What's the significance of the person being a "Pakistani"? What point are you trying to make, that a Pakistani screwed you? It's kind of revealing
The point I think you are making is the electronic commerce is not always as flawless it we would like it to be, Confusion exists, and mistakes are made.
Knowing how to deal with errors effectively is now becoming a economic skill (i.e. using the credit card company's services for resolution) much as not spending beyond your budget has been in the past, A kind of an "economic Darwinism" if you like.
I'm not sure what your comment brings to the discussion.
I use my current xbox for games, movies and music all the time.
I think it will be intresting when It can be hooked up to the "Microsoft Live" services. I have been beta testing the "Live" products and they look pretty good.
Many people I know would be intrested in a one-stop shop, play your moives, listen to some music, play a few games, check your email, make a blog/website. All with a small foot print box that sits on you rec room/living room shelf.
Over the long haul, I think It will be a winner with many people. For more technicaly oriented people it will be a game console, that's it. but in the grand scheme of things, I don't think they are the products target.
I think I'll wait a while before I buy one, maybe the price will come down.
Today "Subscriptions" are the future, not plastics
I think most of the problems come from the effort for backwards compatablity. They have such a large base of older apps (written when security was not an issue) that they try to maintain for the user, that it hoses the security model needed today.
I think if a user installed a fresh OS with limited user rights, then installed their five to eight year old application, and it did not work. There would be lots of pissing and moaning.
I have setup many XP's with limited access and it works OK until someone installs some older Windows 95/98 type program or some poorly written VB program. For those types of programs the registery is a central place to hold settings. That's it, security was and is not the issue.
Maybe they should take the Apple approch and just forget about the older applications people have and move on to the newer stratagies. Want your old app to run?, keep your old machine.
As for Games That's what (IMHO) game consoles are for.
Maybe the era of the all around machine is over, we will have machines for Entertainment, another for Business etc. etc.
Isn't it the application developer who should create a program that will run securly in a non-privaliged account?.
I've found that most older (any many new ones) require full and/or exculsive access to the files system as well as the windows registery in order install and/or operate correctly. This seems to indicate that many programs have not be designed with secuirty as a goal, but more as a single user non-network attached single use program.
For MS perhaps the goal of backwards compatibility is the real culprit.
just saying...
There is no technical solution to a management problem.
The Internet was designed to trust the kindness of strangers. If it is to be consdered a mission-critical system for which compromise is a serious problem, it must evolve and will necessarily become more secure... Train tracks, especially unprotected tracks in rual contryside, are easy to sabotage, and with grimmer results than network failure, but such incidents are rare.
My PC with out the OS would not have worked as well, the cost of the OS was minimal in the overall price, and it's function allows me to complete the tasks I need to do, and use what I want to, which is the idea after all.
A car without tires is also cheaper.
Then use it, but why should everyone else, isn't that the same thing?
I mean why use XP and then complain becuase they include thier own home grown applications.
I know, you have to because the dark side owns the park, and you want to play but not with all their toys, just a few, even though the entrance fee is the same.
Well I'm not a technition, or power user , or anything like that. I use XP works fine, I have to be somewhat diligent but I am in other parts of my life as well. I use Mac's same goes there as well (maybe a little less) but I'm happy that each includes a way to view and listen with little effort and has been planned to work with the OS.
Move on, move on. Keep moving, nothing to see here.
I think they (MS) use SAP in house for all there ERP and CRM.
As they are now dependent on SAP Maybe being dependent on an outside company gives them the hebe jebes. kind of kike the US with mideast oil countries.

I got ride of my television about eight years ago, don't miss it at all. I found it all to be a big bunch of s**t any way.
I still now what's going on, I have a lot more things to do then watch TV, (on my schedule or their's, it don't matter)
I think if every one just stopped watching, things would change quickly. The "model" is already a pain in the arse.
Bah.. humbug, who needs it. Free your self and the rest will follow.
With massive WARFARE systems now in place in many countries, the dumbest people can now SPIN out of control, and you're paying for it.
Maybe if we convince the gov that it will be a rolling Mini-Mall they coudl then confiscate the land needed.

Another week, another Firefox vulnerability (#1), another Internet Explorer vulnerability (#2), and another iTunes vulnerability (#3).
For the IE Browser: Tools -> Manage Add-ons -> Flash Object -> Disable

I read H.G.Wells "The Island of Dr. Moreau" a while back. Many of the same moral issues even though it was written so long ago.
