Better yet, run fireproof conduit (large, 1") to all recepticles. That way, when you realize that you needed a different cable at the place you already have a cable (but don't need), you can just change it out. I had this issue, but ended up reusing an existing recepticle, but running the wire under the faceplate. Looked terrible, but was ok as a temporary solution.
I suppose it's better than what I thought....that is: what would the Daily Show do with the Creative Commons license? Is the GPL next? Then I re-read the article, and thought...but why is it on Slashdot?
Other possible answers:
1. Whoops.
2. What does this button do?
3....
I'm sorry I can't think of any more, but I'm sure that someone around here has saved up a similar list for just such an occasion.
I have to agree with Bill Gates - on the most part. I have built a media PC (sorry, not Myth, not Media Center either) that is my VCR (records TV), my radio (Shoutcast), my web server, my backup hard drive for important documents, my file server, my CD player, and much much more. And I did it myself for around $200 (well, digging out a hard drive that I had already purchased and a TV card that I got about 5 or so years ago). And I don't have to hunt around too much for it. Heck, my 5 year old knows how to play movies and TV shows on it.
Of course, if I am leaving the house, I want the cell phone, the camera, the mp3 player, etc. etc. But that's because I am *cheap*. I have a pay as you go cell phone, an old camera...etc. I don't NEED integration if I am not at the bleeding edge.
I suppose buying not new toys goes against consumerism, but I find it satisfying to rework old machinery into new uses.
Off then to Africa to get me a member of either the San or Khwe tribes who talk by making clicking noises. Maybe I can install linux on one of them!! Either that, or maybe a dolphin...
You would think that the editors could at least spell "Microsoft" correct in the article. Especially since that company is discussed "fairly often" around here. Or at least use one of the common misspellings, i.e. M$.
What about the Red Dragon chip? As far as I can tell, it's vaporware. Last news I heard was from about June 2004.
Course, I could be wrong. I mean it could be running Duke Nukem as we speak.
Swatch recently tried to market something like this. Unfortunately, their site is flash, but go to here and search for ".beat". The idea was based on 1000 "beats" per day, all starting at 0 in Zurich, if I remember correctly (rather than Greenwich). Interesting idea to keep everybody synchronized, but not helpful if you want to know what time lunch is.

Last I checked, that has already been invented. They call it "ice".
Why didn't their servers have a UPS? If the power was down for only a few minutes, it wouldn't have been such a big deal.

Well, I have a feeling that this news will be posted again in the next day or two...

I say give all the students who pass a "B". If they come up with a usable solution that passes the slashdot "check list" test, give them an A+.
If you had, you would already know what netcraft says.
It's an asteroid!
I bet that's not what you thought I was going to say, right?
Awk is great. More people should use awk. It's like C without all the pointers.
:-(
Then again....it's like C without all the pointers.
Blasphemy!!!
Of course, I own a pc...

No comments about modding your Real Doll (or robot girlfriend, etc.)? Get with it, people!
All they really needed to get the drive to do it themselves was that one Martian to write "Wash me" on the solar panels.

Is anyone else making the comparison between "more antennas=better" and the mach 3 razor "more blades=better"?
I'm not dead yet!
I'm getting better.
A useful net product for most slashdotters!
Damn...there goes my karma...
