It's called differentiation between good gun owners and bad gun owners, dipshit. Yes its more complicated than that but I had to dumb it down sufficiently for you to even begin to understand. Here's a hint: it isn't hunters and target shooters that are shooting up elementary schools.
Android's permission listings are damn near useless. Every single app in the Play store wants permission to access everything on the phone. I'm not sure if this is just lazy programming or if there is some sort of serious limitation if your app does not ask for maximum permissions.
If you decide you won't permit apps on your phone that are too intrusive, you will have a phone with no apps other than the crap the phone maker forces on it. Selective disabling of permissions would give the user some meaningful choice.
Oligonicella is an anal-retentive pedantic douchebag who has never been laid. He takes his frustrations out on random Slashdot users. Just look at his posting history.
Reading a text while stopped with the foot firmly on the brake pedal is harmless behavior. Anyone with common sense knows this is true.
Letting the vehicle roll forward while continuing to text and not focusing your attention on driving is criminal recklessness, and should lead to arrest if it results in an accident and heavy fines in any case.
I didn't see anyone claiming that people should be able to play Angry Birds at a stop light, or even check a Facebook status. Is this completely ridiculous strawman temper tantrum of yours the best argument you can make?
This is what has always frustrated me about IT people, developers in particular. They are CLUELESS as to the need for professional associations, similar to what doctors and lawyers have. Notice I did not say labor unions, as that model would not work for IT workers. Most programmers think they will always have a job just because they are so smart. This is not always the case - legislation bought by large corporations can make good jobs hard to come by.
Its about time our industry matured a bit and formed some well-supported professional associations that can advocate for our best interests.
Implementing this will increase, not decrease traffic fatalities.
Yes, but people who support authoritarian schemes like this don't care. They do it under the guise of safety, but what they really crave is control of other people's activities. So the fact that it actually makes things less safe will not sway them.
If you keep getting offers for credit, you're in somebody's database. Banks don't just send them to random names at random addresses and hope to sometimes get it right.
Thank God for loud movie sound! Its the only thing that drowns out the inane conversations of the "average American" who won't shut up even during a movie. Why can't people go just two fucking hours out of their day without talking?
This comment was modded down simply because the truth hurts. But its EXACTLY the attitude that almost any content owner has towards intellectual property (I can take other people's stuff but they can't take mine).
Actually they will throw them away. Chertoff's company already made money on the scanners, which is the only reason they were ever purchased to begin with. Therefore, the scanners have already served their useful purpose and the government will now gladly scrap them. After all, its only tax money they wasted. They don't care.
Illinois is the exact opposite. NOBODY gets denied unemployment here. I even knew of someone who was fired for stealing merchandise and the company was not able to contest the unemployment filing because there was no police report of the theft. Then again, this is a welfare state and politicians here like it when people scam the benefit programs since it means they are more likely to vote Democrat as a way of saying thanks.
Not to mention, banks are run by MBAs. MBAs pride themselves on ignorance when it comes to technology. Actually, they think of themselves as very tech-savvy just because they know how to make Excel pivot tables. But they see no need to upgrade 10 year old applications with tons of security holes.
While unmaintainable code is a bad thing, the reality of it is there are no real warranties in the software world. Every product or service has terms that state something along the lines of "we are not liable for anything" and you aren't even entitled to so much as a refund of the purchase price, although many companies will refund money if the customer is super pissed and they want to keep the customer.
JavaScript is easy to hate because its a piece of garbage. It can't make up its mind whether or not it wants to be a real programming language (will it support data types or not?) . If it weren't the only client side scripting language available, it would be abandoned like Flash.
Good idea. Lets go back in time 20 years just because it makes life easier for control-freak employers.
Hire professionals, treat them well, and be amazed at the quality of work they do. Or continue your approach of paying peanuts, hiring monkeys, and being disappointed that they goof off all day. Which one do you think will lead to a better company overall?
You don't think Yahoo also plunders your personal information for corporate gain?
Did you just get back from a showing of Hunger Games?

Sure, lets get rid of those wasteful cars. Not like they ever contributed to the economy or the public good or anything...

Remember it goes both ways. You can always manipulate it favorably too.
Notice the low bidder policy never actually results in any real cost savings, only in quality reduction which ultimately costs the government more.

AOL will probably buy them. It would make a perfect addition to their already sinking ship.

Hence the reason why liberals despise private ownership of firearms.
Since when do the feds enforce speed limits?

One more difference: it costs at least 3 times as much to dispose of e-waste "properly".
