  1. My opinion on the matter on Star Trek: Enterprise in Danger of Being Cancelled · · Score: 1

Star Trek has had a good run. If you take a look at its history:

Star Trek (Original) - Good. Filled with adventure and hot Kirk on Alien action.

Star Trek TNG - Also good. Good plots and characters with a modern twist, except without the hot(?) Picard on Alien action.

Star Trek DS9 - Crap. I can summarize it in one sentense. "Lets just sit on this station and banter about Ferrengis".

Star Trek Voyager - Actually good, but could have been better. Unlike DS9, they actually had an objective. Unfortunately, the producers took one plot that -could- have been stretched over 4 episodes and condensed it into one.

Star Trek Enterprise - Dead from day one. I've found it has less of a fan base than any other trek, has yet to be put on in the afternoon (at least in Canada), and is just plain stupid.

Perhaps Star Trek should go out now with whatever dignity it has left in its name.

People with ADD/ADHD often have vivid and interesting thoughts, and explosive energy. Perhaps instead of heffing her up on goofballs and trying to control those thoughts and energy, give her outputs for her thoughts and energy. Consider getting her:

-A pad of paper (with a durable stainless cover and pen(cil) holder) to write out-of-nowhere ideas down, or just to draw/scribble in.

-A painting eisel, pottery wheel, or something of the likes. Artistry is an excellent output, and some kickass local artworks I've seen have been created by people with ADD/ADHD.

-Consider (Only if you have the money, and feel like taking a risk) A musical instrument. Not like the drums, but more along the lines of a clarinet or trumpet, something that takes a little effort and concentration to learn, but it would require either: A really patient instructor, or: Self-Instruction.

  13. The closed-mindedness of faculty (my experience) on Application-Centricity in Our Schools? · · Score: 1

I have found that faculty are generally closed minded about Open-Source software. They feel more secure if its in a box and has a phone number to call if something goes wrong.

    Two Examples:

    1) When I was in Grade 9, I tried to convince the Computer Administrator to shift the server over to Linux. Even after countless talks and demos, he still insisted on Windows. Screw him. I left that school the next year.

    2) Next School. This one actually uses some OS software, but they are extremely selective. I've tried to convince them to use some alternatives to -certain- software products, but so far they've kept their ears shut.

Rather fortunately, they've (sort of) bribed me to keep my mouth shut, with an old P100 system and another old P233 system. Score.

There are many international organizations out there that are dedicated to bringing telecommunications, computers, and internet access to developing countries (I belive there is one, if not many, headed by the UN). Perhaps a little googling would get some results.

There are many computer recycling programs in north america as well. Some are run by major computer companies themselves. Dell for example, will take your old computer when you buy a new one from them. I'm sure if you called them and arranged some meetings, they would consider giving you systems from their recycling efforts.

If all else fails, get them by other conventional means. Do a "Computer Drive". Setup ads in the local paper, have people set computers outside (in a box) on a certain date, and collect them with volunteers.
