Well, whether or not it actually happens, it sure would be nice if Gentoo did start releasing fully-functional live CDs - I'd love to have the equivalent of Knoppix for various architectures. (PPC especially. And please don't reply with links to the horrifically old "Knoppix/PPC" project which can't autodetect its way out of a wet paper sack.)
The more press the better. Maybe even more organizations and companies will switch over now... surely it seems like this will sway a lot of people, now that it's getting such veneration. Hopefully, it will air in the states, too. I would definitely watch it.
How is it when record companies try considerably less Draconian anti-copy systems (the borked CDs from Sony for instance) slashdotters are up in arms: but when Valve comes up with a control system that would make Joe Staling blush you clamber over each other to get stuck up the arse by them?
I hate software licensing as much as anyone on/., but when a company like Valve goes out of their way to offer something in exchange for the authentication hassle - they deserve a fair shake.
Uhm, I'm confused - what exactly is it that Valve is offering "in exchange for the authentication hassle"?
"This news comes on the eve of the FCC ruling on whether federal regulations will preempt local ones."
Gee whiz, I wonder if this government agency will choose to grant themselves more power or give it away.
(Not that I think a different set of rules for every municipality is a great idea, but freedom dies a little bit each time the federal government asserts itself into a new arena. Here come the neo-cons.)
Actually MS did buy it.

Nitpick: it's Bungie, not Bungee.
Secondly, Microsoft DID buy it. Because they bought Bungie. Or more specifically, Alex Seropian and Jason Jones sold Bungie out, and now as a result we have lackluster PC ports of XBox games instead of what Could Have Been.
It seems the Rio Karma hasn't had a feature bump since it's introduction last year. Sure, it's pricing is on par with the 20 GB iPod (and the Karma comes with a dock, featuring an ethernet port, not to mention native support for Ogg Vorbis and FLAC), but I think Rio can do even better. =)
Why are there only 19 people folding@home for slashdot?
In my case it's because their client is buggy. It would launch and quickly proceed to kill off the actual crunching engine. No worries, now that distributed.net is back to running useful projects (like OGR) I can use them.
What's funny is that we may have even infected Mars with our own bacteria when we sent several probes there.
That IS funny! Haaahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahaaaaaaa HAAAAAAHAHAHAhahahahhahahahhaaaaaaaaa

Right... because we all know Linux, *BSD, Plan 9, BeOS, Mac OS X, Unix, et al never have problems.
Has anyone ever told you you're an idiot? Bet it happens all the time.
OMG IT'S LIKE YOU'VE KNOWN ME ALL MY LIFE!
Dumbass.
Postings from these sort of people are easy to detect because their arguments lack substance.
Whereas your mother is easy to detect for precisely the opposite reason: an overabuncance of substance. Because yo momma so fat.
Are not.
God I hate it when sitcom writers forget what their jobs are. Uh, unless they think we're supposed to laugh at that sort of thing.
The time they pulled this with Darlene on Roseanne sticks out in my mind.

Reality, eeg3.
eeg3, reality.
What about mine?

Maybe because what Valve makes is worth it.
I hate software licensing as much as anyone on

My anchor tag was flawless. Slashdot is broken.

Linkified.
Because we all know competition is good and the best technology always wins... right?
Heh. Normally I don't find *nix humor funny (you know, jokes about "mount" and so on), but your sig is an exception.
Well done.
Flamebait?
Uhm, no. Or is pointing out such facts "flamebait" simply because this story has the XBox topic icon tagged onto it?
Insightful / Informative.

Way to feed the 800-lb gorilla, Bungie.
a) Why should Joe Newbie Windowsbuyer be expected to KNOW that he needs to change the permissions on the host file from the install defaults?
I believe the grandparent meant "would it be so difficult for MicroSoft to set the file attribute on the hosts file to read only".
However your other points are valid.
What other games are missing from Mac OS X?
Wouldn't the shorter list be "What games aren't missing from Mac OS X?"
They've got Blizzard, id, and Bungie Studios (kind of) making cross-platform releases a priority... other than that........

Will it make your iPod quit working?
No, iPods do that on their own.
As for your sig...

Audiophiles listen to their sound systems, not music.
Heh, hard to believe I haven't seen that phrase until now. Nice.
Don't worry, there's always the "this comment would be modded down anyway." gambit.
::shoots jizz across keyboard::
I know - and it worked like a charm!
Karma! My sweet, sweet karma! All for Silas! All for Silas!
(Posting logged in, with karma bonus, cuz at Delta it's laid out like that.)
Wow. samzenpus (the submitter) == douchebag.
To samzenpus: You obviously have never actually watched Gilmore Girls, so shut the fuck up.
(I was going to choose my words more gingerly, but unless I managed to make it REALLY FUNNY somehow, this comment would be modded down anyway.)
