The CD helps, but it's only updated from the first XP problem until February.... iif anything diabolical comes out after then, you're screwed.
I think there is a way to combine all the updates & hotfixes from an box that already has Xp installed, but I have yet to need to do that yet.
With the simplistic file paths, and with a pretty decent amount of packages already, this is the distro that I might share with my friends. Especially since it's a Live CD.
After I get home from work, I'll download it & give it a spin, that's for sure.
Even if some might consider this a "dumbed down distro", this idea makes me thing that it could be one for tha masses.
Man... you nailed most of my childhood memories with that post.
I can still recall the stench of green bud imbedded in the berber carpetted walls.
The only thing I have to do once I buy this stick is to tack up some rugs to the walls and bring out the bong......
As I sit at work browsing/., & listening to one of the biggest Microsoft ass-kissers, Kim Kimando.
Whenever someone complains about pop-ups, she always refers them to the Google tool bar.
"Use Mozilla" isn't an option for people that don't know about it.
It's people like Kim Kimando that make "optional foo programs" hard to break through to the masses.
Until "high profile computer users" like Komando (whom has A TON of listenership) actually start talking about issues like this, don't expect nothing to happen.
Let's say that in Asia that Windows XP goes for $100.00. Do you think that people in Asia that have pirated Windows would pay $90.00, reguardless if Microsoft found out about it? I highly doubt it.
This is a good thing that Microsoft is covering their behinds in areas that they know probably won't buy a legit version of Windows.
From what I gather from this article, is that the author is doing a "newbie" install.
Name one "newbie" (/. readers don't count) that has sucessfully installed Debian or Slack.

You're forgetting that Internet Explorer is tied into Explorer, which is "needed" in order for Windows to operate properly.
If that was to happen, then Microsoft would end up in some deep poo. Or at least eating crow.
"My law would look like this:
If you get spyware on your computer, you are no longer allowed to use a computer."
You're preaching to the congregation.
Give them a break. At least it's not a dupe.
"Maybe it's just me, but I tend to hover the mouse over links before I actually click on them for this exact reason."
You must be using Internet Explorer.
What I ment by my post was that this is a great idea to bring in Joe Sixpack into the Linux world.
They don't know what "/usr/local/bin" is for, and they probably don't care to know.
What they DO KNOW is "C:\Program Files\foo"
That's probably one of the reasons why there is a high turnover rate of people going back to Windows from *Nix.
If I can help someone get away from Windows and turned onto Linux, I've done a good deed.
I've tried to bring them over with Knoppix, but one of the problems is that they can't grasp the file system.
This distro might just help out in my crusade.

Time will tell.

For those that can't get enough of William Hung.

You forgot to add *BSD to your list. :-)
This is good news, but let's see how long things like this will last.
I personally think she discovered it while her computer was infected with the Irish Virus
"....overly litigious asshole?" I thought it was Litigous Bastards
I'll create one that is inbetween the 2, and call it the SmegWay.

I heared up in Redmond, that they spend 80% of thir time working on a new version of Windows, and it only 20%...........
