And I *still* have to provide my own media? I don't think so. When is the music industry going to get a clue and start puting this stuff out at a reasonable price? I can get an entire DVD chock full of data and content, often for less than the price of a 10-song music CD.
Saying that Linux vendors should lower their price because of product difference is tantamount to saying Ford should lower the price of their vehicles because they do less or different things than a competing vehicle. And while that may very well be true as long as the market will bear the cost then why should anyone be making such a suggestion? It's all supply and demand. If Linux vendors find their demand going down (possibly due to lack of sound card support) they can either supply the added features or lower the price. You don't lower a price simply because your product does less or is different.
As with many politically driven sites they seem to have a few things right but a great many others completely WRONG. They look like a confused CATO Institute
While I appreciate the information greatly I found it extremely difficult reading the graphs as the text was entirely too small and the bars, were proportionally too big. Am I the only one who has trouble reading this stuff?
I always shop at http://www.computergeeks.com although lately I have been burned on a few things which were not their fault as much as it was mine for not checking around. Caveat emptor.

My employer pays me to work on software used in open source operating systems like Linux. It keeps me employed so you can count me as one on the side of "good for the job market". Face it. If it wasn't Linux it would be BSD or something else. There are lots of people who believe that one (Microsoft) size does not fit all. If you want Linux to be crushed start thinking of alternatives.
I have had several bootable Linux CDs that truly give a wealth of information on the status, identity, and health of PCs. They are cheap and can often point you in the right direction when you are having some hardware issues. If I was doing this for a living I would always carry one around with me.
As a suprising side effect of going on the Atkins diet I found that without all the carbs I didn't need the caffiene kick. This was especially noticed in the morning. Before the diet started I would be a total monster before getting my first cup. Now I can take it or leave it any time of the day and no caffiene headache withdrawls either. YMMV

My first computer was a Cosmac Elf. I added on to the kit with color graphics, and a whopping 8k of ram. I had a full ascii keyboard add-on, the cassette interface, and tiny basic. After that I got an Atari 400 that I upgraded to 800 capability and a pair of floppy disk drives. My first serious program was an assembler written in Atari Basic. It hasn't been the same since!

This program is not responding. It may be busy waiting for a response from you, or it may have stopped running.
This happened to me last Christmas when I decided to light the entire driveway and use the PC to switch the lights on and off. Imagine my suprise when a C-130 tried to taxi into my garage!
The people that make Walmart profitable are folks like you and me that shop there. Walmart gives those entering the work force for the first time a place to start. Before we condem Walmart we must take a look at why they are profitable.
I nominate SCO Linux binary-only lisenced code. The only product supposedly on the market that no one has bought, no one knows what's in it, or why they should even purchase it.

Gee whiz. I guess the only programs that can be written in the spirit of UNIX are programs that acutally run exclusively on UNIX. I stand by both my statements. KERMIT is a program and protocol which grew legs and whose author(s) should have stopped the the add-ons infinitum a long time ago. It is huge, overly expensive to license from Columbia, and has outgrown it's pants a long time ago, just like EMACS. I couldn't care less what it runs on. It's still too big and complex for what it's original intent was. Come talk with me when you have negotiated your license from Frank and Columbia EDU to use it on 10,000 units.

Dude! You guys got screwed! Exchanging technical knowledge and time hardly equates to a little black magic and some cracked bones!
Hey, if it's possible to do that maybe we can trim the Millenium Falcons Kessel run record down to well below 3 parsecs!

That was the first thought that popped into my head. Great minds think alike. ;)
I haven't bought a "real" CD in a LONG time. Until prices for music CDs come in line with the prices for DVDs I will continue to boycott.
I doubt you will get much beyond 16mhz. That's pretty much the top end for these guys. Maybe 20-25. Big MAYBE.

I'm not sure how this got moderated to "Funny" when it's true... "Informative" would be a better label.

When I start seeing the "Top 10 x for Slashdot 2003" then I'll believe it. That's what the guys over at TechRepublic, etc are doing.
