    I would bet that any other taper friendly band would not care about p2p or whatever, because, again, these bands work for a living, and they know they will make money when they are working.

    Unfortunately, one example to the contrary is the Allman Brothers. They do permit taping and trading, but insist that that trading take place the old fashioned way - one-to-one snail mail trades.

    I think it's probably a result of a combination of the fallout of the napster fervor and a misunderstanding of the online legal trading commuity.

    Quite simply, your vote is based on your evaluation of the situation. Are you willing to accept another 4 years of the current administration in order to make a statement for your third party candidate? If so, then you should vote for your third party candidate.

    If not, then consider placing your third party vote another time. This may not be the best time to make a statement.

    It's funny, the internet is such a "big place", but I keep running in to the same people everywhere. Once again, I run in to Doug (who I've never actually met, but "hi" anyway from a fellow Austinite.

    More of the `the lights went out! I'll bet I'm about to be attacked!' brilliance. Joy.

    I'm actually enjoying Doom 3, but I would have hated it if I didn't download the ducttape mod.

    Agreed. More than once I cracked my head on the wall trying to dodge something that startled me in SS2. And the creepy audio logs.... wow.

    A lack of fairness or objectivity does not necessarily invalidate Krugman's points. You just have a pretty good idea before reading him which direction his column is going.

    Bias and predisposition aside, Krugman is often quite right about the economic fallacies of this administration.

    Let me guess... You are American, right? I know it because are consulting THE CORPORATION instead of THE LAW to know what does and what does not void your warranty. Stupid at best, insulting to the rest of the world at worst.

    No need to be an asshole about it (and doubly lame hiding behind AC while doing it). I'm just reporting what I was told. If you have any evidence to the contrary (site the wording in the LAW that contradicts what I was told), then by all means, post it. If not, go fuck yourself.

    I would like to point out not a single one of the "it will void your warranty" people relay an account of being denied warranty service on an Apple computer. It's all just a bunch of hypothetical neck-talk.

    You're right. Before buying my Powerbook, I asked one of the salesdroids at the local Apple store if replacing the hard drive on my own would void the warranty. He emphasized the point that I could take it completely apart and it would not void the warranty. However, if I damaged it in the process of doing my own work, the warranty would not cover repairs.

    To be honest, I've given up all hope on a good hockey sim (and to a lesser degree, sports sims in general). The EA franchise has convinced me (right or wrong) that the goal of these games is not to provide a realistic simulation, but to provide a good arcade experience chock full of eye candy.

    The crashing issue that you mention even misses this target. And I, for one, don't remember anybody named R. Defenseman playing for Calgary in the late 1980's... Heh.

    Guess I'll stick with freecell for now.

    Then again, I'm a hockey purist and am unlikely to be impressed by much (although I thought Wayne Gretzky 2 by Bethesda was most excellent, but would make for lousy TV broadcast).

    Yes, I'm angry and bitter that I won't plant myself in front of the tube for a season's worth of Flyers games. My wife has a greatly different view on the lockout.

    If the "wasted vote" argument ever held any water, it doesn't any more. The two major parties have moved toward a weird, non-existent "center" for the last 50 years, to the point where it's difficult to tell them apart.

    This is where he completely lost me. Despite the flawed list of "similarities" that he presents, it's more than obvious to anyone who even casually follows current events that the two major parties have quite different views as to the direction this country should be headed in.

    Badnarik loses all credibility with me when he throws this tired line out there, which is clearly just a lame attempt to defeat the "wasted vote" scenario.

    OK, you got me. I don't know what it was. But I'd bet it was something more along the lines of "Vote Kerry" than "Suck my big fat cock".

    Seriously, what do YOU think it was? Obviously it was a political statement. I don't see how the basis of his arrest hinges on what he was writing, unless the topic of his writing annoyed somebody "higher up".

    We don't know why he was picked up, what he was writing, what the officers said to thier superiors. But I guess it is easier to make our own story.

    If you'd RTFA, you'd know that he was arrested while doing a demonstration for MSNBC. I'd bet a few TV cameras that picked up what he was writing.

    This was on jerkoff that got busted for vandalism.

    Maybe I should clarify myself, in case you're having trouble reading between the lines. If he was begin busted for vandalism, why didn't they just say so?

    I actually agree that what he's doing is defacing property, but the fact that the arresting sergeant had to call a superior to find out whether or not to arrest him, and even then couldn't tell him why he was being arrested is fishy.

    Oh, and of course I don't think this one arrest is going to silence dissent. Don't be stupid.

    According to TFA:
    Kinberg cooperated fully with the officers as he was being handcuffed, only asking, "can I ask what I'm being arrested for?" to which no one provided an answer. As of 11:00 PM Saturday evening, he was still in custody without being charged with anything.

    I think it's safe to say that if being inconvenient or embarassing to Republicans during the Convention was a crime, that's what his charge would have been. As it is, they'll just have to hold him for a while.

    Shameful the level some officials will stoop to silence dissent.

    What about "The Bad Lieutenant"

    Bad Lieutenant was the one I was thinking of, too. Good flick, and in my opinion, it earned it's NC-17 rating. I thought Harvey Keitel did an amazing job in it, but I like most of his movies anyway.

    Kids was another NC-17 film that wasn't completely bad.

    My guess would be that most "pro" users are behind a corporate firewall and have competent sysadmins looking after them.

    Most of the security problems I'd wager come from home users who are operating without a clue.

    Man, I was just thinking the same thing. I was also nine at the time, and remember thinking "this is the dumbest fucking thing I've ever wasted two hours watching", although not quite in those words.

    Seriously though, it does take a massive feat of dumbness to make such an impression on a nine-year-old. Kudos to Lucas for that, I suppose.

    I'd think it'd be easier to hack it to do hourly rsyncs or snapshots between the two drives. For my applications, that'd be sufficient.

    If you want ssh, telnet and all the other toys, plug a real linux box into your network !

    The reason(s) I would prefer this over another linux box are that this is quieter (no fans/internal drives) and cooler. That's a big plus for me.
