I'm not really a Disney guy, but it seems like Disney hasn't done much with Mickey Mouse, Goofy, etc. in a loooong time. Imagine Pixar doing a new Mickey movie. Cool.
The price of AMD stock has been going waaaay up in the last month or two. According to yahoo finance, they've got a P/E of somewhere around 500 (compared to google's P/E of about 100). I can't believe there's that much potential for increased profits to justify AMD stock being ~ $35/share...
Seems like a decent list, but I think I would have put The Shield in there.
However, take a look at their top music picks for 2005. Kanye West? You've GOT to be kidding me... but then again, I'm hard pressed to come up with 10 bands from 2005 that I'd vote for... sad.
Hopefully, more people/companies will start using SPF (spf.pobox.com). I believe this would help prevent this kind of attack. It's pretty easy to start publishing SPF records...
Right, I'm sure their software development experience would help them run an efficient and profitable commodities business. NOT! Getting into gold, which is currently at a 23 year high (I believe) would be about as smart as my local bread manufacturing company starting up a dot com at the height of the internet bubble.
I do agree with you about the large US deficit though.
I met my wife on match as well. At times, it can be very frustrating - you see people you think you'd be a natural match for, and write them a nice note introducing yourself. And get no reply. It took me about 18 months to meet my wife (and she wrote to me first!). I think it's a great way to meet people, see if there's mutual interest, get to know them a bit via e-mail/phone first, etc, etc. I don't believe I ever got any bogus profiles/emails.
(*disclaimer* - I now own stock in match.com)
"In order for Cingular to do good, it's going to want to utilize everything that it can."
"Now what they would like to do is use my pipes free, but I ain't going to let them do that because we have spent this capital and we have to have a return on it."
I think Mr. Whitacre needs to improve his grammar. However, judging by some of his comments from the article, poor grammar may be the least of his problems.
Sheesh, how'd this guy get to be CEO of a publicly traded company?
Oracle is a complete nightmare to administer. They have a three day (I believe) class just to learn how to back the friggin thing up! Compare this to Sybase and MSSQL, where you just do a "dump database..." "load database...". Sure, Oracle has a pile of esoteric features, but most people only use the basics.
If gas prices get much higher, they won't have to use legislation to force the auto makers to design and build more fuel efficient cars - economics will do it. I'm already seeing a lot of Toyoto Prius'es in my area, and I've read that Ford's SUV sales are starting to decline. If electric prices and home heating oil goes up another couple of dollars, solar power will look a lot more reasonable too.
Yeah, they're actually getting worse, IMHO. Their disk mirroring functionality, which worked well in version 6, 7, and 8 seems to be seriously broken in solaris 9. Try doing a metadevadm -u. It doesn't work. To fix a broken mirror, you now have to metaraplace, wait for it to resync, metadetach, metaclear, metainit, and resync again. You used to be able to just to a single resync/metareplace, but the "state" remains "unavailable" even after the resync completes.
I vaguely recall reading an article about this in Wired magazine a few months ago. One of the better points (I thought) was that an "intelligent" design wouldn't have your air supply and your food supply entering through the same opening (obvious choking hazzard), joints that are prone to wear out and/or get arthris, prone to back problems, etc, etc. Not a very intelligent design.
Wouldn't Apple + Intel force Microsoft to team up with AMD?
Interesting insight on the Sun's purchase of Storagetek.
Not sure about your comment that "Sun customers are either moving to linux. We're still buying plenty of Sun stuff. We're still having a tough time with too many versions of linux around here, some of which won't run on various models of hardware (we use HP PC's).
I dunno. I love my ipod, but it's been in the shop 3 times now. According to the last tech who I talked to (and a few end users who I've met), a LOT of people are having hardware problems with their iPods. I've also heard some friends complaining that their powerbooks have had hardware problems.
I'm beginning to suspect that, while their software is really good, their hardware is low-quality stuff made overseas...
As I understand it, Al Gore actually WAS responsible for government grant money, which was used to fund early research that led to the creation of the internet. He never claimed that he "invented" the internet. I'm pretty sure his actual words were twisted by Republican spinsters...
Wow, files can be in more than one folder. Kind of like, uh, symbolic links? And now I don't have to defrag. Great. I hate all that time I have to spend defragging my linux and solaris disks. Oh, wait...
I'm wondering why they developed this instead of just leveraging/adopting/inproving spf, domainkeys, or some other DNS-based soution that's already out there? (yes, I see that they plan to add SPF support eventually). Seems pretty limited in it's current form.
First off, Kudos to all those involved in OO2 development.
I had a quick look at the new features and it's not clear to me what the new "hyperlink()" feature does. I looked at the spec link, but can't figure out what program to use to open the.sxw file.
What I'd like is something similar to Excel's "data->import external data->import data" preconfigured stock quotes feature (preferably with finance.yahoo.com data). I know there's a way to do this in the current version of OO, but it looked quite a bit more complicated than the excel version.
In other news, use of carrier pigeons by college students is down 100%. Use of quill pens has also dropped dramatically. The sky is blue.
Why is it news that land lines are steadily moving towards extinction?

I think the number is closer to 50 different songs per day, at least for the radion stations in my area (which I've given up listening to, BTW).

52 movies in 90 days?!? You've GOT to get out more ...

If I had any points, I'd mod you up. Man, that movie had craptacular acting. Can't wait for Serenity.

On the positive side of things, a lot of companies (ebay, paypal, citibank, amazon, etc, etc) are now publishing spf records to help detect forgeries.

In fact it looks like ibm.com isn't even publishing an spf record?!?!
