only focus on self-replication and not destruction of the host.
The problem with the one host enviornment is, if some virus writer decides he is having a bad day and comes up with an exploit that can render all of the windows boxes on the net inoperable then there is a huge problem since 80% of the internet traffic will be gone. (or maybe this would be a solution to some people;))
Geeky jokes aside, if this ever happened it would cost businesses and just plan old people millions of dollars. Non-Tech savvy People would be reluctant to connect to the net again if they bought a new PC, etc.
If half the boxes out there were on a mac, the blow to the net wouldn't be as bad...
I'm rambling, so I'll stop now....
how many people who were really enjoying the game do you think there were who took the time to stop playing, go to the public forums and write a glowing review?
You must be kidding, are you saying that someone who likes SWG wouldn't TURN THE GAME OFF at any point and post on a message board after the NDA was lifted. Give us a break, those guys were probably writing their reviews for months. I guess you think all of the beta testers were playing SWG 15 hours a day and not doing any else. Right. Like they wouldn't take 15 minutes out of their day to talk about a game they "love" for a bunch of people online. Have you ever tried getting a gamer to SHUT UP about a game they like when they start talking about it? It's not easy.
The way they were designing the game at first (ie for the casual gamer) was what they should have been shooting for. I'm sure this game will attract a lot of players who aren't interested in MMORPG's usually.
I'm also sure they will be turned off by the fact that becoming a Jedi is random, combat is boring from what I hear, and the quests aren't very good.
The idea of Force Sensitive characters suffering perma-death is a good one. It shouldn't be random as to when you can become a Jedi, but it should be damn hard instead. Make them suffer perma death, and give other professions a bonus for killing them. I think the casual gamer (ie 3-8 hours a week) would accept this.
Also, the PVP is lame, Star Wars is about well WARS. It's more like Star Wars:Care Bear edition the way it is now.
OK, here's the real unvarnished truth. Your games suck ass. Really. If you picked 20 random postal workers from the thousands that the USPS employs, they could figure out a better way to make the "games" you call Postal and Postal 2. They're crap. Get over yourselves.
Funny, I saw someone walking around the other day with a "postal" T-Shirt on. Also, I like postal 2, as well as 3 other people I know who bought it after seeing me play it. Here is the real truth, just because you think a game "sucks" it doesn't mean they all do.
Yeah, it's fun. It's not a hardcore gaming experence. If you play an hour a day you will get about a week or two out of it. It's more fun to just randomly kill things though.
I would have actually tried planetside, I like the concept behind it. The only problem is that there is no way to WIN at planet side. I like the idea of a huge FPS, but a FPS without a way to win is pointless.
What I'd really like is a RPG-FPS where I could do RPG stuff like run around a huge universe and buy items but combat is handled like a FPS. They should have used the combat engine for Jedi Outcast 2 for Galaxies.
Or a RPG where I'm actually free to try to kill whoever I want if I decided I don't like them (or vice versa).
I've heard of neocron, but every says it blows:/
I'm looking foward to playing Star Wars Online. Im just hoping there is plenty I can KILL and it's not a boring point/click/get experence like everquest.
Let me set the record straight on all the Full Sail sucks comments. The reason everyone's roommate, or friends friend friend says full sail sucks is usually because they couldn't take it.
The bottom line with any of these schools are the placement rate into jobs that are relevent to the program you take. A lot of tech schools will brag about a high placement rate but they place students in jobs they don't want that aren't what they went to school for.
Why should someone go down there to get into the gaming industry? Wouldn't they be better off to just get a CS degree and work on some demo's themselves on the side?
Oooh, I remember the network tournament system midway working on. IIRC they wanted to hook up MK3U or MK4 machines in the arcade to other arcades so they could run huge tournaments, keep stats, etc right? Or was it for "the grid" or whatever their arcade first person shooter was. That is so awesome that you worked at Midway, If I could pick a game company to ever work for it would probably be Midway.
Did you ever bump into Ed Boon? Any ideas why the MK games seemed to go downhill after the 2nd one? Sorry for all the questions, I was a big MK fan a few years ago.
you can shoot through some objects (like trees)

The NDA was lifted when that beta tester posted the negative review.

I never had any trouble with Unreal Tournament and I ran it on 3 different setups, one of which was a p2 450 with 128 mb of ram.

Just wondering, what was your education/experence background when you got your first job with a game company, and what position was it?
