The IP reputation of Amazon EC2 was already bad (with many services blocking EC2 pre-emptively) now it's going to get even worse.

In the past malicious amazon ec2 users would at least have to put some effort into learning EC2. Now they can just use the TOR layer instead to use amazon IPs.

Even though they're suspected GPL offenders (opinions differ) I still have to put in my word for mikrotik. These guys know how to build wifi in rural areas with plenty of subscribers, stable hardware and good software at low cost. Even their cheaper products are very well up to the task and can be expanded upon with different wireless-transmitters and antennas. If that is not enough you can always look at their more "enterprise:ish" products. I've only good things to say about them, and we used their products for well over 5 years when we still ran a WISP.

Private internet connection is not dedicated and will never be if customers expects prices to go down. WoW has more users cause they have bigger marketing teams, spell Diablo, Warcraft etc.. It's also the game where all is really about leveling, more leveling, then accumulating the best gear which you never risk losing. It's not a game of minds like EVE is, it's a game of who can spend the most time online to grind in dungeons. As my first post said... Want a challange? Try Eve online. An lcd is a multi-tool, use it for computer screen, video-playback. Some plasma-fans cling on to plasmas broad angle of view.. well, tough luck. New lcd's sport almost 180degree view.

Although not as open about it as NextGenTel.
Telia has a serious marketdominance in the ADSL-field and refuses to let smaller operators in to use the infrastructure without having to pay insane amounts of money.

Peering is also a thing which Telia is abusing to their own ends. If you're not a big provider you can't get a peering to Telia (unless you pay insane amounts of money or know someone high up at Telia-sales).
The way other operators have to go about and do is to buy traffic exchange with operators who are big enough to be able to buy the amount of traffic required from telia to get the low prices and still resell at more humane levels (although still "reselling").

If the operator you're on is trying to get to Telias network without Internetexchange in sweden you'll have to go over international carrier... Which in return results that going from sweden to holland and back will give additional delays.

When big companies can hoard the good peer-points the market for small operators will be dampened unless your small company has a deal with an operator big enough to get tier2 access to the likes of Telia.

Bashing macroers was something I gave as an example. Showing that macroers are often caught if they try it. EVE isnt really safe enough to do large-scaled macroing operations. Someone else said "everybody sells isk" that's wrong.. it's more likely that more buy isk than sell , if you take a look on ebay you'll see maybe 5 to 7 big sellers. These laundry their money by having loads of accounts to do it on. But in reality there arent too many players who just play eve to farm isk. In this case buying isk would be a bigger problem since it's more likely that you'll buy isk to get a little extra headsup in the game. But that also means that the sellers will eventually get caught and banned since the amount of suppliers of ISK are few and easy to recognize. (playervise) First of all , it takes a lot of time to train characters who are good at making the isk. Compare it to other games where gold-farmers can setup a shop easily by macroing skill for a few days. In eve it takes months to be competative at that level of ISK gaining. Thus if you get caught not only do you lose your character and account, but you'll have to start-over. CoH is a different kind of game, it's really got no ways to lose out a lot. WoW and games where you face no risks by playing is no game that attract me. Anyone can become a twink lvl 60 player in 9 days in those games. From my point of view EVE has attracted a very mature and dedicated playerbase.

Sorry but the idea of selling in-game stuff for RL cash is just wrong.
At least to me. It takes away a part of the game where you just play to have fun.

Take a look at Everquest. Go with a party and you wont get the people who think "Wow, I'm going out to have fun with my friends bashing a couple of mean nasties". No you'll get the people who think "I wonder how much dollar I can sell this rare item for..."

It's just taken a turn for greed in games where they encourage or allow people to sell stuff for RL money.

That's why I love EVE-Online so much, not only do CCP (company who runs the game) prohibit ISK (the ingame currency) selling, but they crack down hard on those who sell. But I can actually be evil in this game and loot pillage and plunder, meaning if I find a macro-player I'll just take him down myself...

It's an ultra-capitalistic in-game world where there are no entirely safe-zones. Macro isk-farmers live a dangerous life since "pirates" (a class of players who live outside the in-game law to plunder very much like 17th century pirates) love to go after players who arent watching their client just sitting there macroing away.

There're lots of uses for long-range WiFi in municipal areas which lack DSL and other broadband alternatives. Where WiFi ISP's can start offering cheaper access to their customers when they dont need to put hotspots as close anymore.

I'm currently working at such ISP, where we are currently using uplinks to local hotspots over ~20km on the 2,4 and 5ghz spectrum. Achieving a high bandwidth over these long ranges has always been a problem with reasonably priced antennas and techniques. Though, I've yet to test out these new antennas and see if they are better than the antennas we are already using, free sight vs non-free sight between nodes etc.
1-2km or more to our hotspots from a customer isnt uncommon, it's relatively easy to guarantee 10mbit access aswell.
