IIRC, the problem was something like "my ship might end up in a zone where only a 386 would work", so software archeology was one way to write code for archaic systems that would be poorly understood by someone used to computers thousands of years advanced from that. This is NOT only science fiction. Imagine trying to get a room full of Apple IIs, Ataris, 286s, C-64s, and Amigas all up and running. Anyone remember all the custom autoexec.bat and config.sys files needed to get certain games to run under DOS? My point with Clinton was many people think Clinton = everyone liked us and Bush = everyone hates us. In real life it is more like Clinton = everyone hates us and Bush = everyone REALLY hates us. As for fraud, the minute a large number of Americans think that they can't actually elect their government we will either drift into facism or turn into one of those loser countries that seem to have a revolt of some kind every time the population gets annoyed. I bet Nixon wouldn't have been so hot to do all those Watergate schemes if he hadn't seen what happens to honest politicians.

This also explains things like Photoshop Elements that is just Photoshop with some pro features removed for a fraction of the price.

It does seem correct at least in that the "weaker" people wouldn't even have survived the trip over here, let alone the brutal life of a slave. I did read that Hiroshima and Nagasaki A-bomb survivors are healthier than the averge at this point. The reason for this is supposed to be the less healthy ones died out quickly. In general genetics is WAY too complicated for the result proposed in the article. For one example, a long time ago Russians tried to breed friendly foxes that could be raised by humans. They did succeed, but it turns out the same genetics that make foxes act nice also make their fur odd colors that are useless commercially. Who would have thought "enjoys biting people and peeing on stuff = nice fur" in the DNA?

The reason we don't you all building airplanes or other military hardware is we MAKE MONEY selling you our stuff. This is just basic military-industrial complex cynical commercial politics at work, not an evil plot to "keep the hosers down". Now on to invasions. Lucky for you we are friendly neighbors. Lucky for us too, but it benefits you more. If you had to budget to maintain an army to keep us out your country would be a far different place than it is today. Look at the history of Poland or any of the old Warsaw Pact to see how much fun it is to live next to a big well armed neighbor who is NOT friendly. Generally military plans are based on ability, not intentions, but in the case of USA v. Canada the idea of warfare between us has been beyond ridiculous since the mid 1800s (49-40 or fight was the last real disagreement IIRC). While you may think yourself original for going on about "cretins in America", I bet I am older than you and also I have spent a lot of time in Europe. They are all HERE IN THE USA because the tax and business structure in Canada did not allow them to follow their dreams as they can here. BTW I think it sucks being the WORLD POLICE. I have a brother headed to Iraq right now. I wish we would get the fvck out of that country and let them settle their own issues. But NO ONE ELSE is willing to step up anywhere.
